Though he spoke coherently and negotiated terms normally, Richard could detect in his words the pain of someone yearning for release, as well as the madness of someone who had glimpsed hope of liberation.
Richard could almost certainly say that if he truly took part in that experiment, the chances of its success would be vanishingly small.

His clones were of little concern. What mattered most to him was the increase in defensive level, which would greatly hinder the speed at which he could escape the maze.
