"How was that possible? He was only a Soul Ancestor in his forties. How could he injure a Soul Sage without using his martial soul, especially a Soul Sage with a martial soul as defensively powerful as the Mighty Vajra Bear?!"
Ning Rongrong, who had been slacking off at the edge of the field, stared at Lu Mingchuan in disbelief. This scene had nearly shattered her worldview. If he had originally used his martial soul to contend with Zhao Wuji, it could still be explained by an absurdly powerful configuration. But now, he had not only put away his martial soul—
He had even pierced a Soul Sage's defenses with an utterly ordinary spear, then blocked a Soul Sage's attack afterward. This simply did not fit with the worldview she had grown up with.
Zhu Zhuqing, standing nearby, did not say much due to her aloof nature. Yet judging by her slightly parted lips and the shock in her eyes, she had suffered no less of an impact than Ning Rongrong beside her.
In the arena.
"Good kid." Looking at the spear shaft that had lashed his palm until it stung, Zhao Wuji could not help shouting. He then tried to grab the shaft and disarm him.
But Lu Mingchuan saw through his intentions at once. Releasing one hand, he coated it in Imaginary Energy and chopped directly at Zhao Wuji's wrist. Zhao Wuji only felt his wrist go numb before the spear shaft slipped from his grasp and rapidly enlarged in his vision.
With a crisp clang, a mark appeared on Zhao Wuji's forehead. He stood there dazed for a moment. Seeing Zhao Wuji blank out, Lu Mingchuan naturally did not remain idle. He pressed the advantage and swung the spear into Zhao Wuji's kidney again.
The blow sent him flying several meters away. After getting back up, Zhao Wuji was visibly more clearheaded. Grimacing, he clutched his waist and waved a hand. "No more, no more. You brat hit way too viciously. I really can't take it anymore."
As he spoke, he gestured toward the spot where the incense had been planted. Following his gaze, Lu Mingchuan saw that the incense had already burned out, leaving only a stick standing there. Once Zhao Wuji saw Lu Mingchuan notice it, he vigorously rubbed his kidney twice.
Why did it hurt this much? Don't tell me this brat actually damaged Old Zhao's kidney? With that thought in mind, he gathered his Soul Power and roared, "Oscar!!"
"I'm here, I'm here. What does Teacher Zhao need me for?" A bearded man emerged from who knew where. "Give me two of your sausages."
Hearing that, Oscar glanced over the people present. Damn, there were three pretty girls here. If he recited his soul chant in front of them now, wouldn't he lose all chance of finding a partner? With that thought, Oscar cautiously looked at Zhao Wuji, stepped closer, and spoke in a low voice.
"Teacher Zhao, there are so many new students enrolling this year. How about you come ask me for them privately? I'll give them to you for free." Zhao Wuji knew exactly what the brat was thinking as soon as he heard that. Clutching his waist, he irritably smacked him.
"What, do you think you can keep your soul chant secret for your whole life? You're hemming and hawing over a single sausage. It's not like Old Zhao isn't paying." As he spoke, he pulled out two Copper Soul Coins and slapped them onto Oscar.
Oscar looked at the Copper Soul Coins on his chest and fell into hesitation. In the end, he gritted his teeth and accepted them. "I Have a Big Sausage." Along with that sleazy soul chant, a sausage appeared in Oscar's palm.
Lu Mingchuan frowned slightly as he watched Oscar's sleazy appearance. The words themselves were sleazy, sure, but not sleazy to this extent. It could only be said that Oscar had elevated the sleaziness of this soul chant to an entirely new level.
After handing the sausage to Zhao Wuji, Oscar swept his gaze around. Seeing the disgust on Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong's faces, his heart sank into sorrow. But then Huang Quan's expressionless face entered his sight again, reigniting a trace of hope in his heart.
Suddenly, he felt someone jab him with an elbow. Turning around, he saw Zhao Wuji. "Listen, you absolutely must not think about pursuing that purple-haired girl." He muttered mysteriously to Oscar, glancing toward Lu Mingchuan, who stood beside Huang Quan with a smiling face.
Then he looked back at Oscar. Seeing the confusion on his face, Zhao Wuji began explaining. "You saw all these injuries on me when you arrived, right?" Oscar nodded. Zhao Wuji pointed at Lu Mingchuan before saying, "That brat gave them to me. And he didn't even use his martial soul."
Oscar shuddered violently at those words and shakily looked toward Lu Mingchuan. When he saw Lu Mingchuan smiling warmly at him, a thin layer of cold sweat trickled down his forehead.
He abruptly turned back and took a deep breath. He shouldn't know what I was thinking, right? That thought flashed through his mind. He then turned back to Zhao Wuji. "Teacher Zhao, if there's nothing else, I'll be going." With that, he vanished in a flash.
Honestly, Lu Mingchuan had no particular opinion of this future Food God from the original story. At most, he was just sleazy. But Oscar's performance just now had genuinely surprised him. He had never imagined someone could be sleazy to such an extent, and the way Oscar had looked at Huang Quan afterward made him somewhat displeased.
But when he saw Zhao Wuji slowly walking over, he temporarily put those thoughts aside. "You brat, you really are a monster among monsters. Being able to defeat Old Zhao at just over forty levels is truly impressive. Welcome to Shrek Academy."
Lu Mingchuan shook his head. "I'm not here to take the assessment. I just came to look around and see whether this school is worth joining." Zhao Wuji chuckled upon hearing that.
"What's there to consider? As long as you join, Old Zhao will spar with you every day. How about it?" Lu Mingchuan still shook his head. Seeing this, Zhao Wuji smacked his lips twice. "Forget it. Think it over slowly yourself. Old Zhao can't understand what people like you are thinking anyway."
He then turned and said something to the two girls before having them take Xiao Wu away. As for himself, he picked up Tang San and leisurely left.
Watching his retreating figure, Lu Mingchuan could not help laughing. Zhao Wuji had left him not knowing how to evaluate him. But joining Shrek was still impossible. A bunch of idiot students—who would want to hang around with them? If their stupidity rubbed off on him, wouldn't he be finished?
Shaking his head to clear those thoughts away, he took Huang Quan's hand and headed out of Shrek. It was nearly time to eat. He had seen Shrek Academy's meals in the original story, so he could not be bothered to look at more steamed buns and pickled vegetables.
It would be better to go to Suotuo City and find a restaurant for a proper meal.
Just as Lu Mingchuan pulled Huang Quan along to find somewhere to eat, Tang San, who had been tossed into the dormitory by Zhao Wuji, slowly woke up as well. "What happened to me?" Feeling the pain in his face, Tang San was rather dazed. Then, as though he had remembered something, he leaped off the bed.
"Xiao Wu, Xiao Wu!" Muttering Xiao Wu's name, Tang San threw open the dormitory door. The moment it opened, he saw Xiao Wu raising her hand, about to knock.
