After Marquis Charles led Su Yi into Moon Pavilion, he looked at the guards on the first floor with a smile and walked over.
A bag of Gold Soul Coins appeared in his hand, and he stuffed it directly into one guard's arms. In a soft voice, he said, "Brother, could you please help me find the Moon Pavilion Mistress? I have an important matter to discuss with her."
Feeling the number of Gold Soul Coins Charles had slipped into his arms, the guard smiled faintly. "Of course, Marquis Charles. Since Marquis Charles has personally come to our Moon Pavilion, I'm sure our Pavilion Mistress will make time for you."
After speaking, the guard headed straight upstairs.
Before long, an exceptionally beautiful woman appeared on the second floor of Moon Pavilion, with the same guard following behind her.
She was graceful and noble, with breathtaking features.
She slowly descended from the second floor and stopped before Charles and Su Yi. Her calm, water-like eyes lingered on Su Yi for an extra moment.
Then, she looked at Charles and smiled faintly. "What brings Marquis Charles to my Moon Pavilion?"
Looking at the stunning woman before him, Charles smiled slightly. "Moon Pavilion Mistress, may we speak somewhere more private?"
Yue Hua looked at Charles. After hearing his words, she nodded and turned toward the staircase on the second floor, gesturing for Charles to follow her upstairs.
Charles led Su Yi behind Yue Hua to the second floor of Moon Pavilion.
The guard following Yue Hua opened the door for them. After Yue Hua entered, Charles brought Su Yi into the room as well.
The guard remained outside and closed the door.
"What does Marquis Charles wish to discuss?"
Yue Hua looked at Charles, who sat across from her, and asked softly.
Upon hearing Yue Hua's words, Charles abruptly knelt before her, a look of utter grief appearing on his face.
Yue Hua, who had been sitting opposite Charles, frowned slightly when she saw him suddenly kneel before her.
"Marquis Charles, what are you doing?"
Hearing Yue Hua's words, Charles, kneeling before her, revealed deep regret in his eyes. Then, tears began streaming down his face.
He cried mournfully, "I beg the Moon Pavilion Mistress to take in my son."
Sitting beside Charles and watching his performance, Su Yi's eyes remained utterly still. He sat there calmly and coldly.
"Your son?"
Yue Hua, on the other hand, showed a trace of confusion upon hearing Charles's words.
What kind of trick was Marquis Charles trying to play before her? Just as Yue Hua watched the howling, sobbing Charles with a puzzled expression, Charles spoke sorrowfully. "Moon Pavilion Mistress, this is my son."
"Outsiders and the servants in my estate all believe he is my nephew, but in truth, this child is my illegitimate son."
"At the time, I was at a crucial stage in my promotion and did not dare bring the mother and son back to my estate. If those people in noble circles learned that the esteemed Lord Charles had married a commoner woman, I would never be able to hold my head up among the nobility again."
"By then, my path to promotion would have been cut off."
"This child was always cared for by his mother. When he was three years old, my wife eventually passed away from hunger and illness, leaving this child all alone."
"For the past two years, this child had lived worse than a beggar. He never had enough to eat at any meal, and he never knew where or what his next meal would be."
"When I found him, this child was fighting a stray dog over garbage."
"After I brought him home, he had always been this way, keeping everyone at arm's length. He guarded against everyone and trusted no one."
"Half a year. For half a year, this child never called me father. Forget calling me father, he did not even say a single word to me."
By this point, Charles had cried so hard he was nearly fainting.
As Yue Hua sat there listening to Charles's account, deep disgust gradually appeared in her eyes as she looked at him.
But when she looked into Su Yi's eyes, she froze.
What kind of eyes were those? Watching his father kneel there in remorseful tears, there was not the slightest ripple in his eyes. They were so cold, indifferent, and calm, without a single stir.
Just how deeply did he hate this detestable man before him?
While Yue Hua stared blankly at Su Yi, Su Yi, sitting beside Charles, calmly glanced at the kneeling man and etched the face of the man named Charles into his heart.
This man was not simple. One could even say he was terrifying.
Merely after hearing Chrysanthemum Douluo tell him a few things about Su Yi, he had come here and fabricated such a realistic, moving lie.
Why was it moving? Because every expression he revealed came from the depths of his heart. It was as if he truly were Su Yi's father.
That was why, after seeing the genuine emotion Charles displayed, the woman before him had developed a trace of disgust in her eyes when she looked at Charles.
Now, when she looked at Su Yi, there was a trace of pity in her gaze.
"Moon Pavilion Mistress, I know I am not a qualified father, much less a qualified husband. I do not even deserve to be human. But my child is innocent. I do not want him to suffer anymore. I want him to become a noble and inherit all my property so he can live well in the future. Even if this child refuses to acknowledge me or inherit my property, as long as he is well, I will die without regrets."
"I know you despise a scum like me, Moon Pavilion Mistress, but the child is innocent. I beg you, please take him in!"
As Charles spoke, he suddenly slammed his head against the ground before Yue Hua.
Every time his head struck the floor, it rang out with a "Duang! Duang!"
After only three hard kowtows, his forehead had split open, blood flowing down his face.
Yue Hua was completely stunned by Charles's actions.
In the brief moment she was dazed, no more than three breaths, Charles had already kowtowed another five times in succession.
Each one was even harder than the last.
"Enough!"
Seeing Charles's actions, Yue Hua shouted.
But Charles seemed not to hear her and continued banging his head wildly, as if possessed.
"I said, enough."
As Yue Hua spoke, a halo appeared around her, enveloping Charles and Su Yi.
After being enveloped by the circle of light, Charles knelt blankly on the ground and stopped his crazed actions. Blood slid down his face from his forehead and dripped onto the stone floor.
Su Yi, however, frowned slightly after being enveloped by the halo.
After the strange circle of light swept over him, Su Yi felt completely relaxed. Never before had his heart been so peaceful.
Su Yi stared blankly at Yue Hua as she rose to her feet, light radiating from her body, and inwardly marked the woman before him as extremely dangerous.
