Guy never read theory books, but he remembered a point Chisen had made in his analysis of fragment resonance after the battle at Pheasant Feather Valley: when two high-density chakra fields of the same frequency overlapped at close range, interference occurred at their boundary, and the chakra density at the very center of the interference zone dropped to zero.

Chisen had been analyzing resonant interference between fragments. Guy had applied it to interference between the Jinchuriki's protective membranes.

"The vacuum zone only lasts a fraction of a second.

Once two people's membranes activate and their chakra fields overlap, the vacuum zone appears.

Before that zone disappears, a third person's membrane automatically extends to fill it-but that takes about a tenth of a second.

In the instant before it finishes filling the gap, the two people's chakra barriers don't exist at that spot." Chisen stood up behind cover and twirled his cane once in his hand. "You listened to my analysis at Pheasant Feather Valley, and you've remembered it all this time."

"I remember anything useful." Guy began removing his weighted gear piece by piece-the steel chest plate, the wrist guards, and the lead weights inside his leg wraps.

He set each piece on the ground as he took it off. His movements weren't fast, but every piece landed heavily-the dull thud of lead hitting rubble echoed through the pass several times.

Once he finished, the sweat-soaked patches on his bodysuit were only half as extensive as usual. Without the weights, he was nearly twenty kilograms lighter.

He bounced twice in place, bending his knees deeply. As his calf muscles tightened, they stretched his bodysuit enough to reveal diamond-shaped patterns in the fabric.

"Tenten.
