Background

Miyuki is a direct descendant of the Yotsuba Family, but she is required to conceal that identity. Tatsuya regards her inability to acknowledge her origins openly as an unhappy restriction, particularly when contrasted with Saegusa Mayumi’s determination to take pride in her own family 3.

Within the Yotsuba, Miyuki is a strong candidate for the next family head. Her position makes Tatsuya’s conduct as her guardian a matter of succession politics: Maya and Hayama use the Zhou Gongjin assignment to assess whether he will fulfill his responsibilities despite lacking loyalty to the family itself 3.

Miyuki has received training in anticipation of fighting foreign magicians. During the previous Yokohama Disturbance, she encountered Chen Xiangshan, a Demon Gate Dunjia user, at the Magic Association’s Kanto Branch. She later describes how his technique prevented her from properly observing his approach through surveillance monitors 4 5.

Appearance

Miyuki’s beauty repeatedly attracts attention, with Erika describing her features as so perfect that meeting someone comparable seems extraordinary 4.

Personality

Miyuki’s affection for Tatsuya extends beyond ordinary sibling attachment. She places him above school obligations, worries about his safety even when she knows how difficult he is to injure, and wants to share the emotional burdens he tries to conceal. Although reluctant to leave him in Kyoto, she ultimately accepts his instruction to return to her duties as student council president 1 5.

Her protectiveness can become anger when others question Tatsuya. After the Arashiyama battle, he has to work to prevent her from losing her temper with a detective who suspects him of excessive force. She is also sensitive to his interactions with Mayumi, questioning their private meeting and later pressing him to explain Mayumi’s reference to an evening they spent together 3 5 7.

Despite her overwhelming combat ability, Miyuki dislikes killing. She also shows social consideration: when Masaki lacks knowledge about Golems, she pretends to know little about them herself so that Tatsuya can explain without embarrassing him 5.

Kyoto Search

Miyuki travels to Kyoto with Tatsuya and Minami on official school leave, nominally to prepare for the Thesis Competition. With Minoru as their guide, they investigate areas associated with the Traditionalists sheltering Zhou Gongjin 4.

During the search, she participates in discussions about the Traditionalists’ motives and questions how a barrier could be maintained across the entire Uji River. Her question precedes Tatsuya’s realization that the river itself is being used to carry a magical medium downstream 4.

Nagura Investigation and Arashiyama Ambush

On October 21, Miyuki accompanies Tatsuya, Mayumi, and Masaki to investigate Nagura’s death while Minami remains at the hotel to care for the sick Minoru. At the police evidence room, she helps clarify Tatsuya’s explanation of the Phantasmal Beast believed responsible for Nagura’s fatal wound 5.

When ancient magicians ambush them in Arashiyama, Miyuki blocks the opening attacks with Zone Interference. She then incapacitates two attackers nonlethally and suppresses the Kurikara Swords of four others. Tatsuya later credits her and Masaki for their success 5.

Minoru’s Condition

Miyuki notices Tatsuya’s unusual distress after he examines Minoru’s Psion Body. Once Tatsuya returns home, she insists that his earlier explanation addressed only Minoru’s condition, not what had troubled him during the examination 5.

Her pleading persuades him to reveal that Minoru is an Adjusted Body created using genetic material from siblings, making him Fujibayashi Kyouko’s maternal half-brother. Miyuki is deeply shocked. When Tatsuya explains that closely related genetic material might have contributed to the instability of Minoru’s Psion Body, she turns pale and reacts almost as though the issue concerns her personally 5.

2096 Thesis Competition

Miyuki handles the First High School group’s hotel check-in and serves as a judge at the competition. She is excused from judging her own school’s presentation, allowing her to watch Isori’s Engraving-Type Magic presentation beside Tatsuya 6 7.

Both initially believe First High School’s innovative presentation has secured victory. The competition is ultimately won by Second High School, whose presentation is delivered by Minoru 7.
