Background / History
Yu Xiaogang served as Tang San’s teacher at Shrek Academy. Before the Soul Master Tournament, he investigated Skywater Academy’s undefeated Soul Fighting Arena competitors and identified Xiao Han and Shui Bing’er as the core of a highly balanced team rather than a simple extreme-attribute lineup. His assessment pushed Tang San to improve Shrek’s cultivation methods and preparation. 42
Xiao Han’s abnormal Soul Ring configuration repeatedly challenged Yu Xiaogang’s understanding of Soul Master theory. He considered a thousand-year Second Soul Ring and ten-thousand-year Fourth Soul Ring violations of established absorption limits, and later could not explain Xiao Han’s rapid rise from Soul King to Soul Saint or the transformation of his Soul Rings. 53 124 162
During the tournament, Yu Xiaogang directed Shrek’s tactical responses to Xiao Han. He ordered Jing Ling to harass Xiao Han and drain his reserves, surrendered when allowing Xiao Han to recover Soul Power became too dangerous, and later forfeited Shrek’s match against Godwind Academy after the team’s defeat. 67 68 73
Seeking guidance for Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls, Yu Xiaogang entered the Pope’s Palace with the Pope’s Token and appealed to Bibi Dong. Her revelation that she had sent assassins after Tang San provoked him to threaten a complete break with her and Spirit Hall. 76 77
After Xiao Han killed Dugu Bo and Oscar, Yu Xiaogang confronted him alongside Liu Erlong in Heaven Dou City. He demanded accountability but prevented Liu Erlong from attacking, recognizing that they could not defeat Xiao Han directly. 139 140
During Spirit Hall’s takeover of Heaven Dou, Yu Xiaogang fought beside Flender and Liu Erlong through the Golden Iron Triangle’s Martial Soul Fusion Skill. Liu Erlong’s death caused the Golden Saint Dragon to collapse; Flender was subsequently killed while protecting Yu Xiaogang, leaving him the sole survivor of the trio until Tang San rescued him. 162 163
Bibi Dong later saved Yu Xiaogang from Xiao Han and openly abandoned Spirit Hall’s side for his sake. Yu Xiaogang initially distrusted her motives, but after further defeats and losses, he accepted her protection and remained in hiding with her. 181 183 219
Yu Xiaogang continued guiding Tang San’s cultivation in seclusion, celebrating his disciple’s breakthrough to rank seventy and accompanying him to obtain a Seventh Soul Ring. Xiao Han ambushed them in the Star Dou Great Forest, froze Yu Xiaogang, and shattered his right leg after he tried to threaten him with Bibi Dong’s retaliation. 221 222
At the end of his life, Yu Xiaogang was concealed by Bibi Dong using divine power. Xiao Han detected him after reaching godhood and killed him with a blue-gold ice arrow that destroyed his body completely. 230
Personality
Yu Xiaogang is deeply committed to Martial Soul research and tactical reasoning. He analyzes opponents’ team compositions, Soul Ring limits, and potential weaknesses, though Xiao Han’s repeated violations of his theories leave him frustrated and defeated. 42 53 124
As Tang San’s teacher, he is protective and encouraging. He reassures Xiao Wu after Tang Hao’s death, urges Tang San to prioritize survival and growth, and remains invested in his disciple’s cultivation despite escalating danger. 156 203 221
His caution is often born from weakness: his Soul Power never reaches rank thirty, leaving him unable to confront high-level threats directly. After losing Liu Erlong and Flender, he becomes increasingly dependent on Bibi Dong’s protection. 76 163 219
