Background / History
Inuyasha was sealed for fifty years after events surrounding Kikyo and the Jewel of Four Souls. Before the seal, he had promised Kikyo that he would become human so they could remain together, but later found himself unable to learn what had truly happened. Kaede ultimately accepted that he had not been responsible for the tragedy and allowed him to leave after he ran from the village in distress. 120 125
When Inuyasha first reappeared near Maple Leaf Village, he intended to take the Jewel of Four Souls. Yorii Tsugikuni's effortless killing of the Centipede Demoness, followed by Adai's overwhelming strength, convinced him not to act rashly. 121 123 129
He gradually became part of village life by helping rebuild the settlement, protecting the village from yokai, and secretly studying Yorii's sword instruction. His desire for the Jewel weakened after Kikyo's return and eventually disappeared entirely. 127 129 133 141 189
Appearance
Inuyasha is a silver-haired half-demon with distinctly canine traits. He wears a red Fire Rat Robe and carries himself with the speed and physical presence of a powerful yokai. 124
- Long silver hair, including two shorter temple strands that reach his chest. 124
- White dog ears, golden eyes, fangs, and sharp claws. 124
- Fiery red Fire Rat Robe over a white undershirt and red lantern pants. 124
- A black rope is slung across his shoulder. 124
Personality
Inuyasha is proud, combative, and easily provoked, particularly when others insult him or question his strength. He teased Adai for amusement, repeatedly challenged stronger opponents, and initially resisted the idea of recognizing Yorii as a master. 124 133 169
Despite his outwardly aloof behavior, he becomes deeply protective of the people around him. He watches strangers entering Kaede Village, calls the village's residents his friends when Sesshomaru disparages them, and defends Maple Leaf Village from an invading army without hesitation. 141 145 163
He dislikes owing others and initially feels uncomfortable with Yorii's kindness. Over time, however, he openly thanks Yorii for intervening against Sesshomaru and finds genuine satisfaction in Yorii's praise. 135 147 164
Abilities & Skills
Half-Demon Physiology
Inuyasha possesses superior physical strength, speed, durability, and demonic senses, though his half-demon nature also imposes a major weakness.
- His tough skin and Fire Rat Robe allowed him to endure repeated impacts from Adai without serious injury. 123
- He can move quickly enough to appear as a streak of red light. 122
- He loses his demonic powers and becomes an ordinary human during the new moon. 133
- His half-yokai body lets him train Breathing Techniques with little physical burden. 142
Breath of Qi
Inuyasha secretly copied Yorii Tsugikuni's teachings and rapidly mastered the Breath of Qi.
- Greatly improves his physical power, reaction speed, and resilience. 145 146
- Allows him to contend with Sesshomaru's demonic-energy whips rather than relying on demonic power alone. 145
- Can be combined with his demonic power and aura to enhance his full-body combat output. 163
- His progress is regarded by Yorii as the greatest among the students he has taught. 146
Tetsusaiga
Tetsusaiga is the sword Inuyasha inherited from his father and chose to wield in order to protect others rather than remain under Yorii's protection.
- Retrieved from his father's tomb after Myoga guided him to it. 149
- Its power, combined with Breath of Qi, at least doubled Inuyasha's strength. 160
- He learned the Wind Scar after further training. 171
- The weapon was later strengthened and became visibly larger and more powerful. 185
Combat
Inuyasha's fighting style emphasizes direct, high-speed assaults and close-range power.
- Defeated Wild Wolf Gan while investigating attacks on nearby villages. 149
- Crushed a human army's charge by transforming into a spinning humanoid tornado and killed its armored general. 163 164
- Fought Sesshomaru long enough to force him to take their battle seriously, though Sesshomaru's Azure Dragon Wave ultimately surpassed him. 145 146
- Continued fighting after Tetsusaiga was damaged during the yokai army's assault on Maple Leaf Village. 172

- Kagome Higurashi — A companion whose resemblance to Kikyo initially confuses him; she worries for his safety and helps ease his agitation after his encounter with Kikyo. 124 140 146
- Grandmother Kaede — Kikyo's younger sister and a stern guardian figure. She recognizes Inuyasha's innocence but continues to discipline him through the Word Spirit Prayer Beads. 125 129
- Kikyo — His former beloved; he once promised to become human so they could be together. Her apparent return causes him considerable turmoil. 120 140 159
- Sesshomaru — His older half-brother from a different mother. Their hostile encounters drive Inuyasha to improve his strength and master Tetsusaiga. 144 145 171

- Miroku — A fellow Society member and frequent bickering partner; they cooperate on missions despite constantly provoking each other. 159 164
- Sango — Fellow demon exterminator and ally who assists him in defending Maple Leaf Village; she also intervenes when he bullies Shippo. 171 173
