The air was as fresh and clean as on the first day of creation.
A gentle breeze, like the hand of God, softly brushed across the golden wheat fields.
On a cool autumn night, a red pickup truck slowly drove along a road outside Kansas.
Endless wheat fields on both sides of the road rang with insects praising life, while fireflies drifted lazily like scattered stars.
The night sky overhead was filled with stars.
Melodious music from the car radio and the familiar scent of the fields, mingled with the fresh smell of soil after rain, poured into the vehicle.
Jonathan Kent, a new father, stretched his hand out the window to feel the shape of the wind, unable to hide the happy curve of his lips.
"Jonathan, this is God's gift to us."
Martha had only recently left the hospital after giving birth. Her face was still slightly pale, but as she looked at the adorable, quiet child in her arms as though he were the most precious treasure in the world, her eyes brimmed with an intense, unfading love. Her slightly hoarse voice was filled with tenderness.
"I hadn't wished for a child for long before he was born like an angel."
"God's gift? My mother is named Martha?"
Looking at his mother, David, now a baby, still could not believe what had happened. He felt somewhat helpless.
After waking up from a nap, he had become a baby.
In this life, his mother was named Martha, and his father was Jonathan Kent.
Not only that, but he had been born in a hospital called Metropolis General Hospital. What that meant was self-evident: he had transmigrated into the notoriously dark DC world and become the son of Superman's adoptive parents.
"Of course. This is God's promise. He'll certainly grow up healthy and strong..."
Jonathan looked at his wife through the rearview mirror and smiled, but he had only gotten halfway through his sentence.
Rumble!
Meteorites from the distant Universe suddenly tore through the night sky, their crimson flames illuminating half the heavens.
Meteorites of all sizes pounded the earth like rain, spraying dirt and rocks everywhere. Some even flew toward the town behind them.
One meteorite at the center of the shower crashed down, slicing rapidly across the road ahead like the finger of God and carving a ravine of fate that blocked the couple's path.
"Oh God!"
Jonathan slammed on the brakes. The tires screeched violently against the road, filling the air with the smell of burnt rubber. The truck skidded sideways, barely avoiding the ravine.
He immediately turned around.
"Martha, are you and the baby all right?"
"We're fine, Jonathan." When he braked, Martha had immediately shielded the child with her body. The baby in her arms was unharmed as well.
"The Son of Krypton had arrived on Earth with the meteorites, right on schedule."
The ground trembled amid deafening roars.
Even with such a commotion, the baby in her arms neither cried nor fussed. He was quiet and adorable, with soft, fair skin. He merely blinked his bright eyes and peered outside.
"Jonathan, look at our child. He isn't scared at all."
Martha's eyes sparkled with amazement.
Such unusual behavior only proved that this child was truly a gift from God.
Looking outside, David felt no fear. There was only anticipation in his heart.
"Host's birth detected. Beginning to load the Thanos template."
He recalled the emotionless electronic voice that had sounded by his ear when he was born.
After his birth, David had obtained the Thanos template and gained the formidable physique of the Eternals.
But he had initially fused with only thirty percent of it. To speed up the fusion, he needed Emotion Points.
"Emotion Points are accumulated by influencing the emotions of characters in the DC world who are either immensely powerful or play a pivotal role in the fate of the world."
He had already gained some Emotion Points from the couple.
"But the arrival of the Son of Krypton was only the beginning."
Through the car window, David's eyes shone as though he were searching for an enormous gold mine, scanning the smoke outside.
"Who in the DC world was more popular and powerful than Superman?"
And once the template reached one hundred percent fusion, the next template would unlock!
"What is that?"
Hearing his wife's voice, Jonathan did not turn around. Instead, he narrowed his eyes as a hard, black, indistinct outline in the smoke drew his attention.
"Martha, stay in the car with the baby. Don't get out."
Worried that there might be danger, he sternly instructed his wife before getting out alone to investigate.
Sparks from the meteorites still burned on the ground like scattered candle flames, illuminating the darkness.
When Jonathan saw what was in the dust and smoke, his eyes widened, and he froze in place.
"Jonathan? Jonathan?
What did you see?"
After calling out twice from the car without getting an answer, Martha grew worried. Carrying the baby, she got out and walked to his side.
Then she too froze in shock.
At the end of the deep trench that had plowed through the road and overturned the Soil lay a black spacecraft resembling a baby's cradle. It seemed to be made of some unknown metal and was about the size of a pickup truck's cab.
Inside the opened transparent hatch sat an adorable curly-haired baby. His blue eyes shone brightly as he kicked his little legs with energy. Smiling innocently at this wonderful, strange world, he looked curiously at the couple.
"Martha, let's get out of here."
Jonathan came back to his senses. After hesitating, he swallowed and spoke with a trace of urgency, intending to leave with his wife and child.
Since ancient times, whenever people gazed up at the stars, they had wondered whether humanity was alone in the Universe.
Now they had their answer, and the alien even looked remarkably similar to a human.
"The authorities will be here soon."
"This will definitely be tightly covered up. I don't want us dragged into this trouble."
"Leave?"
David was stunned. This was completely unexpected.
Right, Superman's adoptive parents had adopted Superman because Martha desperately wanted a child.
But now they already had one: him.
"Then... was Superman going to disappear?"
Without this incredibly kind couple finding and raising him, what would Superman become?
Would he be taken away by the military and become the emaciated experimental-subject Superman from some comic versions, unable to see daylight for more than a decade?
That would not do. Leaving aside how many world-ending crises the grown Superman had resolved, without Superman, where would David find another mine this large?
"No, perhaps God has been especially kind to us, Jonathan."
At that moment, looking at the adorable child in the spacecraft, Martha, newly a mother herself, felt an impulse flood her mind. Instinctively unwilling to leave the child here, hesitation appeared on her face.
"He sent us more than one angel."
"Martha?" Jonathan cried in surprise.
"Think about what the authorities will do to this child once they arrive."
It was not that she did not understand the trouble involved. Kind-hearted Martha turned to him, compassion in her eyes as she tried to persuade her husband.
"They'll lock him away in a cold laboratory under tight guard. Without his parents' care, without toys, without love, he'll grow up amid endless sampling and experiments..."
"Don't say any more, Martha." Caught in a dilemma, Jonathan rubbed his forehead in anguish. He shared his wife's kindness, but...
"Eeya..."
As he hesitated, one of David's short, chubby, fair arms stretched out of Martha's swaddling clothes. He waved at the Son of Krypton in the spacecraft and babbled with laughter, seeming to like him very much.
"Do you see that, Jonathan?"
Martha's eyes lit up, and her voice was delighted. She had found another powerful argument to persuade her husband.
"Our child seems to like him. He's telling us to adopt him."
"Two votes against one."
Seeing his son's reaction, Jonathan struggled internally for a moment before raising his hands in feigned helplessness. "All right, what else can I say?"
He gently kissed his wife, looked at his adorable, lively son, then at the lonely baby in the space capsule, and sighed.
"Two children. The farms will be busy next year."
