Background / History
Moonlight Pavilion and Du Bai's Disciple
Xue Qinghe initially appears at Moonlight Pavilion as the Heaven Dou Empire's eldest prince and Madam Tang's disciple. He approaches Bibi Dong, prompting a confrontation with Du Bai; despite his anger, he attempts to retain a refined and noble manner. 71 74
After Du Bai overwhelms him with Soul Douluo pressure, Xue Qinghe submits, kowtows three times, and acknowledges Du Bai as his master. He further swears an oath upon his Swan Martial Soul, accepting the principle that he must treat his teacher as a father. 84 86 87
Du Bai selects him as a disciple partly for his imperial status and connections, intending to use his access to figures such as Dugu Bo and Ning Fengzhi. In return, Du Bai plans to elevate Xue Qinghe into a viable candidate for the Heaven Dou throne. 85 89
Martial Soul Evolution
Du Bai gives Xue Qinghe the Narcissus Jade Muscle Bone, an Immortal Product chosen for its affinity with the Swan Martial Soul's noble and pure qualities. 90 95
After absorbing it, Xue Qinghe rises from level 57 to level 61 and gains an additional pair of jade-white wings on his Swan Martial Soul. The evolution gives him the strongest Swan Martial Soul in the imperial family and transforms his previously casual attitude toward cultivation into a drive to prove himself. 97 173
Rise at Court
Seeking to distinguish himself from his brothers, Xue Qinghe volunteers to investigate the Advertisement Paper incident. When the court is expected to favor Xue Luochuan, he releases his evolved martial soul in the imperial hall despite the prohibition on using martial force there. 201 202
The reveal shifts court opinion. His four-winged Swan Martial Soul and level-61 cultivation surpass Xue Luochuan and Xue Haizang, earning Xue Ye's approval and securing him command of a Royal Guard unit to investigate the Advertisement Papers within seven days. 203 204 205
Spirit Bone Set Scheme
Xue Qinghe discovers that Du Bai is behind both the Advertisement Papers and the auctioned Spirit Bone Set. Torn between imperial duty and loyalty to his teacher, he chooses not to expose Du Bai or the Strength Clan and resolves to remain outwardly neutral during the investigation. 212 213
Knowing that the Jade Scale Dog Spirit Bone Set will disappear after its limited duration, he tries to prevent Heaven Dou from overpaying for it and suggests aiding the sects attacked by Spirit Hall instead. 258
When the Clear Sky Sect pressures Heaven Dou to relinquish custody of the set, Xue Qinghe agrees to hand it over. The Spirit Bone Set subsequently disappears while in Clear Sky Sect possession, allowing the Heaven Dou court to credit Xue Qinghe with helping the empire avoid a political disaster. 293 297 318 320
Sixth Soul Ring and Later Conduct
After the Spirit Bone Set affair, Xue Qinghe accompanies Dugu Bo to Sunset Forest and obtains his sixth soul ring, officially entering the Soul Emperor realm. He intends to test his newly acquired Sixth Soul Skill, Immortal Goose Emperor's Might, against the people who targeted Heqi Medical Hall. 424 425
During the Nine-Headed Fire Qilin crisis, Xue Qinghe is absent from the initial response. When questioned by Xue Ye, he quickly fabricates an explanation involving cultivation consolidation and claims that he had sold Clear Wind Manor to Spirit Hall's Holy Son; Xue Ye accepts the account. 508 510
Appearance
Xue Qinghe is described as handsome and imposing, with an elegant, refined bearing befitting an imperial prince. After absorbing the Narcissus Jade Muscle Bone, his noble aura and immaculate appearance become even more pronounced. 71 97 424
- His evolved Swan Martial Soul is pale gold with one pair of golden wings and one pair of jade-white wings. 203
- The martial soul emits golden and jade radiance and carries an aura of nobility and sanctity. 203
- He uses a golden Swan-shaped mask, with feathered wing designs extending from its eye corners, to avoid recognition by commoners. 193
Personality
Xue Qinghe initially lives as a carefree prince focused on poetry, prose, romance, and pleasure rather than court affairs or cultivation. His court reputation is poor enough that his decision to volunteer for an imperial investigation surprises both Xue Ye and the ministers. 193 201
His martial soul evolution gives him ambition. He trains intensely before the Royal Autumn Examination, demands that his sparring partners stop holding back, and becomes determined to compete for the throne. 173 193
He is capable of deference and loyalty toward Du Bai, consistently addressing Du Bai and Bibi Dong as “Teacher” and “Mistress.” He also shows political caution: he conceals his master-disciple relationship, protects Du Bai's secrets, and manipulates the Spirit Bone Set situation to shield Heaven Dou from greater losses. 195 213 293 510
His discipline is inconsistent. Though he can be diligent and strategic, he remains prone to indulgence and avoids responsibility when pressure rises, including disappearing after the Spirit Bone Set transfer and lying about his absence during the Nine-Headed Fire Qilin incident. 305 510
