He had led a group of Egyptian natives armed with spears and shields to defeat alien creatures whose biotechnology was unimaginably more advanced than Earth's.
He was the sort of "ordinary person" who punched mammoths and kicked Sabretooths.
He was practically a human-shaped Terrifying Upright Ape, capable of pinning alien creatures to the ground and rubbing them into the dirt with both hands.
Later, Apocalypse, who called himself the Progenitor of Mutants, had once been Imhotep's student and fought alongside him.
Back then, Apocalypse had hacked at alien insectoids while cheering his teacher on, utterly lacking the aura of a future powerhouse.
