Background

Ace is the son of Gol D. Roger. Roger later acknowledges him as his son and thanks Garp for taking care of him, while Ace struggles with the legacy and resentment attached to his father's name 244 370.

After setting sail, Ace was separated from his ship by a storm and stranded on a deserted island, where he met Deuce. The two found a Devil Fruit while starving; Ace consumed the first bite and became the user of the Mera Mera no Mi 224.

Ace initially sought to become Pirate King and surpass Roger. His ambition remained central even after he joined Whitebeard's crew; when Whitebeard proposed making him his successor, Ace refused because he wanted Whitebeard himself to become Pirate King 224 332.

Ace is a young, freckled pirate who wears a cowboy hat. He is first depicted standing before Loguetown's execution platform with a calm expression and an unfocused gaze 224.

Sabaody and the Quincy Connection

At Sabaody, Ace meets Rayleigh, who tells him about Roger and suggests that the Quincy may be connected to his past. Ace later travels to Moonlit Island to confirm the Quincy's claimed link to Rouge 244 256 257.

Dressrosa Incident

After learning that Doflamingo framed his friend and manipulated the Kingdom of Prodence, Ace leads the Spade Pirates to Dressrosa. While Ace battles Doflamingo, Deuce uncovers Sugar's role in transforming dissidents into toys and frees the victims 265 267.

Ace learns Armament Haki hardening during the battle and pushes Doflamingo into a mutually devastating final exchange. Yun Ye subsequently breaks the Birdcage and intervenes, saving Ace after the fight 267 268.

Whitebeard Pirates and Fish-Man Island

Ace becomes Whitebeard's Second Division Commander. He visits Fish-Man Island to apologize to Jinbe, then helps defend the island from the New Fish-Man Pirates and Blackbeard's crew 277 278.
