Clark gave Chloe a vague answer to brush off her question.

"Perfect, we can go together."

Pete suggested that they all go together, then spread his hands.

"Too bad it isn't summer. Otherwise, we could work as lifeguards at the pool."

That way, they would not have to spend time around elderly people wearing dentures. But since the weather had not fully warmed up in spring, volunteering indoors was still better than picking up trash and cleaning the streets outside.

Chloe had long since completed her required community service hours and declined the suggestion.

"She's not only watching me. She's watching Clark too."

David observed her for a moment.

Although Kara was chatting and grilling with several girls, her eyes occasionally swept this way in secret.

He was secretly observing her, and she was secretly observing both him and Clark.

"What is she after?"

"Chloe, you look cold. Want me to warm you up?"

A school team player with thick short blond hair and a handsome face walked over in his football uniform, smiling as he flirted with Chloe.

"I can't believe you said something like that so casually."

She had been hit on, but the line was so bold that Chloe was shocked and embarrassed.

"Don't get me wrong. I have a blanket. Want to come sit with me?" Sean raised an eyebrow and gestured in that direction.

"Sean, she's not your type!"

Pete stood up. Even though he was a head shorter, he fearlessly met Sean's gaze.

David had heard of Sean. He was smooth-talking, tricked girls into liking him, then broke up with them before long. He was a complete scumbag.

"In biology class, the teacher paired me with Jenna from the next class for an experiment."

As a School Newspaper reporter, Chloe had naturally heard of Sean's reputation. She smiled.

"I heard you dumped her last week?"

"To be precise, we dumped each other."

Sean did not panic at all. Seeing Chloe smile, he felt reassured and grew even more confident.

"Want to come sit with me? I promise I won't do anything, no matter how beautiful you are in my eyes."

At the end, his voice softened as he looked at her with the gaze he was best at using, his affectionate expression seeming capable of melting someone's heart.

A faint blush appeared on Chloe's face.

Very few people had praised her like that. Who said nobody liked her?

She glanced at Pete, who had said earlier that she was jealous of Kara, and opened her mouth to say something.

"I..."

"Chloe, you haven't had a single drink. Did warming yourself by the fire make you dizzy?"

David suddenly spoke up.

Teenagers often acted on impulse without considering the consequences.

"Back off."

He looked at Sean and said only three simple words. Sean's gaze shifted away. He had heard that David had taken on Whitney and several others by himself, so he raised his hands in surrender.

"Okay, okay."

There was no hope of picking up a girl now. Sean could only turn and leave unhappily, joining several friends who had called to him to play football by the lake.

"Actually... I was just going to give him a phone number to get rid of him."

After Sean left, Chloe calmed down. Facing the friends watching her, her face reddened as she tried to save face. "I'm not stupid."

David shrugged. "Let's just say I believe you."

Chloe was mortified, but in the end, she still thanked David and Pete. She understood their good intentions.

Clark watched silently from the side, pondering something.

When family faced danger, David became furious enough to make enemies feel thunderous wrath. When friends ran into trouble, he reminded and helped them, making them feel as warm as a spring breeze. Was his younger brother really beginning to place himself above everyone else?

"Is it really wrong... to be cold and merciless toward enemies?"

He abruptly shook his head at the question.

He could not keep thinking about it. If he did, it felt like his younger brother would change his values before anything else.

David looked at Clark in confusion. One moment he was spacing out, the next he was shaking his head. David had no idea what was wrong with him.

By the lake.

"The pizza we ordered is here."

"Sean, catch!"

Hearing that the pizza had arrived, a football team player threw a football at Sean. Sean jumped, but it still slipped past his hands.

Sean's football landed on the ice seven or eight meters away.

Seeing everyone else go eat pizza, he went to retrieve the ball in annoyance.

On the cold, hard, slippery ice, Sean had just picked up the ball when a crisp sound suddenly rang out.

Crack. Crack.

What was that sound?

Sean felt as though he had been drenched in icy water. Trembling all over, he looked down.

Cracks spread across the ice beneath his feet. He did not dare move recklessly and was just about to call for help.

"Help..."

The ice shattered beneath him, and he fell into the freezing lake water.

After struggling for a while, he drifted away from where he had fallen in. Unable to break through the ice, Sean drowned and suffocated. Soon, he stopped moving, his limbs no longer thrashing as he sank toward the lakebed.

A dim green glow shone from the mud at the bottom of the lake.

A large number of Meteorites had accumulated there.

When Sean fell onto the Meteorites, the veins on his corpse swelled and turned green in the icy lake water. Some astonishing change was quietly taking place.

Meanwhile, the football team players were eating steaming hot, delicious pizza, none of them noticing Sean's disappearance.

"The distributor gets twelve point five percent, six months of feed costs are five percent, plus an eight point two percent mortgage payment, plus the mower repair costs..."

Early that morning, Martha and Jonathan frowned as they used a calculator to tally the income and expenses from the past six months.

"Fifty-four thousand five hundred and one dollars."

After listening for a few seconds, Clark gave the answer before the calculator did.

Hearing the mower repair costs, he scratched his cheek awkwardly.

"If I hadn't stubbornly stuck my hand into the mower that day, the family could have saved over a thousand dollars in repair costs."

"Now calculate the income." Jonathan did not scold his eldest son. He gently took the bills.

David glanced at the remaining ledger. Before Jonathan could start pressing the calculator buttons, he spoke.

"The income was sixty-seven thousand three hundred and fifty-seven dollars.

Sounds like our farms made over ten thousand dollars in the second half of last year?"

He raised an eyebrow.

The couple put down the bills and calculator. Apparently used to this, they let out a breath.

Martha smiled at her two sons, who had been exceptionally intelligent since childhood.

"At least we didn't lose money, right?

Besides, the most valuable wealth in this family is the two of you."

"This isn't something you should be worrying about. Didn't you arrange to do community service with Pete? Go on."

Jonathan waved his hand, shooing away his two sons who had not yet entered college.

The burden of life should not rest on two students' shoulders.

They arrived at the Nursing Home in town.

"Room 206 needs an attendant. Please report to Room 206."

A voice came over the broadcast.

Every student had to complete thirty hours of community service, and David was no exception. The three of them came to the Nursing Home and received their assignments.

A beautiful Black-haired Girl wearing a magenta shirt pushed a cart full of books out of a room.

"Hi, Lana. What a coincidence. You're here too."

Clark waved in greeting, pretending that they had run into each other by chance, though there was an unmistakable hint of nervousness in his voice.

"You're volunteering here too?"

"I've been here for a while." Lana greeted the three of them and smiled calmly.

"What tasks were you assigned?"

"I need to keep Cassandra company while she reads."

David and Pete did not speak, leaving Clark the chance to talk with Lana. David's assignment was to play chess with an old lady.

"Cassandra? She's interesting."

Lana wore an amused expression and smiled.

"The caregivers say she can see the future. She can predict things minutes ahead, or even foresee someone's entire life."

"Have you tried it, Lana?"

At Clark's question, Lana said nothing and merely shrugged. Clearly, she did not believe it. Then she pushed her cart away to deliver books to the next elderly resident.

"Seeing the future?"

Pete had no particular reaction. David raised an eyebrow, while Clark paid more attention to Lana's retreating figure.

Rustle, rustle, rustle.

Inside the room, an elderly woman with white hair and a kind face wore dark glasses as she read a Braille book with her hands.

"Don't stand there. It's my first time having three people read with me. Come in."

She suddenly spoke.

Clark and the other two exchanged looks at the doorway.

Joy from Cassandra +1, +1.2...

David's eyes flickered as he secretly studied the old lady.

She really was a Metahuman, and not a weak one either. But he did not know whether her ability was truly seeing the future.

Still, did this old lady really need someone to read with her? How were they supposed to read Braille to her?

"How did you know there were three of us?"

Pete asked in confusion as they entered the room.

"My eyes may be blind, but my ears aren't deaf." Cassandra's weathered voice answered, though Pete was not fully convinced. Were blind people's hearing really that good?

Cassandra took off her dark glasses and accidentally dropped the book on her lap to the floor.

Pete, who stood in front of the other two, stepped forward to help pick it up. By accident, his hand touched the old lady's.

"What is your name, sir?"

The old lady slowly put away the book and asked.

"Pete Ross."

"Mr. Ross, your way home will be long today. Check your pocket."

Cassandra gave a mysterious little smile.

Pete felt in his pocket and discovered that his car keys were gone. He did not know where he had lost them.

"I'll be leaving first. Looks like I won't be able to do any volunteer work today. You two brothers take care."

He stared at the old lady in amazement, a lifeless expression flashing across his face as he spoke to the two of them.

After Pete left.

"You two are brothers?"

Cassandra looked at them and rose from her chair. She did not seem blind at all, turning her face precisely toward them with a kind smile.

"What are your names, gentlemen?"

The update was a little late. I wrote an extra thousand words, so please keep reading.
