The Eye Demon Civilization differed from the other civilizations in this cluster. By all normal measures, their historical progression had been one step ahead of the rest.
They had already passed through the Great Expansion, the explosion in the number of rulers, the struggle among leaders, division, and then reunification—a whole series of complex processes.
If the Civilization Devourer had not appeared out of nowhere, the Eye Demon Civilization's next step would have been to declare war on the Gods Civilization, then attack the Spirit Desert Civilization while tangling with the Abyss.
Step by step, they would have unified the entire civilization cluster.
But because of the Civilization Devourer's arrival, everything had changed.
Faced with this monster that had already fixed its gaze upon them, they could only throw all their strength into a fight to the death.
"You need not stand on ceremony, Lord Miracle." The Eye Demon Leader's voice sounded gentle and warm. "I can see that you are more than simply a leader.
"I think that in the current Civilization Alliance, you are the one who truly calls the shots."
"You could say that."
Richard did not deny it, openly admitting the point.
"I can see that you have no interest in power, nor in those headache-inducing struggles for profit."
The Eye Demon Leader looked at Richard with a hint of scrutiny in his gaze, though it was not excessive.
After examining Richard once, he continued, "That may not be a good trait for a leader, but for the leader of an alliance, it is a reassuring quality.
"The Eyeball Demon Clan answers to me. But I wonder, Lord Miracle, are you willing to accept us poor wretches trapped in a corner?"
"Oh? What reason would I have not to?"
Richard raised a brow, a trace of
