Tetsuya traveled from Viridian to Cerulean, earning Gym badges, winning the St. Anne tournament, and training his Pokémon. After beginning work as a temporary instructor, he explored a mountain cave, captured three powerful Pokémon, and found unusual glowing moss.

  • Tetsuya raised Combusken and traveled to Pewter City, where Combusken defeated Brock’s Graveler and Dugtrio to win the Gym battle.
  • Tetsuya survived a Beedrill swarm, sold materials and a Fire Stone, obtained Pidgeot and Combusken, and left Viridian City for Pewter.

Arc 1From Viridian to Pewter

Tetsuya trained Pidgeot, obtained a Champion-potential Torchic, and raised it into Combusken while building his resources and preparing to travel. After reaching Pewter City, he defeated Brock’s Graveler and Dugtrio in a Gym battle, winning the first round toward the Boulder Badge.

  • Tetsuya survived a Beedrill swarm in Viridian Forest, treated Pidgeotto, and sold gathered materials to fund his training.
  • Tetsuya raised Pidgeotto through missions until it evolved into Champion-potential Pidgeot, then sold a valuable Fire Stone to afford new partners.

Arc 2The St. Anne Tournament

Tetsuya built up his team and resources in Pewter City, then joined the St. Anne cruise as Brock’s representative. After studying the ship’s competitors and meeting Professor Rowan, he entered the tournament and began his first battle against Iron Man.

  • Tetsuya collected his Boulder Badge, discussed Pokémon training with Brock, and drew Brock and Flint’s interest in his potential.
  • Tetsuya chose to pursue the Unlimited Format, sold a rare-marked Pichu, and agreed to Pewter Gym’s investment terms while taking missions around Mt. Moon.
  • Tetsuya completed Geodude’s Training Plan, chose a high-potential egg, and later hatched Roggenrola as his third Pokémon.

Arc 3White Cape Training

After winning the tournament, Tetsuya claimed his rewards and traveled to White Cape to train his Pokémon and complete missions. As Combusken began learning from a skilled Scyther, Tetsuya’s training was interrupted by Mankey and something hidden in the grass.

  • Combusken defeated Hitmonchan, and Tetsuya advanced through the tournament before defeating Otake Tomitomi in the quarterfinals.
  • Tetsuya beat Kajiyama in the semifinal, then defeated Reiji in the final when Pidgeot knocked out Staraptor.
  • Tetsuya received a Charcoal and a Leaf Stone as his prizes, gave the Charcoal to Combusken, and arranged for Brock to receive the Leaf Stone.
  • Tetsuya traveled to White Cape, captured Arbok and Ekans while completing a mission, and sold captured snakes for 3.2 million Alliance Coins.
  • Tetsuya trained Pidgeot to break through waves with Brave Bird and set a rigorous daily training routine for Pidgeot, Roggenrola, and Combusken.

Arc 4Cerulean and the Mountain Cave

Tetsuya evolved Combusken into Blaziken, won the Cerulean Gym Badge, and began teaching at the Pokémon School. While training in a mountain cave, he captured Rhyperior, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen and discovered unusual glowing moss.

  • The Mankey gave Pidgeot two Ancient Fossils, and Tetsuya left White Cape before completing a long training period that evolved Roggenrola into Boldore and Combusken into Blaziken.
  • Scyther refused to travel with Tetsuya, who thanked it for training his Pokémon and set off for Cerulean City with Blaziken, Pidgeot, and Boldore.
  • Tetsuya defeated Sakura’s Goldeen and Dewgong in a Gym Battle and collected the Blue Badge.
