"It's not open yet, but once it opens, the whole house will smell wonderful."
"Do you know what lilies mean?" Varesa straightened up and asked slowly, a hint of a smile in her eyes.
Bai You paused, knowing full well what was going on.
But hearing those words from the other person made her lose face, and she stiffened her neck:
"It's just pretty, that's all. Don't overthink it."
"I didn't say anything."
Varesa drew out her words, laughing even more heartily, and reached out to ruffle her hair.
"If our Little Bai You says it looks good, then it looks good."
Bai You's ears burned from her laughter, but she ignored her and turned to rummage through her spatial storage.
He pulled out several rolls of wallpaper, pale pink with tiny white flowers printed on them. When he unfolded them, they softened the overall ambiance of the room.
"What is this?" Varesa raised an eyebrow.
"Wallpaper, huh?" Bai You handed over one of the rolls, quite matter-of-factly.
"Your wall looks so cold, this will make it look warmer."
"I specifically chose pink, isn't it pretty?"
Varesa took it and looked at it, then looked up and surveyed the small cubicle.
She had nailed a wooden board around the inside wall for moisture protection; the board surface was flat and just right for attaching the board.
She had originally intended to say, "Wallpapering a cave? What an idea!" but seeing Bai You's excited expression, the words that came out were:
"Okay, Tieba. I'll do the climbing, you help me."
"Mmm."
The two got right to work. Varesa moved a wooden stump and stepped on it to align the top and smooth the wallpaper, while Bai You handed her the test paper and peeled off the adhesive backing from below.
When she first put the picture on the wall, she had no experience and pasted it a little crooked, with wrinkles at the edges. Bai You stood on tiptoe and reached out to get it, but she couldn't get it to be flat no matter what she did.
"Don't move, I'll do it." Varesa got off the wooden stump and walked behind her.
The next moment, Bai You was enveloped in a warm shadow.
Varesa leaned down from behind her, placed her hands on the back of Voyanisa's hands that were holding the wallpaper, and guided her hands to push the crease outwards and smooth it out little by little.
Their hands were clasped together, their cheeks so close that Bai You could even feel the other person's warm breath on her ear.
She froze instantly, and the bridge of her nose began to feel faintly hot again.
"Don't let your hands shake." Varesa's voice was low and tinged with laughter, right next to my ear.
"I... I wasn't shaking," Bai You stubbornly insisted, but her voice wavered.
"Why is your wallpaper trembling even though it's not shaking?"
Bai You looked down and saw that her hand, which was supporting her against the wall, was indeed trembling slightly.
She tried to take a half step back, but her foot slipped and she missed the edge of the wooden block. She swayed and cried out, about to fall backward.
Varesa reacted swiftly, one hand still pressed against the wall, the other quickly wrapping around her waist.
With a quick pull, he scooped the person into his arms.
"I told you to be careful." She looked down at the still-shaken person in her arms, her voice laced with barely concealed laughter.
"This isn't how you offer yourself up."
"Who threw themselves at me!" Bai You flushed red, but her hands remained firmly gripping her collar.
"Yes, yes, this wooden stump is unstable!"
"Okay, okay, it's the stump's fault." Varesa went along with her, not exposing her, and just kept hugging her.
With my free hand, I smoothed out the last bit of the edge. "Look, it's smooth now."
Bai You looked up and saw the pink wallpaper neatly laid out on the wooden wall panel, with tiny white flowers arranged one next to another.
The originally monotonous wall suddenly became gentle.
Bai You's eyes lit up. "So beautiful! Quick, paste the rest on too!"
With the experience gained from the first one, the rest went smoothly.
The two men, one standing on high and the other below, would occasionally align the seams together.
Bai You's ears still get hot, but she's no longer as stiff as she was the first time, and she occasionally banters with Varesa.
Once all the walls that could be covered were covered, the entire small room was completely transformed—soft pink all around, complementing the budding lily on the stone table, creating an indescribably warm atmosphere.
"Keep going," Bai You, full of energy.
She laid out the remaining items one by one. The wind chime made of tiny seashells was hung on the rock at the entrance of the cubicle, and it would tinkle softly when a breeze passed through.
A soft, round blanket was laid on the floor beside the bed, and a cotton pad was added to each of the two wooden stools.
On one corner of the stone table were some small items that Varesa had bought.
Varesa wasn't idle either; she sewed a tablecloth out of soft cloth and laid it on the stone table.
The two of them busied themselves for several hours, and the once dusty and deserted cubicle was transformed.
It's warm and bright now, it really does look like a "bedroom".
"Alright." Bai You clapped her hands, stepped back to the doorway behind the curtain, put her hands on her hips, and looked inside with a smug look on her face.
How about it?
Varesa didn't answer immediately. She stood behind Bai You, looking at the small room that the two of them had gradually filled in and covered with pink.
A part of her heart softened completely. She didn't say anything, but gently wrapped her arms around Bai You from behind, resting her chin on her small shoulder.
"It's so good." Her voice was very soft, "So good I can hardly believe it, this is my cave."
"It's ours," Bai You corrected her, leaning back into her arms, "Our little nest."
"Yes, ours."
The two stood at the door for a while before going in together and lying down side by side on the newly made bed.
The kitten's blanket was fluffy and soft; it sank into it a little bit every time it rolled over.
Above, the walls are covered with pink floral patterns, lilies on the stone table are quietly budding, and the wind chimes by the door occasionally chime.
The space isn't big; it's just right for two people to lie down, and if you move even slightly, your arms and legs will touch.
Bai You turned to the side, facing Varesa.
Varesa turned to the side, placing one hand under her neck and pulling her with the other.
"Are you tired?" Varesa asked, gently brushing aside the stray hairs on her forehead with her fingertips.
"Not tired." Bai You moved closer to her until their foreheads almost touched.
"I'm just happy. Look, we renovated the house ourselves."
"Hmm." Varesa looked at the pair of bright, sparkling eyes so close to her, and at Bai You's cute, innocent face.
I couldn't resist, so I bent down and gently touched her forehead.
Bai You held her breath, her eyelashes trembling, but she didn't flinch.
"Silly look." Varesa chuckled softly, pulling her close to her.
"Take a break, you just finished, don't tire yourself out again. We haven't cleaned up the big seashell area outside yet, we'll go there when we've calmed down."
"Okay." Bai You responded quietly, snuggling obediently into her arms.
Bai You had her eyes closed, but the corners of her mouth remained turned up.
She thought that once this lily blooms, this pink little house will truly have everything it needs.
I'll update again during the day, goodnight! ♡=•ㅅ<=)
