There were five innate virtues: sagely virtue, merit virtue, yin virtue, blessed virtue, and Dao virtue.
Sagely virtue was the moral character of a human king.
Merit virtue was the creation wrought by meritorious deeds.
Yin virtue was the protection bestowed by the deceased.
Blessed virtue was the blessings and recompense of the present world.
Dao virtue was the proper manifestation of one's Dao practice.
Among the five virtues, merit virtue was the most precious. It could dispel calamities and resolve hardships, break through realms and ascend, refine treasures and create methods, and grant new life from the brink of death.
Thus, merit virtue was exceedingly difficult to obtain.
It was not something one could gain merely by teaching and nurturing others or relieving a single region. At most, such deeds brought blessed virtue or yin virtue.
Merit virtue was bestowed by Heaven and Earth; one could not obtain it without accomplishing some great deed beneficial to Heaven and Earth.
Yet apart from Heavenly Dao merit virtue, there was also human Dao merit virtue. Humanity was the most numerous race among the myriad heavens and worlds, and the vast number of humans and countless human powerhouses had made humanity the overlord among all races and living beings of the myriad heavens and worlds.
This status brought humanity boundless human Dao merit virtue. Thus, whenever humanity flourished in a world, whenever a human king pacified the realm, whenever worthy ministers and valiant generals saved the age and settled the people, human Dao merit virtue would descend.
Though human Dao merit virtue could not compare to Heavenly Dao merit virtue, it still remained an indispensable force throughout the myriad heavens and worlds.
