Background / History
Early Life and Rivalry with Tang Chen
Born into Spirit Hall’s Qian Clan, Qian Daoliu grew up believing that his duty was to protect both Spirit Hall and the Angel God. The Elder Hall taught him that talent without strength meant little, so he devoted himself to cultivation despite his extraordinary innate advantages. He eventually left Spirit Hall to seek the pressure of combat and dangerous situations, becoming undefeated among his contemporaries 4.
Comparisons with Tang Chen prompted him to challenge the Clear Sky Sect heir. Tang Chen defeated him, giving Qian Daoliu the first loss of his life against someone his own age. After initially struggling to accept the result, he turned it into motivation. Their repeated contests developed into a lifelong friendship and rivalry, although Qian Daoliu regretted never surpassing him 5.
Spirit Hall’s Rise
After opponents capable of challenging him became scarce, Qian Daoliu returned to Spirit Hall and gained access to its inner institutions and divine inheritance. Receiving only the Angel Eight Trials initially disappointed him more deeply than his defeat by Tang Chen, but he accepted the responsibility of waiting for a descendant qualified to undertake the Nine Trials 5 6.
He married and had a son, Qian Xunji, but admitted that Spirit Hall’s needs left him little time to discipline the boy. As adjudication elder, he eliminated threats to the organization and earned the hostile reputation of Spirit Hall’s “number one executioner.” After Qian Xunji became Pope, father and son led Spirit Hall to a position above the two empires and the Clear Sky Sect 7.
Qian Daoliu and Tang Chen eventually retired from public life. Their long absence, together with the passing of older Soul Masters, left many younger people unaware of the Two Peaks’ existence 7.
Sea God Island and Bo Saixi
Following Spirit Hall’s disastrous expedition against Sea God Island, Qian Daoliu and Tang Chen traveled there to investigate; Qian Daoliu had not participated in the failed invasion. Reports of the island’s assessments led him to suspect a divine inheritance, and he sensed the Sea God’s power upon approaching it 9 10 23.
The three Peerless Douluo fought for three days and nights. Bo Saixi defeated both visitors in turn with the sea’s support. During their subsequent stay, both men courted her; by then, their wives had already died 24.
Bo Saixi declared that she would accept whoever reached level 100. Qian Daoliu understood this as an indirect rejection of him and an expression of interest in Tang Chen, since divine representatives such as himself could not follow the same path to godhood. He withdrew, while Tang Chen left determined not to return until he became a god 10 24.
Although jealous of their relationship, Qian Daoliu eventually wished Tang Chen success. After a later duel on a mountain cliff, he also promised that Spirit Hall members below Tang Chen’s level would not enter the peak until he defeated him 10.
Duel with Chen Jianjun
Chen Jianjun, a level 97 Seven Kill Sword wielder whose father had also fallen to Qian Daoliu, challenged him at Giant Sword Mountain. Qian Daoliu initially suppressed his Soul Power to approximately level 97, recognizing that using his full strength immediately would turn the contest into a slaughter 11.
At Chen Jianjun’s insistence, he released his Peerless Douluo power and blocked all nine of his opponent’s final attacks. His Angel Soul Power inflicted internal injuries that he believed no contemporary healer could remedy. Chen Jianjun subsequently died, but his son Chen Xin remembered him as fulfilled by having challenged the mortal world’s highest peak 8 11.
Qian Xunji’s Death and Bibi Dong’s Succession
Qian Daoliu did not oppose Qian Xunji’s pursuit of the transformed hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast accompanying Tang Hao. He considered obtaining her Soul Ring and Soul Bone beneficial to Spirit Hall, regardless of Tang Hao’s descent from Tang Chen 13.
When Qian Xunji died after returning wounded from the expedition, Qian Daoliu suspected Bibi Dong. He chose not to pursue the truth because the Qian Family had wronged her first and because Qian Renxue had already lost her father. Out of guilt, he helped Bibi Dong become Pope 13.
Appearance
- Elderly features: Described with an aged face and eyes marked by long experience 16.
- Six angelic wings: His Martial Soul manifests six snowy-white wings associated with a golden sacred glow 20.
- Angel manifestation: Fully releasing his Martial Soul produces a Six-Winged Angel phantom with golden eyes 20.
- Developing transformation: During Holy Light fusion, the golden glow recedes and flowing runes appear along his feather shafts 20.
Personality
Qian Daoliu is disciplined, competitive, and capable of acknowledging another person’s superiority. Tang Chen’s first victory wounded his pride, but he soon recognized the rivalry as essential to his development. His tenth-place ranking similarly rekindled his desire to fight rather than provoking rejection of the result, although he mistakenly assumed that everyone above him must also be a Peerless Douluo 3 4 5.
His professed commitment to justice coexists with ruthless loyalty to Spirit Hall. He viewed eliminating potential threats as part of his duty and supported obtaining a transformed Soul Beast’s resources for the organization. His response to Qian Xunji’s death, however, was shaped by guilt and concern for his granddaughter rather than retribution 4 7 11 13.
He is deeply indulgent toward Qian Renxue. After her Nation-Stealing Plan was exposed, her safety mattered more to him than its success. The prospect of sacrificing himself for her divine inheritance filled him with happiness rather than fear 16 21.
His faith is strong but not immutable. The Heart of Holy Light confronts him with light independent of divine judgment, prompting him to question a lifetime of prayers, sacrifices, and actions performed in the Angel God’s name. He ultimately chooses to accept the unfamiliar power and continue advancing 20.
Abilities & Skills
Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul
The Qian Clan’s inherited divine Martial Soul provides exceptional cultivation aptitude and power against evil Martial Souls 4.
- Awakens with level 20 Innate Soul Power 4.
- Supports his reputation for “invincibility in the sky,” attributed to divine protection 10.
- Manifests six wings, golden light, and an angelic phantom 20.
- His divine-assessment rewards raised his Soul Ring configuration to eight black rings and one red ring 24.
Peerless Douluo Power
At level 99, Qian Daoliu stands at the acknowledged mortal pinnacle of his era 3 7.
- Can suppress his Soul Power to fight at a lower level 11.
- Has achieved unity with his Martial Soul 11.
- Blocked Chen Jianjun’s Nine Kills and inflicted devastating internal injuries through Angel Soul Power 11.
- His dominance is not universal: Bo Saixi defeated him with the sea’s support, while the narration states that she would lose to him on the continent without that support 9 24.
Swordsmanship
Despite possessing an angelic Martial Soul rather than a sword Martial Soul, Qian Daoliu is an accomplished swordsman 11.
- Traveled under an assumed name and became known as the “Sword Immortal” 11.
- Later used the name “Angel Sword” while eliminating threats to Spirit Hall 11.
- Recalls wielding a “Sword of Judgment” in the Angel God’s name 20.
Divine Guardianship
His Angel Eight Trials established him as the Angel God’s mortal guardian, not her successor 6.
- Can recognize divine power and identify the characteristics of divine assessments 9 10.
- Is responsible for awaiting and assisting an inheritor qualified for the Angel Nine Trials 6.
- Ordinarily must use his body as a catalyst and his energy as a bridge to open the gateway to the Angel Temple during the inheritor’s Ninth Trial, costing his life 16.
- The Heart of Holy Light offers a substitute for that sacrifice 18.
Equipment / Items
- Heart of Holy Light — A fist-sized, regular octahedral crystal of pure Holy Light essence originating from Naaru, awarded for his ranking. Its runes convey light, purification, acceptance, hope, and new life. It promises to transform his Angel Martial Soul from a divine gift into “the source of light itself” and can replace his sacrifice in the Angel’s Ninth Trial. Fusion is underway, not confirmed complete 18 19 20.
Relationships
- Qian Renxue — Granddaughter and intended Angel God inheritor. He cherishes her, supports her despite her stubbornness, and willingly accepts the sacrifice required for her ascension before receiving an alternative 16 18 21.
- Qian Xunji — Son and former Pope. They expanded Spirit Hall together, but Qian Daoliu acknowledged neglecting his upbringing and later described his character as deficient 7 16.
- Bibi Dong — Qian Renxue’s mother and Qian Xunji’s killer. Qian Daoliu protected her from investigation out of guilt and concern for his granddaughter; his hope that mother and daughter would cooperate is rejected by Bibi Dong 13 17.
- Tang Chen — Lifelong rival, friend, and romantic competitor. Qian Daoliu credits him with preventing complacency and recognizes his greater potential for godhood 5 7 10.
- Bo Saixi — Fellow divine representative and unrequited love. She chose Tang Chen, and Qian Daoliu understood her indirect rejection 10 24.
- Golden Crocodile Douluo — Senior Offering and loyal supporter of the Angel Clan. Qian Daoliu stopped him from confronting Bibi Dong after Qian Xunji’s murderer was exposed 14.
- Chen Xin — Descendant of two challengers who died after fighting Qian Daoliu. Chen Xin once hated him but let go of that hatred after accepting his father’s satisfaction with the final duel 3 8.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Heavenly Ranking Entry
- Qian Daoliu is the first person revealed on the Strongest Human Monologue Ranking. His placement at tenth shocks observers who consider a level 99 Peerless Douluo nearly unsurpassable 3.
- His monologue exposes the Six-Winged Angel’s innate advantages, Spirit Hall’s divine inheritance, and major secrets surrounding Qian Xunji’s death 4 6 13.
- Su Ming deliberately uses Qian Daoliu’s established reputation and verifiable history to lend credibility to the Heavenly Screen before introducing fabricated identities. The revelations also generate Vow Power for Su Ming 11 14 26.
Qian Renxue’s Foretold Ascension
- The screen presents a future in which Qian Renxue undertakes the Angel Nine Trials and Qian Daoliu dies helping her complete the Ninth Trial. This is a revealed future, not his current death 16 17.
- Qian Daoliu accepts the prediction because the screen’s account of his past has been accurate. Spirit Hall celebrates, while hostile factions consider eliminating the future inheritor before she becomes a god 16 17.
Holy Light Reward and Seclusion
- After his monologue, the screen awards him the Heart of Holy Light. Shi Lihao attempts to seize it but is erased by the screen, establishing that another person’s reward cannot be stolen 18.
- Qian Daoliu receives the crystal and enters Spirit Hall’s innermost secret chamber, ordering the other Offerings not to disturb him under any circumstances 19 20.
- As fusion begins, his wings change and the Angel God’s inscribed oracles flicker. He remains in seclusion during the later account of Bo Saixi’s relationship with Tang Chen 20 24.
