Background / History
Huo Yun’er and the Duke’s Household
Huo Yun’er served as Dai Hao’s personal maid from childhood and bore his son, Huo Yuhao. Despite their hardship in the White Tiger Duke’s Mansion, she refused her son’s requests to leave, believing Dai Hao would eventually return for her 1.
Dai Hao gave Huo Yuhao no care during his first eleven years. When confronted later, he attributed his neglect of mother and son to the nation’s wars. He subsequently admitted at Huo Yun’er’s grave that he had knowingly left her alone despite understanding her devotion 24 26 29.
Memories of the Future
While stationed at the White Tiger army camp, Dai Hao suddenly received memories of a future in which Huo Yuhao became the God of Emotion. In those memories, Huo Yun’er was resurrected, Huo Yuhao adopted the Dai surname, and Dai Hao regained the Star Luo throne for his family before accompanying them to the Divine Realm 12.
Excited by the prospect of benefiting from his son’s achievements, Dai Hao ordered Du Leisi to return to the mansion with him. His stated aim was to establish himself as a worthy father and secure a route to godhood through Huo Yuhao 12.
Destruction of the Mansion
Dai Hao returned to find his mansion reduced to rubble. Furious and initially unable to locate its residents, he forced his way into Emperor Xu Jiawei’s study and demanded answers. Xu Jiawei and Wang Xian’er explained that the attackers had destroyed the estate without killing its inhabitants, but the investigation had yet to identify them 14.
Du Busi had razed the mansion in retaliation for Huo Yuhao’s mistreatment. Dai Hao and Xu Jiawei subsequently demanded an explanation from the Body Sect, only to be beaten out by its elders after they learned about Huo Yuhao’s childhood 18 23.
Imperial Conference and Compensation
At the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace, Dai Hao recognized Huo Yuhao and abruptly abandoned his grievance over the mansion. He approached with declarations of paternal affection, hoping to bring his son back into the Dai Family. Huo Yuhao rejected him, identified himself as an orphan of the Body Sect, and denied any connection through the White Tiger Martial Soul 24.
Dai Hao then declined to pursue his complaint, hoping the concession would earn goodwill. Instead, Du Busi demanded compensation for Huo Yuhao’s suffering, naming a Dragon Core and the Spirit-Devouring Carving Knife as the combined obligations of the mansion and Shrek 25.
Unable to provide a Dragon Core, Dai Hao offered to seal Dai Huabin’s and the duchess’s Martial Souls and Soul Power and surrender them as Huo Yuhao’s servants. Huo Yuhao provisionally accepted. Dai Hao recorded the terms and signed the contract with his name and thumbprint 26.
Enforcing the Agreement
When his family protested the failed negotiations, Dai Hao punched the duchess in the abdomen and knocked Dai Huabin unconscious. He explained the underlying abuse to Dai Yueheng, who refused to protect his mother and brother after hearing the account 29.
Dai Hao then knelt at Huo Yun’er’s grave and begged her to appear in Huo Yuhao’s dreams to obtain his forgiveness. He still expected her eventual resurrection to persuade Huo Yuhao to acknowledge the Dai Family, allowing him to accompany them to the Divine Realm 29 30.
He later delivered Dai Huabin and the duchess to the Body Sect with their Soul Power sealed. Before leaving, he asked whether Du Busi would continue targeting the mansion. Du Busi made that conditional on the household’s conduct, and Dai Hao departed without expressing concern for either captive 34 35.
Personality
Dai Hao’s renewed interest in Huo Yuhao is explicitly tied to ambition. His future memories promise imperial restoration and entry into the Divine Realm, motivating an affectionate display that Huo Yuhao regards as hypocritical. Even after rejection, Dai Hao minimizes his eleven years of neglect and expects his paternal status to carry weight 12 24 26.
His conduct changes sharply with the balance of power. He threatens bloody retaliation upon discovering the mansion’s destruction, but retreats under Du Busi’s pressure. Within his household, he uses violence to enforce the compensation agreement and sacrifices his wife and legitimate son to settle the dispute 14 26 29 35.
He treats Dai Yueheng more patiently, considering him his most sensible child. He explains the dispute when asked and approves when Dai Yueheng refuses to shield the offenders 29.
