A burst of arrogant laughter echoed through the night sky. Spider-Man, who had vanished from sight recently, had reappeared. Unlike his usual amusing way of teasing criminals, New York's friendly neighborhood hero seemed to be in an especially bad mood tonight. He showed no restraint, ruthlessly beating up every criminal roaming the streets.
"I'm Spider-Man, a superhero—"
The black figure climbed and leaped between the towering buildings, suddenly dropping from the sky. A web line carried him swiftly past the traffic below. The unparalleled thrill and the swelling satisfaction deep within filled Spider-Man's chest, carrying him higher and farther.
The reappearing Spider-Man had undergone some subtle changes. His usual red bodysuit had turned a deep black, as though it had blended into the night. At the same time, he had become much more talkative.
"What a bunch of blind little thieves. This neighborhood is my turf. It's only because Spider-Man beats down scum like you that New York can maintain order!"
After taking care of a car thief, Spider-Man smugly struck several cool poses for a camera webbed to a streetlamp. The battered, bruised criminal beside him made for a stark contrast.
This Spider-Man in a black suit seemed completely different from usual. Not only were his methods vicious, but his mouth never stopped either. "I'm so sick of criminals like you. When am I going to get to do something big? A world-destroying supervillain would be nice. Dun dun dun dun! At the critical moment, Spider-Man makes his dazzling entrance and becomes the great hero who saves the world. A perfect script—but why can't I find any actors to take part in it?"
Standing atop a building, Spider-Man was deeply troubled, muttering nonstop. Peter Parker, hidden beneath the black suit, seemed not to notice the changes in his personality.
