Background / History
Sakura lived under the Matou family’s control, with Zouken treating her as the family’s true heir. An Imprint Worm replaced part of her nerves, enforcing obedience to Zouken and contributing to her long-term suffering. She endured this while subconsciously accepting an expected future with Shinji as her only tolerable fate. 2 29 32
Before Zouken’s defeat, Sakura interpreted Shinji’s coldness as rejection while continuing to hope that he cared for her. She sought to improve their relationship by learning housework and cooking, and later joined the Archery Club after Mitsuzuri recruited her. 3 15 21
During the confrontation in the Matou insect repository, Zouken manipulated Sakura into stabbing Shinji and ordered her to use her Command Spells against him. Shinji then extracted the Imprint Worm from her body, freeing her from Zouken’s direct control. He healed her injuries and used a specially made ice candy to clear remaining Imprint Worms while restoring damage to her body, nerves, and Magic Circuits. 28 29
Once she understood that Shinji had spent years secretly preparing to save her, Sakura finally released her suppressed emotions and began relying on him openly. Though freed, she initially struggled to believe her new life was real. 31 39
Sakura chose to withdraw from magecraft despite retaining the Magic Circuits developed through the worms alongside her original circuits. Her magical recovery was expected to take a long time, and Shinji concealed her unusual magical attribute to protect her from a possible Sealing Designation by the Mage’s Association. 34 299

Personality
Before her liberation, Sakura was timid, humble, and deeply conditioned to endure suffering in silence. She sought Shinji’s attention through domestic work and held onto the belief that even his performed affection was enough for her. 3 15 32
After Zouken’s control was removed, she became openly affectionate and dependent on Shinji, frequently seeking physical closeness and comfort. Her recovery also brought out greater confidence, initiative, jealousy, and a willingness to assert herself when she disagreed with him. 31 39 45 201
