"Gather! Large creatures are approaching!"
The Kobold warriors quickly gathered around the Chieftain, raising their shields and setting up their spears.
"Warrior! Climb that tree and take a look!"
"Yes!"
A Kobold warrior, having received the order, put down his longsword and shield. His sharp claws gripped the rough bark of the nearby tree, and he rapidly ascended, standing on a branch to gaze into the distance.
Through the gaps between the trees, he glimpsed a scene far away. He saw a massive figure flash by, carrying a log on its shoulder. A memory of a terrifying creature that roamed the forest surfaced, and his pupils contracted.
"Chieftain! Ogre! It's an Ogre! The Ogre is back with Goblins!"
"Ogre?!"
Clark felt a sense of foreboding.
Ogres, as their name suggested, were terrifying, man-eating demons.
Ogres were powerful humanoid creatures with low intelligence but immense strength. Adult Ogres typically stood over 3.5 meters tall, taller than a single story, with some exceptional individuals reaching an astonishing five meters.
Their strength was enough to topple houses, their skin was thick and tougher than old cowhide, covered in a thick layer of fat, and they possessed a frenzied fighting will that lasted until death. All of this inspired despair.
Clark swallowed. If it were before, he would immediately lead his kin back into the mines, which Ogres couldn't enter. But now...
"Master, what should we do?"
In the distant dragon's lair, Jose frowned. Facing a powerful enemy, the Kobold Chieftain's shortcomings were immediately apparent.
He had weak stress tolerance; he was fine in favorable situations but tended to retreat when encountering difficulties.
However, avoiding powerful enemies was a creature's survival instinct, and he couldn't expect all his familiars to be fearless warriors.
Thinking this, a figure appeared in the Red Dragon's mind—Hasa Bloodclaw.
In comparison, Hasa Bloodclaw's excellence became even more evident.
"What are you panicking about! You are my familiar! Do you not even have the courage to fight an Ogre?!"
Clark's body trembled as he snapped back to reality.
That's right!
Although Ogres were powerful and could overwhelm most Initial Stage professionals with their physical prowess alone, they did not exceed the Initial Stage. As an Initial Stage Warrior himself, and having been strengthened by the Dragon Vein through the Familiar Contract, his combat power was not inferior to an Ogre's.
Dogmatism was a killer!
Clark was annoyed. He understood that his performance just now had cost him points in his master's eyes, and he grew increasingly frustrated.
Now, only by taking the Ogre's head could he prove himself and salvage his image in his master's eyes.
With this thought, Clark made up his mind.
"Warriors! Prepare for battle! Let's take the Ogre's head and bring it back as an offering to our master!"
"I don't like this gift at all ╮(﹀_﹀)╭," Jose thought to himself, complaining internally. Ogre heads couldn't be eaten and weren't valuable; what was the point of having one?
On the other side, under Clark's command, the Kobold warriors began preparing for combat. They formed groups of three: two warriors with sword and shield, and one with a spear, dispersing into the forest in small units.
"Hmm, not entirely hopeless," Jose's frown eased slightly.
When dealing with enemies like Goblins, who were not large in size and lacked heavy weapons, forming a defensive line with shields arranged in a single row could effectively reduce friendly losses.
However, against an Ogre, this tactic wouldn't work.
Ogres possessed immense strength and used un-grown saplings as weapons. With one swing, even if the shield was of good quality, a Kobold's slender arms couldn't withstand the impact force capable of destroying houses. Therefore, dispersing to avoid a massacre was the wise choice.
Not long after, the Ogre appeared within the sight of the Kobold warriors.
It was a colossal creature, nearly four meters tall, carrying a log as thick as a utility pole on its shoulder. Its footsteps made the ground tremble, and it was clearly not to be trifled with.
The scattered Goblins regained their courage and followed behind the Ogre. They barely reached the Ogre's knees, making one worry they would be accidentally trampled to death.
"As expected."
Seeing the Goblins trailing behind the Ogre, Jose understood the cause and effect. He had seen similar situations in Ergou's memories.
Wandering Ogres occasionally enslaved weak Goblin tribes and brought them along for hunts. The prey for these hunts were other monster tribes around the Goblin settlements. Both enemy and friendly corpses would become food for the Ogre.
However, such Ogre-led tribes rarely lasted long. Ogres were simply too voracious eaters. Without sufficient food, the Goblins became their meals, and within a month, the Goblins would either be dead or have fled.
Ogres, Kobolds, and Goblins were not species skilled in language, so when they met, it was straight to fighting.
Roar!
The Ogre opened its mouth and roared, forming visible sound waves around its mouth that made the surrounding leaves tremble.
Immediately, it removed the log from its shoulder, gripped one end, and dragged the other along the ground as it charged. Its massive body was like a rampaging truck, with the Goblins yelping and following behind.
"Charge!"
Clark Greyscale led the Kobold warriors to meet the charging enemies.
The Ogre had long strides and moved quickly, but the short-legged Goblins couldn't keep up, and the two quickly became separated. The Kobold side, however, maintained a consistent pace.
Clark met the charging Ogre, while the other Kobold warriors acted according to plan, flanking the Ogre to attack the Goblins behind it.
"Your opponent is me!"
Seeing the Ogre about to turn and attack the tribesmen it had bypassed, Clark threw a stone he had prepared earlier. The stone hit the Ogre's head, causing no substantial damage, but it was enough to enrage the unintelligent brute.
"Hanuer will drink your blood dry!" the Ogre roared in anger, raising its hands high, wielding a wooden club thick enough to be a house pillar, and smashing it down fiercely at the small figure holding a spear in front of it.
Clark dodged nimbly. The club, whistling through the air, smashed into the ground with a bang, creating a long, narrow pit.
Inside the distant dragon's lair, Jose observed the battle between his Familiar and the Ogre. The first-person perspective was incredibly thrilling, with thick logs flying through the air and the strong wind churning up the fallen leaves on the ground.
Meanwhile, Clark weaved and dodged flexibly. Even with the Dragon Vein's enhancement, being hit by the Ogre's massive club would turn him into a smear of meat.
However, it wasn't easy for the Ogre to hit the Dragonkin Kobold.
The Dragon Vein transformation not only strengthened the Kobold's body but also his reflexes, allowing Clark to find opportunities to counterattack from time to time, thrusting his spear and making the Ogre yelp in pain.
The Familiar rolled on the ground, and Jose's vision followed, the physical and visual disorientation from the shared vision making him feel slightly unwell.
He shook his head and disconnected the visual link.
"Phew~, kids fighting."
If he were in Clark's position...
Jose imagined an Ogre standing before him, raising its club and poised to smash down.
What would happen?
First, he would catch the Ogre's swinging club with his bare hands, then grip it, and crush it with all his might, like squeezing a soft tomato.
However, while the Ogre wasn't intelligent, it wouldn't be foolish enough to swing a club at a Red Dragon.
"Report the results to me after the fight. Also, there's no need to bring back the Ogre's head."
