More than 300 Roman warriors, clad in energy armor and covered by thick blue energy shields, were systematically attacking the Aurora Power Station. Each shot from their pole-axes accurately blasted away one or several guards hiding behind the station's buildings. Nearly half of the power station's surface structures, spread across several square kilometers, had been completely destroyed. Rolling smoke billowed into the sky, merging with the dark clouds above.
The ground was littered with the corpses of guards in gray uniforms. Gu Xiechen scanned the entire power station area with binoculars and found at least 800 guard corpses lying on the ground, meaning more than half of the guards had been killed.
The Roman warriors advanced steadily, destroying guards and their cover one by one with high-energy particle streams.
"Damn it!"
Gu Xiechen suddenly cursed. A heavy truck had just been destroyed by the Romans. The guards blown away by the plasma explosion behind the truck were no longer wearing gray uniforms but police uniforms. Around the heavy truck, more than twenty police cars were scattered haphazardly. Clearly, these police officers had rushed from the nearest town to reinforce the Aurora Power Station.
"Ah..." A frantic scream came from the ground. Over a dozen power station staff members, dressed in white work clothes, couldn't withstand the pressure of the approaching Romans. They rushed out of their hiding places, armed with light firearms. These non-professional combatants were blown to smithereens before they could even pull the trigger.
Blue plasma explosions flashed in all directions, turning everything in front of the Romans into fragments. Vehicles, walls, buildings, thick fluid pipes—everything in the path of the high-energy particle streams was sent flying into the sky amidst the blue explosions.
"Attack!" the Bearded Commander roared. "First Battalion, Second Battalion, attack! Third, Fourth, and Fifth Battalions, follow Uncle Beard. We're going to seize the ground structures of the reactor and hold them!"
Gu Xiechen, who had long been impatient, let out a long cry to the sky. He leaped down from a height of over two hundred meters, shouting, "First Battalion, Second Battalion, follow me! Cover the retreat of the ground guards!"
With a backhand grab, he held a twelve-point-seven millimeter, three-barreled heavy machine gun. As Gu Xiechen jumped from high above, the heavy machine gun let out a dull roar, and a flame nearly three meters long spewed from its muzzle. The recoil from its ultra-high rate of fire, 13,000 rounds per minute, sent Gu Xiechen's body soaring up several more meters, almost hitting the helicopter he had just jumped from.
The Bearded Commander laughed wildly. He shouldered a quad-mounted heavy rocket launcher and pulled the trigger at a Roman charging at the forefront on the ground.
Four muffled sounds came, and four heavy rockets, with piercing whistles, hit the Roman.
The blue energy shield flickered rapidly. The energy shield, originally three inches thick, became only one inch thick in the violent explosion. The Roman flew back, spitting blood, finding it difficult to withstand the vibration from the four heavy rockets. Gu Xiechen's gun barrel swept over at the opportune moment, and a torrent of steel fiercely struck the Roman. Hundreds of large-caliber bullets made the Roman's armor shield shake, and specks of blue light rain continuously splashed. Another rocket was fired from the helicopter, and the Roman's energy shield finally shattered.
Over thirty heavy machine gun bullets pierced the Roman's body. The nearly three-meter-tall body was cut in half, and golden blood was carried by the airflow, flying out more than ten meters.
Gu Xiechen landed heavily on the ground. He tightly gripped the heavy machine gun in his right hand and unleashed a furious barrage, forcing the dozen or so Romans in front of him to stagger backward repeatedly. The energy armor protected their bodies from the bullets, but the powerful kinetic energy of the bullets was something these Romans found difficult to endure. Even with the auxiliary power of the energy armor, these Romans could only retreat continuously.
Streams of high-energy particles shot from both sides. When the particle streams were still more than ten meters away from Gu Xiechen, the high temperature of the plasma cluster caused Gu Xiechen's eyelashes to burn one by one. Gu Xiechen scrambled and fell to the ground. The mercenaries behind him, who had just rappelled down from the helicopter, turned into blue smoke in the blue flames without even a whimper.
"I'll f*** your mother!" Gu Xiechen roared. The machine gun in his hand roared again, and a large spray of bullets forced the Romans to retreat.
While firing, Gu Xiechen roared at the power station guards behind the crude cover, "Retreat! Everyone retreat! Set up a defensive line behind our commander! Go!"
The power station guards, who had already been pushed off balance, along with the remaining dozens of reinforcing police officers and the temporarily armed power station staff, fled from behind the cover in disarray. Under the cover of Gu Xiechen and the continuously descending mercenaries, these people successfully escaped the pursuit of the Romans.
Gu Xiechen also retreated while fighting. The mercenaries of the First and Second Battalions of the Imperial Guard Regiment skillfully covered each other, retreating continuously.
All 2,700-plus mercenaries had landed. Dozens of biplane helicopters hovered less than ten meters above the ground. Weapon pylons, three meters long, suddenly extended from the sides of the cabins. Fire erupted from the dark weapon pods, and hundreds of missiles and over 2,000 large-caliber rockets whistled through the air with piercing screams.
More than 300 Roman warriors were blown away by the shockwave of the explosions, their burning blue energy flames almost completely shattered. Gu Xiechen and the other mercenaries cheered. They accurately strafed these blown-away Romans, and over fifty Roman warriors were killed on the spot, their bodies splattered with blood.
'Buzz', a large wave of blue light swept from the remaining Roman warriors. Seeing the unfavorable turn of the battle, these Romans immediately unleashed their most powerful innate weapon—mental shock.
Without Gu Xiechen needing to give any orders, even before these mental shockwaves were emitted, the mercenaries of the Imperial Guard Regiment had already thrown out nearly a hundred specially made electromagnetic grenades. Piercing whistles echoed continuously as high-frequency electromagnetic waves swept the surroundings, rapidly increasing the electron concentration in the air. Dense charges of electricity covered the surface of everyone's skin, and a large burst of sparks erupted with the slightest movement.
The electromagnetic waves weakened the Romans' mental shockwaves, but the blue mental shock tore through the raging electromagnetic waves in the air and still swept forward. Except for Gu Xiechen, whose vision was only slightly blurred, the mercenaries of the First and Second Battalions of the Imperial Guard Regiment spurted blood from all seven orifices almost simultaneously. Nearly a hundred mercenaries screamed, clutching their heads, their heads suddenly swelling, followed by a loud bang, their heads exploded, spraying red and white matter everywhere.
"Elites, Uncle Beard! They're f***ing Roman elites!" Gu Xiechen roared into his communicator. "The intensity of the mental shock is at least three times higher than last time in the African Black Forest!"
With such strong lethality even after being neutralized by specially made electromagnetic grenades, these Roman warriors were definitely elites, comparable to the special marine corps of the Earth Federation Army's space fleet!
The Bearded Commander cursed wildly, cursing the ancestors of the Romans, while also affectionately praising the white and tender buttocks of the senior generals of the Federal Military Department!
"Damn it, why are there such elites among the Romans here? They're just raiding parties, not the f***ing main Roman army! Could it be that the Romans and the Earth Federation have gone to full-scale war again?"
While the Bearded Commander's roar still echoed, dozens of tall, swift beast-like figures suddenly leaped out from beneath the thick, white snow outside the power station. These were over sixty white wolves, each the size of the most robust bull. Their nearly silver fur flowed around their bodies, and their deep blue eyes were filled with a lust for slaughter. Their sharp claws and fangs emitted a faint golden light under the station's cold searchlights. These wolves, like the hellhounds of Norse mythology, burst from the ground and charged straight at them.
A terrifying thought flashed through Gu Xiechen's mind. He exclaimed in disbelief, "Roman bio-beasts! Roman bio-beasts! Commander, it's a f***ing ambush! Retreat, retreat!"
The locations where these white wolves emerged from the ground were at least 800 meters away from Gu Xiechen, but in the time it took to say just a sentence, these white wolves had already pounced before him.
Gu Xiechen dropped all his weapons and ammunition. Cold energy wrapped around his claws, and the skin and blood vessels on his claws became almost completely transparent. Gu Xiechen, exuding a biting cold, met the pack of white wolves and loudly ordered, "Imperial Guard First Battalion, Second Battalion, retreat immediately!"
His claws struck the head of a white wolf like the wind. With a loud 'clang' like two chunks of iron colliding, Gu Xiechen's claws felt a sharp pain. The white wolf in front of him let out a miserable howl and was sent flying back more than ten meters by the immense force. Ten deep claw marks on the white wolf's skull penetrated directly into its brain, and viscous brain matter mixed with blood continuously spurted from the ten deep wounds.
Enduring the soreness in his finger bones, Gu Xiechen exerted all his strength and swung his claws hundreds of times at the seven or eight white wolves nearby. White, sharp claw winds whistled and scattered, causing large patches of fur to fall off the white wolves, and blood sprayed from their bodies. The injured white wolves simultaneously pounced on Gu Xiechen. The white wolf with the severely injured skull stared intently at Gu Xiechen, suddenly opened its mouth, and spat out a stream of white cold air at Gu Xiechen before collapsing and dying.
Gu Xiechen, who was dodging the white wolves' pounces, didn't notice the cold air approaching him. Caught off guard, Gu Xiechen's legs were sealed by the cold air, and a mass of solid blue ice froze his legs and the ice and snow on the ground into a single block. Gu Xiechen's rapidly dodging body suddenly stiffened, and seven or eight wolf claws simultaneously raked across his body, drawing streaks of blood.
With a burst of force from his leg guards, the blue ice shattered, and Gu Xiechen's finger bones also turned semi-transparent.
