Guy's examination went relatively quickly. Palpation was enough to pinpoint the fracture. Shizuko pressed along his ribs one by one, and when she reached the fourth, his abdominal muscles tightened, but he made no sound.
Shizuko wrote him an X-ray order and told him to get a scan to confirm the extent of the fracture.
Finally, it was Chisen's turn.
Shizuko walked over to his bed. Rather than picking up an instrument, she stood beside him and looked at him.
Chisen sat on the hospital bed, his cane propped against its edge. His hands rested on his knees. His left hand was still shaking. His right was better, though his fingers still twitched involuntarily now and then.
"Tell me yourself." Shizuko held the chart against her chest. "Neurological symptoms, medication history, autonomic nervous system status."
Chisen lifted his hands from his knees and turned his palms upward so Shizuko could see the extent of his fingers' tremors.
Then, in a steady voice that sounded like a case presentation, he said, "Four days ago, I voluntarily took the Neural Stimulant at approximately twice the standard dose.
"Neural activation lasted approximately fifteen minutes after ingestion, during which I performed high-difficulty chakra manipulation and extreme physical exertion.
"After the drug wore off, I developed a high fever, peaking at 39.6 degrees. It persisted for approximately thirty-six hours before dropping to 37.8 this morning.
"Current symptoms: intention tremors in both hands, delayed healing of the blade wound on my right leg, mild muscle atrophy in my left thigh, and an automatic protective shutdown of my chakra pathways.
"Estimated neurological recalibration time: approximately one to two days for motor function recovery, and eight to twelve weeks for chakra function recovery."
Shizuko listened, her fingers moving quickly across the chart as she recorded all the key
