In other words, the Necrons counted as mechanical shells driven by conscious programs, and no one knew whether they were dead or alive.

It was even more miserable than being a Brain in a Jar.

Perhaps the only benefit was that the Necrons had become insulated from the Warp and no longer had projections there.

They had basically been erased from the Warp's registry, and even the Chaos Gods could do nothing to these bodies of Living Metal.

Ron pondered the related questions until his head buzzed.

The Necrons had already lost their souls, so naturally they had also lost the emotions of living beings, such as joy, anger, sorrow, happiness, desire, and so on.

But in reality, they still wanted to restore their souls and revive their dynasty. They could still grow angry and wage war against their enemies. Those were clearly traits of life.

Not to mention that there were perverted Necrons like the Flayers, who had an intense desire for flesh and blood.

That made it very hard to explain logically.
