Ch. 497All Beyond Expectation

Tetsuya and his Pokémon overwhelmed Hunter R’s team during a fight in the Dragon Holy Land, while Hunter R prepared to use a hidden contingency. Before the battle could end, an enraged Pokémon burst through the waterfall and struck both sides.

  • Tetsuya’s Blaziken burned away Hunter R’s opening attacks and knocked Exeggutor into the river with Flame Charge.
  • Blaziken used Aura and Dig to evade Hunter R’s attacks, then emerged beneath Victreebel and launched it into the air.
  • Hunter R told her partner that they had three minutes before they needed to use their contingency, and Tetsuya overheard them.
  • Pidgeot’s Hurricane held against Venusaur’s Solar Beam while Blaziken battered Victreebel and Exeggutor.
  • As Blaziken prepared to finish the fight, an enraged Dragon Roar shattered the Water Veil and an indistinct shadow charged through the waterfall, knocking Victreebel, Exeggutor, and Blaziken aside.

Ch. 498The Enraged Guardian, Outrage State

Tetsuya and the poachers faced the Dragon's Den guardian, Dragonite, after it entered a powerful Outrage state. As Dragonite battled two strange fused Legendary Birds, Tetsuya gathered intelligence and prepared for the Dragon Clan's arrival.

  • Dragonite appeared in a red Outrage state and sent Tetsuya's and the poachers' Pokemon flying, leaving Gallade standing alone to protect Tetsuya.
  • Tetsuya learned the poachers had taken some of the five-hundred-year-old flame and suspected their retreating accomplice had flooded the den, provoking Dragonite.
  • Hunter R released two fused birds with Moltres and Zapdos heads, and Tetsuya recognized them as apparent Team Rocket experiments.
  • Dragonite fought the fused birds while Tetsuya and Zero recorded their abilities and weaknesses; Tetsuya reassured Garchomp and prepared his Pokemon for what might follow.
  • Tetsuya refused Gallade's offer to evacuate him, made final preparations with Blaziken, and noted that the Dragon Clan should arrive soon as the battered poachers struggled to survive.

Ch. 499Mega Salamence, the Dragon Elder's Special Ability

Tetsuya watched Dragonite defeat Team Rocket’s two genetically engineered Two-headed Monster Birds before the Dragon Elder arrived and calmed the guardian Dragonite with her Dragon-type ability. The poachers were captured, and the Dragon Elder turned her attention to Tetsuya.

  • Hunter R and Hunter K tried to evade the attacks of the Two-headed Monster Birds while privately planning how to survive and bargain with the League.
  • Tetsuya recognized the poachers as leaders of the Gore Poaching Group and suspected Team Rocket was using the attack to expand its influence and test its engineered Pokemon.
  • Dragonite defeated both Two-headed Monster Birds and left Hunter R and Hunter K incapacitated.
  • The Dragon Elder arrived on Salamence, Mega Evolved it, and battled Dragonite while standing directly in the fighting.
  • The Dragon Elder used Dragon-type energy to calm Dragonite’s Outrage, then subdued it again when it began to lose control.
  • After Dragonite captured the poachers, the Dragon Elder approached Tetsuya, who stepped out to greet her.

Ch. 500Dragon Holy Land, and an Even More Reckless One

Tetsuya learned that poachers had damaged the Dragon Holy Land and destroyed a stone treasured by the guardian Dragonite, so he entered the sanctuary to help repair it. After Gigalith began restoring the stone, another Dragon Roar reached them and the Dragon Elder reacted with anger, leaving a new threat approaching.

  • The Dragon Elder explained that she had calmed the guardian Dragonite with Dragon Power and said poachers had damaged the sanctuary and destroyed a stone left by her father.
  • Tetsuya offered to help repair the stone, and the Dragon Elder agreed to take him into the Dragon Holy Land.
  • The Dragon Elder and Tetsuya crossed the waterfall entrance in a balloon pulled by Dragonite and Salamence, then found the Garchomp Leader struggling to repair the stone.
  • Tetsuya sent out Gigalith, which confirmed it could repair the stone, while the guardian Dragonite moved the Garchomp Leader aside.
  • A faint Dragon Roar sounded, and the Dragon Elder darkened as she looked toward its source.

Ch. 501Meeting New Dragon Pokémon

Tetsuya watched Salamence investigate a strange Dragon Roar while Gigalith repaired a sacred rock, and Dragonite rewarded him with a valuable scale. After Salamence brought back the captured intruder Matsumoto Matsushita, the Dragon Elder identified the unfamiliar Dragon-Ghost Pokémon as Dreepy, Drakloak, and Dragapult, who arrived and curiously circled Tetsuya.

  • Salamence flew to investigate the unfamiliar Dragon Roar while Tetsuya and the Dragon Elder stayed behind as Gigalith restored the damaged rock.
  • Dragonite gave Tetsuya one of its shed scales, and the Garchomp Leader realized the gift could benefit its grandson.
  • Salamence returned with the unconscious Matsumoto Matsushita, whom the Dragon Elder and Tetsuya learned had been sent by Team Rocket to find the Dragon Holy Land and its Dragon-Ghost Pokémon.
  • Matsumoto Matsushita asked about the Pokémon, and the Dragon Elder named them Dreepy, Drakloak, and Dragapult.
  • Dreepy, Drakloak, and Dragapult arrived with captured Gastly-family Pokémon, and the Dreepy gathered around Tetsuya before Dragonite patted one on the head.

Ch. 502Passage to the Sea

After Tetsuya helped protect the Dragon Holy Land, the Dragon Elder offered him a chance to take another Dragon Type Pokemon if he could pass trials and win its parents' approval. Dragapult carried him and the Elder through a hidden passage to the sea, where she revealed the Dragon Archipelago as their destination.

  • The Dragon Elder explained that Dreepy were Ghost Type Pokemon descended from ancient Dragon Pokemon and that Galar had designated them as pseudo-legendaries.
  • Tetsuya learned the Dragon Elder would let him try to take another Pokemon from the Dragon's Den in recognition of his help stopping the poachers.
  • The Dragon Elder said Tetsuya would need to pass trials by persuading the parents of the Pokemon he wanted to take.
  • The Dragon Elder and Tetsuya mounted Salamence and Dragapult, and Dragapult carried Tetsuya through a hidden passage toward the sea.
  • The Dragon Elder revealed that the passage led to the Dragon Archipelago, the Dragon Clan's core and the home of many powerful Dragon Type Pokemon.

Ch. 503Islands on the Sea

Tetsuya learned that the Dragon Archipelago was a hidden refuge beyond dangerous storms, and the Dragon Elder brought him there with Dragapult. After hearing how the Ghost-type dragons were shunned by others, Tetsuya offered to take one as a partner and arrived on the tranquil island, where its Dragonite welcomed the Dragon Elder's Pokémon home.

  • The Dragon Elder explained that the Dragon Archipelago lay beyond violent storms and reefs, and Tetsuya asked how its Pokémon reached it.
  • The Dragon Elder and Tetsuya flew toward the islands on Dragonite and Dragapult, using their abilities to pass safely through the storm.
  • The Dragon Elder told Tetsuya that Dreepy and Dragapult were isolated because other Dragon-type Pokémon rejected them, and that she hoped he would take one as a partner.
  • Tetsuya sympathized with Dragapult and offered to become a partner to one of the Ghost-type dragons.
  • The group reached a peaceful island where Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite gathered around the Dragon Elder's Dragonite, which she said was home.

Ch. 505Choice (Apology Extra Chapter)

Tetsuya visited the Dragon Archipelago, where the Dragon Elder explained the challenges of raising Dreepy and its evolutions. He chose to become a Dreepy trainer, and the Dragon Elder took him by raft toward their island.

  • The Dragon Elder revealed that more than four hundred Dragonite family members lived on the sanctuary island and showed Tetsuya the protected archipelago.
  • The Dragon Elder explained Dreepy's demanding evolution levels, weak early combat skills, and the difficulties of caring for Drakloak.
  • Tetsuya asked about Dragapult's Dragon Darts, and the Dragon Elder clarified that it could use the move without launching Dreepy.
  • Tetsuya chose Dreepy despite the challenges, and the Dragon Elder led him onto a raft with Prinplup pulling it toward the Dreepy island.

Ch. 506Dragapult, Battle (Ten-Minute Revision)

Tetsuya and the Dragon Elder reached the Dreepy clan’s island, where the leader agreed to let Tetsuya choose a Dreepy if he could defeat another Dragapult. Tetsuya sent Pidgeot into battle, and the chapter ended as the two Pokemon clashed in the air.

  • Tetsuya and the Dragon Elder arrived at the Dreepy clan’s island, where the Champion-level Dragapult leader welcomed them.
  • The Dragon Elder explained that Tetsuya had to defeat a Dragapult to earn the right to take a Dreepy, and Tetsuya chose his opponent.
  • Tetsuya sent Pidgeot into battle, and Pidgeot used Agility to exploit its speed against Dragapult.
  • Dragapult struck Pidgeot with Dragon Darts after using Lock-On, then launched Draco Meteor, which Pidgeot evaded before counterattacking with Sky Attack.
  • Pidgeot and Dragapult collided in the air, and Tetsuya ordered Pidgeot to pull back and use Air Slash.

Ch. 507Recruiting a Double Pseudo-Legendary

Tetsuya and Pidgeot defeated the Dragapult Leader in a nighttime battle, earning the clan’s recognition. He then chose and caught an outgoing Dreepy, leaving with a new partner for his team.

  • Tetsuya ordered Pidgeot to use Double Team and Roost, then it used a Substitute and Feather Dance to conceal its position before striking Dragapult with Sky Attack.
  • The Dragon Elder praised Tetsuya’s strategy, and the defeated Dragapult Leader accepted him and called its Dreepy clan over.
  • Tetsuya asked Gallade whether it was comfortable around Ghost Type Pokemon, and Gallade agreed that the Dragapult clan’s aura felt more like that of Dragon Type Pokemon.
  • Tetsuya examined the Dreepy’s potential and chose an outgoing Dreepy with Quasi-Champion Potential, despite feeling briefly disappointed that none had Champion Potential.
  • The Dreepy happily accepted Tetsuya, and he caught it in a Luxury Ball.

Ch. 508Returning with a Full Load, Probably...

Tetsuya captured a Dreepy from the Dragon Archipelago and began assessing its abilities and training needs. The Dragon Elder offered him species information and training supplies, but their enormous cost left him worried about balancing the new Dragon-types’ expenses with his other Pokemon.

  • Tetsuya thanked the Dragon Elder and the Dreepy before welcoming his newly captured Dreepy, while Prinplup happily returned from swimming.
  • Tetsuya reviewed Dreepy’s abilities, moves, and potential, and the Dragon Elder promised to provide species information and training advice.
  • Tetsuya asked to buy Dragon-type training materials, and the Dragon Elder offered him a ten percent discount and directed him to arrange the purchase through Clair.
  • Tetsuya calculated that raising two Dragon-type Pokemon would cost nearly nine figures just to reach their Second Form, leaving him anxious about funding their training.
  • At the Pokemon Center in Blackthorn City, Tetsuya rested while Dreepy explored the room, Alolan Vulpix welcomed its new playmate, and he placed the Gible Egg beside his bed.

Ch. 509In Pain, Yet Happy

Tetsuya spent two weeks in Blackthorn City buying training supplies and preparing his Pokémon while Dreepy and Prinplup trained. His Gible Egg finally hatched, leaving him with a newborn Gible biting his hand.

  • Tetsuya joked with his friends about the cost of raising two Pseudo-Legendaries and kept the identity of his second one secret.
  • Tetsuya told Brock that he planned to stay in Blackthorn City until Gible hatched, and he promised Shinji he would show it to him after it was born.
  • During the next two weeks, Brock trained his Shiny Magikarp and Ninetales while Tetsuya spent nearly all his money on supplies from the Dragon Clan.
  • Dreepy reached Level 12, and Prinplup improved its water control while practicing a compressed Water Pulse with Tetsuya.
  • Tetsuya’s Gible Egg hatched, and the newborn Gible immediately bit down on his hand.

Ch. 511Pokemon Marine Research Institute

Tetsuya discovered that his newly hatched Gible had Champion potential and an unusually large number of inherited moves, then prepared to leave Blackthorn City. At the Pokemon Marine Research Institute, researcher Narumi awaited his help with Ocean Pokemon that had been attacking the institute’s workers.

  • Tetsuya examined Gible’s panel and found seven inherited moves, including Outrage, along with Champion potential.
  • Tetsuya fed Gible Moomoo Milk, and Gible eagerly gnawed on Gigalith while the others tried to stop it.
  • Dragonite took Gible flying, leaving Gible exhausted and Tetsuya convinced it wanted to fly like Dragonite.
  • Clair allowed Tetsuya to take Gible to Dragon’s Den for an inspection, and Tetsuya rode Pidgeot there before meeting Brock at the Pokemon Center.
  • Tetsuya and Brock headed toward Blackthorn City’s southern exit as Narumi explained that Ocean Pokemon had gathered near her institute and attacked its workers.

Ch. 512Unusual Movement Among the Ocean Pokemon

Tetsuya arrived at Narumi’s Ocean Research Institute and used Serperior and Ampharos to drive back the attacking Ocean Pokemon. Suspecting their unusual gathering had a deeper cause, he flew off on Pidgeot to investigate, while Brock introduced himself to Narumi.

  • Narumi and Keita’s team struggled to hold back the many Ocean Pokemon attacking near the institute.
  • Tetsuya and Brock reached the area, and Tetsuya joined Keita’s team to help.
  • Serperior cleared a stretch of water with Magical Leaf, and Ampharos’s Thunder drove the Ocean Pokemon into retreat.
  • Tetsuya learned that several different Pokemon groups had been attacking together and suspected an unusual cause behind their gathering.
  • Tetsuya flew off on Pidgeot to investigate, while Narumi arrived and Brock introduced himself to her.

Ch. 513Slowpoke Temple, King of Slowpoke

Tetsuya tracked the Ocean Pokemon to Slowpoke Temple, where he met Slowking, the temple’s abbot and the likely force behind their movement. Slowking admitted it had ordered the Pokemon to attack a research institute and insisted the site could not be built yet.

  • Tetsuya and Pidgeot searched the locations marked on a map and found that a lake near Slowpoke Temple felt familiar to them.
  • Tetsuya visited Slowpoke Temple, read about its history and Slowpoke Lake, and suspected a Slowking was controlling the Ocean Pokemon.
  • A monk led Tetsuya to the abbot, and Tetsuya recognized the voice in his mind as Slowking’s.
  • Tetsuya confronted Slowking about ordering the Ocean Pokemon to attack a research institute.
  • Slowking said the research site was unsuitable and would have to wait a few years before construction could proceed.

Ch. 515A Negotiated Deal; Infiltrating the Deep Sea

Tetsuya negotiated with Slowking over the research institute, learning that its hidden master was protecting a newly born Little Lugia. Slowking brought Tetsuya and Prinplup into the deep sea to seek its lord's decision, where a pair of eyes opened on the seafloor.

  • Tetsuya confirmed that the research institute could not be moved because the Lapras herds followed a fixed migration route, and Slowking revealed that its lord's child was the reason it opposed the project.
  • Tetsuya suggested moving Little Lugia to Altomare, the Whirl Islands, or the sea near Azalea Town, and Slowking decided to ask its lord for instructions.
  • Slowking took Tetsuya and Prinplup across the sea and descended with them inside a Psychic Barrier, while Prinplup struggled against the increasing depth and pressure.
  • At the deeper seafloor, an unseen Pokemon opened its eyes and looked toward the waters above.

Ch. 516A Different Flying Experience (First Chapter Update, 4k)

Tetsuya met Lugia and agreed to help her child live freely without being exploited by humans. Lugia then carried Tetsuya, Prinplup, and Little Lugia into the sky, where Tetsuya excitedly took photos of the flight.

  • Lugia awakened, met Tetsuya, and agreed to try raising Little Lugia near the Whirl Islands if a human befriended her child rather than seeking her power.
  • Lugia called Little Lugia back, and Prinplup tried to claim the smaller Pokemon as its underling until Tetsuya stopped it.
  • Lugia explained that Little Lugia would be allowed to leave the seabed and play, and the young Pokemon celebrated the news.
  • Lugia carried Tetsuya, Prinplup, and Little Lugia from the deep sea into the sky, protecting them with a barrier.
  • Tetsuya marveled at flying on Lugia and began taking selfies and photographs with his smartwatch and camera.

Ch. 517Whirl Islands, An Unplanned Separation

Tetsuya left Little Lugia on a secluded island with its parent, then traveled to Olivine City and considered entering the newly announced Whirl Cup. The next morning, Professor Oak called excitedly about Tetsuya’s photographs, leaving him to deal with the professor’s sleepless research frenzy.

  • Lugia brought Tetsuya, Prinplup, and Little Lugia to a remote island and explained that it had chosen the place as a safe home for its child.
  • Little Lugia bestowed Ocean's Blessing on Prinplup while they played, and Tetsuya decided to seek a high-quality Water Stone for Prinplup.
  • Lugia departed, and Tetsuya took Prinplup to Olivine City, where he learned that the Whirl Cup had just been announced and discussed his plans with Brock.
  • Tetsuya reviewed the Whirl Cup rules and realized he had only one Water-type Pokémon available, while he and Brock planned to part ways after their remaining duties.
  • Tetsuya slept through Professor Oak's repeated calls, then called back the next morning and heard the professor excitedly praise his photographs and demand more.

Ch. 518Before the Competition

Tetsuya agreed to let Urshifu have offspring, allowing Professor Rowan and Professor Oak to study its unusual life cycle. Before the Whirl Cup preliminaries, he visited Big Pidgey Island, then arrived at Venue C with Prinplup to begin his qualifying battles.

  • Professor Rowan told Tetsuya that Urshifu planned to have children and explained that it produced Kubfu through a process resembling Legendary Pokémon reproduction.
  • Tetsuya gave Urshifu permission to have offspring, and Professor Rowan welcomed the chance to study it before being knocked unconscious by Urshifu.
  • Tetsuya flew to Big Pidgey Island with Pidgeot, where administrator Fei Tai showed him the oversized Pidgey and Pidgeotto that had grown too fat to fly.
  • A smaller Pidgey watched Pidgeot depart, then noticed paintings of the sun, moon, and stars and showed a new light in its eyes.
  • Tetsuya arrived at the Ancient Arena and learned that more than two thousand Trainers had registered for the Whirl Cup, then headed to Venue C for five preliminary battles with Prinplup.

Ch. 519Prinplup Using Water Sport

Tetsuya and Prinplup won their first four Whirl Cup preliminary battles with ease before facing the Fishing Uncle and his Elite Level Octillery in the fifth. The chapter ended as Octillery fired a surprising Bullet Seed at Prinplup through the ink-filled arena.

  • Prinplup defeated Bolei's Corsola by trapping it in controlled water currents and finishing it with Metal Claw.
  • Tetsuya met the Fishing Uncle, who said his goal was to reach the Whirl Cup Main Competition with his Octillery.
  • Tetsuya and Prinplup won their next three preliminary battles against Corphish, Krabby, and Shellder.
  • Tetsuya discovered that his fifth opponent was the Fishing Uncle, whose Octillery was at Elite Level.
  • Octillery filled the pool with ink using Octazooka, but Prinplup protected itself with Aqua Ring.
  • The Fishing Uncle ordered Octillery to attack Prinplup with Bullet Seed.
