The two children taking part in the trial each held a short sword. Yet judging by the awkward way they raised their blades, neither had likely ever formally practiced swordsmanship. They could only be treating them as ordinary weapons for self-defense.
They were even younger than Jiang Pu and had only recently completed the step of drawing spiritual energy into their bodies. The elder brother had just opened seven Qi Meridians, while the younger sister had opened only five.
After observing for a while, they realized that the three exotic beasts that had left earlier had not returned. Moreover, they had faintly heard the roars of Six-Legged Jackals from afar.
This could not help but make the two wonder whether their earlier cries for help had been answered, and whether someone was now rushing over to aid them.
Otherwise, there was simply no explanation for why this pack of exotic beasts had suddenly become so timid, shrinking back and hesitating to advance.
"Little sister, have you gathered enough spiritual energy? Come with me and charge in for another kill."
The older boy's thoughts raced, and he then said to his sister, "These exotic beasts have keen hearing. If we fight them now, we can draw their attention and make things easier for the person coming to help."
"Yes, I understand!"
The siblings were sharp-witted as well. Realizing that someone might be coming to their aid, they immediately raised their swords again and fought shoulder to shoulder, breaking through in one direction as they once more became entangled with the pack of six-legged beasts.
About a quarter of an hour later, Jiang Pu arrived near the rock wall. By then, the Six-Legged Jackals' attention was entirely fixed on the siblings.
After watching the two fight the beasts, she settled her mind.
