A colossal, twisted thing formed from countless tentacles, roots, and chaotic, disordered masses appeared in Elizabeth's special vision. It was as though some Unspeakable Thing beyond mortal comprehension lay coiled in the depths underground, filling every corner of her sight like a curtain of darkness.
At that moment, the instinctive fear of living creatures quietly rose from the depths of her heart.
Elizabeth felt like an ant gazing up at a mountain, tiny as dust. It seemed that all mortals could do was look up.
She could not help taking a deep breath—even though she had long ceased needing to breathe. Then, in a moment of daze, the horrifying scene before her vanished.
"What's wrong?"
Wang Gulas's concerned voice came from beside her.
Elizabeth ignored him and looked overhead. In that unique perspective from before, if she remembered correctly, a tentacle had passed through there.
The Arcane Light Cluster floated upward, dispelling the ink-black darkness.
The sight that followed nearly made the Soul Fire in Elizabeth's eyes stop flickering.
"Gasp..."
Giant Axe and the others also sucked in sharp breaths, their eyes widening as they utterly failed to believe what they were seeing.
A tentacle—or perhaps a root—stretched across above their heads.
It was nearly larger than the dwarves' biggest ore train, its surface covered in countless intricate Magic Inscriptions. One could hardly glance at it without becoming immersed in them.
"What... is this..."
Only after a long while did Wang Gulas unconsciously murmur those words.
"I don't know." Giant Axe let out a deep breath, his heart still pounding violently. "I've mined for so many years, but I've never seen anything like this. It looks like... a plant's roots?"
Roots...
That was Giant Axe's conclusion.
To be honest, he could not imagine what sort of plant could possess roots
