Background / History

Yun Ye is a transmigrant from Earth who awakens in the Pirate World with the Death God Template. He takes control of a body identified by the Navy as Luke Bernie of Oli Island, but adopts the name Patino Yun Ye and claims amnesia when his past is raised. 1 28

His earliest actions on Donzuke Island are directed against its three oppressive underground powers: the Evil Wolf Gang, Iron Hand Gang, and Oli Family. He annihilates all three after witnessing their abuse of local residents, though the scale of his violence makes him question whether he resembles a villain. 1 3 6

The villagers of Donzuke Island, especially Xiaoya, become Yun Ye's first meaningful connection in the new world. He protects them during Germa 66's attack, later returns to heal Xiaoya's scars, and eventually recognizes her as his younger sister. 13 16 146 245

Appearance

Yun Ye is a young man with red pupils who was initially described as just over 1.8 meters tall. He frequently conceals his identity behind a black-and-white mask, particularly when acting as the Quincy. 27 37 120

  • As Night Blade, he usually wears a Navy greatcoat and carries his sword. 81 150
  • As the Quincy, he wears the Black and White Mask to separate his actions from his Navy identity. 24 148
  • Activating Zangetsu's Bankai transforms his greatcoat into black Shinigami-like attire and changes his blade into a slender black sword. 273
  • The Hollowfication Mask is black and white with a ferocious appearance; wearing it gives Yun Ye an overtly violent and sinister aura. 274

Personality

Yun Ye presents himself as calm, confident, and often courteous, but he is calculating beneath that exterior. He deliberately constructs identities, deceives enemies into fighting one another, and uses fear as a management tool when necessary. 24 53 55

He possesses a personal sense of justice rather than unconditional loyalty to the Navy or World Government. He opposes oppression, despises the Celestial Dragons' cruelty, and judges criminals according to his own standards instead of treating every outlaw identically. 1 75 96

Yun Ye is cautious about opponents whose power he cannot confidently overcome, yet he enjoys difficult battles and continuously seeks stronger enemies to test and refine himself. 119 274 280

His most uncompromising trait is his protectiveness toward those he considers family or comrades. Threats against Xiaoya provoke his rare, extreme anger and ultimately lead him to kill Fleet Admiral Akainu and abandon the Navy. 286 289 292

Abilities & Skills

Death God Template

Yun Ye's system grants skills modeled after the Death God world. Skills can improve through use or through Achievement Points earned by defeating dangerous opponents and accomplishing significant feats. 2

  • Its abilities consume stamina rather than spiritual pressure.
  • His physique limits how much power he can safely release, especially with high-level Kidō and Shunko. 2 18 47
  • The system's skills are later linked to a mysterious bead located deep within Yun Ye's soul. 383

Swordsmanship and Zanpakutō

Yun Ye is a swordsman whose abilities are built around strengthening his blade. He can produce Flying Slashes and combines sword techniques with lightning, fire, ice, Haki, and Kidō. 2 135

  • Moon Fang Heaven Piercer — a massive crescent-shaped slash used against opponents from Lawrence to Hawk Eye. 10 74 274
  • Extreme Slash — a concentrated sword attack used to kill Vice Admiral Onigumo. 62
  • Zangetsu — enhances his slashing power; its Bankai, Heavenly Lock Slash, exponentially improves Yun Ye's speed, mobility, and attack power. 170 273
  • Hyōrinmaru — an ice-type Zanpakutō whose Bankai can rival Aokiji's freezing power. 68 170
  • Flowing Blade Like Fire — a fire-type Zanpakutō capable of producing golden flames and extreme heat; its Bankai, Zanka no Tachi, is used to destroy Imu. 205 280 450

Kidō

Yun Ye employs offensive, binding, defensive, and healing Kidō.

  • White Lightning / Byakurai — a fast lightning attack; Yun Ye's first maximized skill. 2
  • Azure Firefall — a destructive fire-based Kidō used against Iron Hand, Germa forces, and Donquixote officers. 3 16 45
  • Thunder Roar Cannon / Raigōhō — a high-level lightning cannon that becomes drastically stronger with incantation. 18 47
  • Five Dragon Annihilation — Hadō #99, a large-scale attack of five lightning dragons. 141 398
  • Kurohitsugi / Black Coffin — a gravity-based containment and cutting technique. 204
  • Mouth Pierce Three Flashes and Six Paths Light Prison — binding techniques used to restrain targets. 16 318
  • Dankū / Severing Sky — Yun Ye's principal defensive barrier. 123 280
  • Withered Tree Rejuvenation — healing Kidō used to recover from injury and heal Xiaoya's scars. 64 146

Shunko

Shunko is Yun Ye's primary physical enhancement technique, combining elemental power with close-quarters combat. 42 170

  • Blaze-Lightning Mode combines fire and lightning for explosive power. 185
  • Thunder God Form is his strongest standard Shunko form, granting overwhelming lightning-based offense and speed. 185 201
  • Shunko boosts physical ability but places severe strain on Yun Ye's body when his physique cannot support it. 47 262

Haki and Navy Techniques

Yun Ye learns Navy techniques and all three forms of Haki during his Navy career.

  • Observation Haki — includes combat prediction; he uses it to detect hostile intent and counter hidden attacks. 75 78
  • Armament Haki — awakened under Zephyr's pressure and later developed into advanced internal-destruction application. 71 185
  • Conqueror's Haki — capable of suppressing large groups and clashing with other supreme users; Yun Ye later masters its coating. 65 111 129
  • Flash Step, Soru, and Geppo — high-speed movement techniques; Flash Step reaches proficiency 100. 9 68 223

Gia Clone

Gia lets Yun Ye operate multiple bodies with a shared consciousness rather than creating an ordinary independent clone. 23

  • Each body has nearly identical physical abilities and shares system-linked improvement. 23 38
  • The Quincy and Navy identities were maintained through separate bodies to conceal their connection. 24 170
  • After becoming Lord of the World, Yun Ye possesses three Gia Clones. 450

Devil Fruit and Soul Abilities

Yun Ye later acquires and develops multiple Devil Fruit powers.

  • Soul-Soul Fruit — allows him to split off parts of his soul and create humanoid lightning and fire Homies. 383 398
  • Thunder Flame Homies — the lightning Homie T and flame Homie H can independently counter Imu's natural-disaster attacks. 398 401
  • Sway-Sway Fruit — integrated into a ring, allowing Yun Ye to levitate and manipulate objects; he seeks to develop it toward awakening. 428 429
  • Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Zoan: Death God Form — the identity Yun Ye uses to explain his Zanpakutō-like transformations publicly. 274

Hollowfication Mask

The Hollowfication Mask is a limited-use special item that grants a major physical increase and rapid regeneration. 264 274

  • It enabled Yun Ye to overpower Hawk Eye after their extended sword duel. 274
  • Its regeneration rapidly heals injuries but consumes substantial stamina. 274
  • It is limited to three total uses. 280 450

Black Passage

Black Passage is an item acquired after Yun Ye defeats Imu. 450

  • Opens portals through world boundaries.
  • Yun Ye sends Gia Clones through it to scout unknown worlds. 450

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Yin Xian — Yun Ye's sword; originally one of the Great Grade Swords, later strengthened by his Haki until it can endure the heat of Flowing Blade Like Fire. 223
  • Black and White Mask — separates Yun Ye's Quincy persona from his Navy identity. 24 148
  • Hollowfication Mask — limited-use enhancement item. 274 280

  • Black Passage — interdimensional portal item obtained through the Lord of the World title. 450

  • Xiaoya — younger sister; Yun Ye's earliest supporter on Donzuke Island and the person he considers more important than anyone else. He heals her scars, supports her Navy training, and destroys his Navy allegiance when Akainu threatens her. 13 146 245 286 292
  • Zephyr — mentor and former Elite Camp instructor; guides Yun Ye's Haki and physical training, later accepts Yun Ye's Quincy identity and stands by him. 38 71 406
