As Pill Tower Chairman, Xuan Kongzi personally accepted Ye Chen as his disciple after the latter became a Core Disciple. His first gift was the ancient Mystic Tier High-Level soul skill Soul Handprint. 158

He explained that ancient alchemists could use Soul Power to rival the Dou Techniques of powerful cultivators, but stressed that surviving soul skills were exceedingly rare. He refused to give Ye Chen a Soul Cultivation Method prematurely, requiring him first to become a Seventh Grade Alchemist and reach peak Dou Emperor cultivation. 158

After the Star Origin Pill disturbed the sealed Three Thousand Blazing Flames, Xuan Kongzi recognized that Ye Chen's star-oriented constitution and cultivation method might allow a mutually beneficial bond with the Heavenly Flame. He nevertheless understood that Ye Chen needed sufficient physical and Soul Power to avoid being suppressed. 180

He stood guard when Ye Chen attempted to subdue the Three Thousand Blazing Flames. When the flame appeared to possess Ye Chen's body, Xuan Kongzi prepared a full-power attack despite the risk to his disciple, forcing the flame to threaten Ye Chen's life in response. 266

Conflict with the Hall of Souls

Xuan Kongzi reacted with open fury when Ye Chen was ambushed and disappeared following a Hall of Souls attack in the Pill Region. He considered the assault both a personal attack on his disciple and a direct challenge to the Pill Tower's authority. 238

After Ye Chen's rise, Xuan Kongzi increasingly wished to leave administrative responsibilities behind and return to alchemy and cultivation. He first voiced this desire after witnessing Ye Chen's progress in the Star Domain and later reconsidered his role after Ye Chen broke through to the Heaven Realm. 271 374

Xuan Kongzi is patient, perceptive, and notably indulgent toward Ye Chen's ambition. He teaches through conditions and warnings rather than simply granting every request, believing that cultivation methods used before their time can do more harm than good. 158
