Night, at Ayato's home.
Ayato stood by the window, looking out at the scenery. In truth, his thoughts had already completely turned to the Uchiha Clan Massacre.
Compared to his home, the Uchiha Clan compound was much farther from the school. But Sasuke had surely already returned to the compound by now.
In other words, the Uchiha turmoil had already begun before this.
Even though Ayato had previously decided not to get involved, now that the moment had come, he could not help wondering whether he could take advantage of the chaos to obtain a pair of Sharingan. He was not asking for much; he would be satisfied with a pair of one-tomoe Sharingan.
Although his goal was to avoid using organs that did not belong to his own body, this was, after all, a world famous as the legend of eyes.
No matter what, as one of the three great eyes, the Sharingan was naturally immensely tempting. Even if Ayato did not use them later, carefully studying them would still be worthwhile.
But the problem was Root ahead of him and Obito behind him. Even if he wanted to take advantage of the chaos, with his current strength, he would just be courting death.
Even a one-tomoe Uchiha could not possibly be a complete nobody within the clan. There might be some hidden beneath the surface, but there could not be many.
So, finding an obscure Uchiha who had awakened a one-tomoe Sharingan was basically impossible.
Ayato gradually calmed those thoughts he had long known were unrealistic. He sighed. He had considered it before, but when faced with the temptation of the Sharingan, who could guarantee they would not be moved?
Ayato was only able to calm down so quickly because he knew the Sharingan simply was not suitable for him right now.
After all, even if he truly got the Sharingan, he could only preserve them. With his Chakra, he could not use them at all. And he could not simply install eyes like those people in the later stages; he would need a trustworthy medical professional to transplant the Sharingan for him.
As for preservation, Ayato could mix the appropriate solution himself. But where would he keep them? At home? If they were discovered, he would be dead.
Most importantly, his Chakra was fundamentally insufficient to support the use of the Sharingan. He did not have an Uchiha physique, so the Sharingan could not be deactivated. Even if he did not actively use their abilities, they would constantly consume his Chakra.
Never mind how he would hide the Sharingan. Just after transplanting them, his Chakra would definitely be insufficient. And the result of insufficient Chakra could be seen from Nagato, who used the Rinnegan.
Nagato's skeletal appearance was truly terrifying. And he was an Uzumaki, with naturally tenacious vitality. If it were Ayato, even if he only had to sustain the Sharingan, he would probably not merely become skin and bones. It was more likely he would be drained to death outright.
Finally, a trustworthy medical professional? Forget it. Ayato definitely could not find one at the moment. As for transplanting them himself... he was not that fierce yet.
So even if, by some miraculous stroke of luck, he obtained a pair of one-tomoe Sharingan, he would still have to preserve them until he found a trustworthy medical professional. And when it came time for the transplant, he would still have to consider the Chakra issue.
With all those problems piled together, he might as well wash up and sleep. There was no point thinking about it any further. His life was more important, so he should give up on it already! Ayato silently repeated to himself, dismissing those unrealistic thoughts.
Rather than think about it now, it would be more practical to wait until he was strong enough to steal a pair of Sharingan from Danzo. Maybe he could even get some Hashirama Cells while he was at it...
After tonight, there would only be a few Uchiha left in this world, perhaps even fewer than the Uzumaki. Before their clan was wiped out, the Uzumaki seemed to have scattered some of their members.
"Tomorrow, Sasuke will be alone too." Ayato murmured, then suddenly paused. When he watched the anime, he did not like overthinking things. But now that he was in the Naruto world, he had no choice but to consider many matters.
Why was Sasuke the only one left? Even if Konoha could only publicly allow Sasuke to remain, that did not mean every Uchiha had to die. Even Danzo should not choose to drain the pond dry, should he?
Wouldn't leaving Sasuke out in the open while keeping some others captive for experiments better serve their interests? It might even better serve Konoha's interests.
So had Itachi considered this and decided to be thorough because he did not want his clansmen turned into test subjects? But the Uchiha would probably curse him out for that. You were worried about that, so you killed us all?
Or was Obito more likely responsible? White Zetsu?
After tonight, the Third Hokage and Danzo would probably both feel that things had gotten somewhat out of control...
Still, none of that had anything to do with him. After the Uchiha Clan Massacre, the village would probably return to its usual peace after a while, and he could return to his former way of life.
He would need to keep escorting Ino for a while longer. It would be better to stop only after the aftermath in the village had died down. If he stopped immediately, the reason he had given before would lose its validity.
The Uchiha Clan had been massacred, but one of Konoha's great clans being wiped out overnight would definitely cause turmoil for some time. The village would not be particularly stable either.
Without the Uchiha Military Police Force, public security might even worsen for a time. If he suddenly stopped escorting Ino at a time like this, then the reason he had given before would definitely not hold up.
If people suspected that he knew about the Uchiha Clan Massacre because of it, the possibility might be small, but it would be disastrous if they did suspect him.
As for Sinai, after today, she should return to secretly watching over him as before, stopping only once the village had cleared away the turbulent aftermath of the massacre.
As Ayato pondered, he closed the window. After settling his thoughts that had drifted to the Uchiha, he began to rest.
The next day, just as expected, the entire village erupted. The Ninja Academy was no exception, since there had been quite a few Uchiha students there.
Sasuke Uchiha from their class had been among them, and he did not come to school that day either.
Many little girls who admired Sasuke had completely lost the heart to study, worriedly staring at his empty seat.
Some were even crying their eyes out, leaving Ayato speechless. Even Iruka was helpless. He had been deeply shocked when he learned of the incident.
Then he quickly thought of Sasuke and immediately went to find the Hokage. The Hokage's answer made him breathe a sigh of relief: Sasuke had luckily escaped disaster, but because he had suffered psychological trauma, he needed to rest for a while before returning to school.
However, the Hokage told him to keep this matter secret for a time, fearing that Sasuke's recuperation would be disturbed. Thus, Iruka did not know how to comfort these grieving female students.
As a result, class was basically impossible to continue. Fortunately, Sasuke had always been the cold and aloof type, and there were not actually many people who had been close to him.
After one or two periods of crying and commotion, order in the classroom gradually returned to normal. Even though some were still upset, it no longer affected anything.
Shikamaru looked at the empty seat and recalled the scenes he had witnessed around the village some time ago. He could not help clicking his tongue. The information he had gathered through observation had been too limited. He had only been able to determine that something major was about to happen, but he had never imagined it would be on this scale. The Uchiha had actually been wiped out by a Rogue Ninja...
As for Ayato, he continued reading the book in his hands as if no one else was around. Since he knew the original story, he knew Sasuke would definitely be fine.
To Ayato, Sasuke absolutely could not come to harm. After all, those two overpowered monsters were the foundation that let him take things so easy. No matter how far he himself ultimately grew, the two of them would always be there as a safety net.
Still, the next time he saw Sasuke, he should finally see that familiar Sasuke from the original story. Ayato sighed as he looked at Sasuke's empty seat.
