On the way back, Wanda no longer showed any obvious emotion. She occasionally exchanged a few words with Sean, but they were mostly about work, and she maintained a formal, serious tone.
Sean could more or less guess the red-haired girl's complicated feelings and was happy to play along. Rather than teasing Wanda again, he buried himself in the mountain of documents.
Feelings between a man and a woman were sometimes like a war. What tactics to employ generally depended on the circumstances.
For someone as reserved and sensitive as Wanda, a blitzkrieg clearly would not do. Taking things slowly and advancing step by step was the proper course.
"Bobby has certainly matured a lot."
Flipping through the documents, Sean nodded to himself.
Earlier, a new team had risen abruptly among the Mutants of North America. Its members were all young people. They neither joined Charles's academy nor chose to rely on Magneto's Brotherhood, and they also rejected the Registration Act promoted by the government.
This isolated new force gradually grew across North America, drawing in many young Mutants with rebellious streaks. They had never experienced the dark era of the older generation and did not understand the brutality and terror of being hunted by the government, captured by the military, and reduced to living specimens on operating tables.
After Magneto left for the African Continent, some ideologically radical young Mutants refused to join the moderates led by Professor Charles, believing it was cowardice—no different from surrendering to humanity.
Later, someone put forward the slogan The Gifted. The phrase spread rapidly, and several capable young Mutants rallied supporters with a single call, naturally attracting a great many responses. They went on to cause quite a few incidents throughout North America, and reports were sent one after another to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
