In short, the situation had become somewhat impossible to back down from.
After separating following their first clash, Randolph forced himself to say, "Mr. Jiang, this is all a misunderstanding. How about we stop and talk it over?"
"I have nothing to discuss with you!" Jiang Chengbai's attitude was unyielding. "This is Hanxia Territory. Your Glory Legion's Mercenaries showed up here—do I need to spell out what you came for? You dared to assassinate my nephew? Then stay in this land forever!"
Brandishing the Overlord Spear in his hand, Jiang Chengbai charged forward, looking ready to fight Randolph Until Death.
Jiang Zhe hid within the crown of a Chinese Wingnut Landscape Tree, watching the battle unfolding in the sky.
With his current Neural Reaction Speed, he could only make out two blurred figures, like dazzling meteors constantly colliding, separating, then colliding again!
The battle's range affected nearly half the district!
Uncle is keeping Randolph tied down so he can't suddenly attack me!
Otherwise, even with the Black God Set on me, I definitely couldn't withstand a casual strike from a Councilor Level expert!
If Randolph truly attacked him, Jiang Zhe had already planned his escape route.
He would imitate Luo Feng and drill straight down into the underground rock layer.
Although Planetary Level experts could also burrow using the Black God Set, underground was clearly a Psychic Master's domain. He would be far more nimble there!
Even if he was a whole major realm below his opponent.
Jiang Zhe withdrew his attention from the sky and turned toward the uninvited guests approaching from the northwest.
Two "giant grasshoppers" bounced across the tops of buildings, rapidly closing in on the street where he was hiding. Their target was clear—they obviously had some way of confirming his Positioning.
"Two War Gods?"
Jiang Zhe licked his dry lips, a savage glint appearing in his eyes.
Ten throwing knives dropped from the leather pouch at his waist, plunging into the ground by the tree pit. They traveled through the soil and positioned themselves at points where the two War Gods might land.
"Haha... Kazong, look at that stupid kid. He's just hiding there like an idiot, not even knowing to run."
"But where could he run in front of us? The Deputy Commander has already tied down that Councilor. Looks like we'll complete this mission easily."
Yanpu, the bald Black War God, laughed as he began considering how to spend this reward.
"Hehe, my son is a Junior Battle General now. Once he uses that portion of Jade Marrow, he'll definitely have a chance of becoming a War God in the future!"
The Black War God with cornrows offered a few congratulations, then did not forget to remind him to focus on the mission.
"Yanpu, focus. We can slowly talk about those good things when we get back and drink."
"Kill this little brat first. Just thinking about snuffing out a genius feels incredibly satisfying!"
The two exchanged smiles, their faces filled with cruelty.
As Mercenaries from the Sinful Continent, what little humanity they possessed had long since thinned to almost nothing.
The two jumped down from the rooftop of a residential building over thirty meters high.
Jiang Zhe easily judged their landing spot—it was on the street directly in front of him. He then put on a "panicked" expression, sprang from the crown of the Chinese Wingnut Landscape Tree, and fled in the direction away from them as though in desperate confusion.
"Haha, where do you think you can run in front of a War God? Die!"
Yanpu let out a booming roar. Nearly a hundred tons of brute force erupted in an instant as he hurled the massive greatsword in his hand, nearly two palms wide.
A vicious grin hung on his face, as though he could already see Jiang Zhe being cut in half at the waist.
A sonic boom rang out behind him. Jiang Zhe realized this was his favorite kind of trick—throwing away his weapon. He had not expected to lure out his opponent's weapon so easily.
"Did you seriously fail to evolve properly? How could you do something this stupid?"
The Black God Set had long been hidden beneath the lining of his Grade-S Combat Suit.
Like a diving suit, it tightly wrapped his entire body, with even a thin black film reaching beneath his cheeks.
10 Times Force Amplification, burst!
In almost a thousandth of a second, Jiang Zhe twisted at the waist, suddenly swept up his spear, spun around, and struck with a reverse moon-gazing blow.
The swinging spearhead lashed against the blade, and two immense forces collided with a thunderous boom!
Jiang Zhe still held the advantage in strength. The greatsword, like duckweed without roots, was sent flying and smashed into a nearby high-rise, disappearing from sight.
"What? Could he be a War God?"
"Just now... how is that possible?"
Their first exchange ended in an instant.
The two War Gods were still falling. They had only just landed with two loud bangs, smashing two craters into the asphalt, when the absurd scene that had just unfolded left them stunned.
"Since you dared to come, die here!"
Dozens of meters away, the delighted smile on Jiang Zhe's face was clearly visible to the two War Gods, yet he gave them almost no time to think.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh...
Ten silver streaks shot from the ground beneath their feet like silver lightning.
Several times the speed of sound!
In perhaps only a thousandth of a second, they would have "intimate contact" with the two men.
But War Gods were War Gods after all. They possessed nearly monstrous Neural Reaction Speed, and both their movement techniques had certainly surpassed the Subtle Realm. With only small twists of their bodies, they could dodge with maximum efficiency.
But they could dodge one blade, dodge two—but how could they withstand five throwing knives firing at once?
The bald Yanpu was a Junior War God and slightly weaker. He tilted his head to avoid one throwing knife, only for another to gouge out a chunk of flesh from the left side of his neck.
Without a weapon, he could only hastily knock away one throwing knife with his arm. His Combat Suit was cut open, and blood sprayed everywhere as if it cost nothing.
There was more!
The fourth throwing knife broke through the vulnerable spot at the back of Yanpu's neck, drilled into his head, shredded his Brain Tissue, and burst out through the top of his skull.
Yanpu's mouth hung wide open. Blood flowed from all seven orifices as he dropped weakly to his knees, the light fading from his eyes.
Junior War God Yanpu, dead!
Beside him, Kazong faced the same life-and-death crisis.
He narrowly dodged two throwing knives and used his blade to block another two, but the sole remaining knife pierced through the vulnerable spot beneath his right ribs.
The plain blade swept upward.
His sword-wielding right arm flew high into the air, blood spraying wildly as Mid-Level War God Kazong let out a miserable scream.
Jiang Zhe hesitated for a moment, not daring to show off. He used Psychic Power to guide a throwing knife into Kazong's mouth, blowing apart his head.
Mid-Level War God Kazong, dead!
An Apprentice Rank 6 Psychic Master, with the true combat strength of Apprentice Level Seven (2x genes), an 8x Psychic Power Amplitude, instantly slaughtered Apprentice Level Eight martial artists!
An utterly ordinary case of Fighting Across Ranks—this was what a Psychic Master was!
High in the air, the two Councilors were locked in battle, but they were also keeping part of their attention on the fight below.
From Jiang Zhe's "frantic escape," to his turning around to strike back, to him casually dealing with the two War Gods as though chopping melons and vegetables, the entire sequence sent Randolph's emotions soaring and plunging... plunging.
He was completely dumbfounded.
Heavens!
What kind of monster was that down below?
By the Jiang Family's bizarre family rules, that brat had practiced martial arts for barely over a month and already possessed the strength to slaughter War Gods?
And he was even the rarest and most powerful kind—a Psychic Master?
Randolph's heart went cold. He swung his door-sized greatsword against Jiang Chengbai's attack, using the recoil to retreat rapidly.
At the same time, he shouted, "Stop! I, Randolph, admit defeat this time. I'm willing to compensate you, and I'm willing to reveal the mastermind behind this!"
"No need! You dying here is the best compensation!" Jiang Chengbai rejected him decisively, brandishing the Overlord Spear as he closed in again.
This was no longer just about venting Jiang Zhe's anger.
The longer Jiang Chengbai fought, the fiercer his killing intent became.
After all, he was no refined gentleman. When he first made his name, he had loved nothing more than using a single Overlord Spear to shatter his opponents' skulls.
As his first battle after advancing to Councilor Level, he desperately wanted to kill a Councilor. That was the obsession of a martial fanatic and a born killer.
He had said during the day that Jiang Zhe was too bloodthirsty, but actually... there was something wrong with this whole family.
The door-sized greatsword and the Overlord Spear collided once more!
"You want to kill me? You can't do it!" Randolph still had confidence.
"You can't? What if you add me?"
Suddenly, a black shadow burst from the ground beneath Randolph, and intense cold instantly filled the entire battlefield.
"Ice? You're Jiang Lie?"
"Damn it! I nearly forgot about you! What are you trying to do?"
Randolph finally panicked. Sensing the aura of death, he shouted fiercely despite his inner fear, "No Councilor has ever died in human infighting! If you dare set this precedent, First Chairman Hong will not let you off!"
"Stop now. It will benefit both sides!"
Even as he spoke, Randolph swung his door-sized greatsword to meet the Eight Treasures Alligator Dragon Spear, blocking the old man's sudden assassination attempt.
When their weapons collided, the overwhelming force transmitted through the sword made Randolph's expression change drastically.
"How is this possible? I'm wearing the Black God Set... How many times is your force amplification?"
The old man said coldly, "Take your questions to hell!"
With a twist of his wrist, the long spear stirred.
Using the technique of deflecting a thousand pounds with four ounces, he knocked the door-sized greatsword from Randolph's hand.
Then, with lightning speed, he thrust out a Realm-Level Stabbing Spear at his peak state.
It was as if frigid air filled heaven and earth, making Randolph feel as though he had fallen into an ice pit. His movements became sluggish, and he could only watch as the spear tip expanded before his eyes.
"Luckily, I have the Black God—"
The thought came to an abrupt end. The excruciating pain and hollow sensation in his chest left Randolph's face filled with disbelief.
The Eight Treasures Alligator Dragon Spear had pierced straight through his chest!
"What... is this? My Black God..."
"Everyone who has seen this has died. You'll be the same." The old man withdrew his spear and spoke softly.
"Holy shit!"
Jiang Zhe, who had witnessed the scene, could not help blurting out a curse.
His grandfather and uncle did not understand the grading of metals in the universe, nor did they understand what this scene meant. But Jiang Zhe understood perfectly well.
The highest-grade F-class metal could cut through the Black God Set; even the lowest Third-Rank Psychic Weapon could not Break Defense against the Black God Set.
The Third Councilor, the Ice and Snow Emperor, had once used the Black God Set to trap the Sky-Escaping Shuttle. (Total nonsense.)
The status of that alloy spear rose another level in Jiang Zhe's mind.
With his heart shattered, Randolph only gasped for a few breaths before the light vanished from his eyes. The old man withdrew his spear, and the corpse fell from the air.
The old man caught Randolph's corpse, flew over to Jiang Zhe while carrying it, tossed it onto the ground, then sliced open the Combat Suit with his spear and began feeling around the body.
"Grandpa, there's a hidden pocket in the lining by his right ribs." Jiang Zhe scanned it with Psychic Power and reminded him.
The old man found the right location and pulled out a test tube as thick as a little finger.
It was as thick as a little finger and a decimeter long, containing one-third of a tube of viscous jade-green liquid.
"Grandpa, what is this?" Jiang Zhe already had a guess in his heart.
"Jade Marrow. There are three portions in here. The two War Gods you killed definitely have some too. Together, there are five portions. The public price is 150 billion, but the actual cost should not even be half that."
Five portions of Jade Marrow?!
Jiang Zhe looked again at the dead Black muscular man on the ground and immediately found him much more pleasing to the eye.
This Councilor was an international friend!
Before he could scan the other two War God corpses with Psychic Power, he saw that his uncle had already walked over carrying two test tubes.
Jiang Chengbai said solemnly, "Jade Marrow is a specialty of Hanxia Nation. The destination of every portion can be traced. There are five portions here. With such a large quantity, Jia Yi needs to give the Jiang Family an explanation!"
"Jia Yi hasn't had it easy either." The old man sighed, then made two calls in front of them.
The first call informed the other party that they could close the net.
The person on the other end seemed to be Jia Yi, whom Jiang Chengbai had just denounced. This matter involved a higher level of power struggle.
Jiang Zhe suddenly understood. Using a phone call to locate the coordinates of a communication watch was indeed not something an ordinary force could accomplish.
His grandfather only mentioned a few things briefly and cryptically.
After that large-scale battle in the twenty-sixth year, the people of this land had finally gained a chance to catch their breath.
But rebuilding order was not so easy.
The old clan forces yearned to regain power and achieve the feat of having amateurs command professionals. After shedding blood and sacrificing their lives, the new martial artist forces were unwilling to be ruled once again.
A war without smoke began.
The former naturally suffered defeat after defeat, but they were not completely eradicated.
The old clans began shrinking their influence and picked up the economic leg that had been interrupted as a substitute, developing into giants capable of influencing the nation and preserving their status.
This assassination attempt on him happened because those people realized that their "new leg" was about to be broken again, driving them into desperate action.
The second call informed the other party that the mission was complete and urged them to transfer the remaining payment as soon as possible.
After Jiang Zhe carefully learned the details of the transaction, the way he looked at his grandfather immediately changed.
When he looked at Randolph's corpse on the ground again, his eyes were full of pity.
This unlucky fellow had been treated as dead from the moment he set out. His head could be exchanged for an S-Class alloy weapon production line, as well as five portions of Jade Marrow.
The one who had placed the bounty was none other than the Commander of the Glory Legion!
Jiang Zhe and his uncle stared at each other. Like looking into a mirror, it was obvious that both had been kept in the dark.
The two gradually sorted out the sequence of events—the Wang Family had hired the Glory Legion to assassinate Jiang Zhe, but the Glory Legion's Commander had immediately sold the information to the old man, then used the Wang Family's reward to hire the old man to kill their own ambitious Deputy Commander, Randolph.
Once it was done, both the Jiang Family and the Glory Legion would have better futures. In this three-party deal, the Wang Family was the only loser.
Jiang Zhe drew in a breath of cold air, unable to help marveling at how deep the schemes of the human world ran!
"After this, those people at the Europa HR Alliance headquarters will probably laugh their faces off."
Jiang Zhe looked at his grandfather in surprise. How had the HR Alliance gotten involved again?
The old man continued explaining, "Some time ago, the HR Alliance gave more commercial resources to our Jiang Family. Aside from showing how highly they regarded you and me, they also wanted to provoke the Wang Family into fighting us. That became the fuse for this incident."
"We swallowed a slow poison coated in a thick layer of sugar."
"After the Wang Family had one leg broken—politics—they became especially concerned about this new leg—economics. Whoever dared reach out to divide the cake was touching a dragon's reverse scale, and would inevitably trigger their frenzied retaliation."
"As you can see, the poison took effect, but we successfully removed it."
