Background & History
Morgan is summoned by Xi Jianxi in place of the Berserker he expected. She identifies herself as the Fairy Queen Morgan and accepts the role of his Servant, though she immediately recognizes that Xi Jianxi is not an ordinary modern magus. Their contract gives her a stable enough mana supply that she does not need to rest, even though she occasionally sleeps and dreams of her past. 3
Early in the war, Morgan investigates Fuyuki independently. She identifies the underground cavern beneath Mount Enzou as the location of the Greater Holy Grail, bypasses its anti-Servant barriers, and concludes that the Grail has been contaminated and is barely functional as a wish-granting device. 4
Morgan recognizes Saber as her sister, Artoria Pendragon, and initiates a battle at Fuyuki's coast. Artoria finds her difficult to understand: Morgan is a magecraft prodigy but also an unexpectedly capable close-combat combatant. Although they begin as enemies, Morgan later defends Artoria from outside judgment and admits that, despite their differences, they share an attachment to Britain. 6 7 26 31
During the Holy Grail War, Morgan provides Xi Jianxi with intelligence on the other factions, the Lesser Holy Grail, and the Greater Holy Grail's structure. She helps reveal the Grail's corruption to the participating Masters, warning that wishes made through it could produce extreme consequences, including the destruction of Britain as an anomaly in human history. 22 30 31
After the defeat of Justicia and the other threats surrounding the Grail, Morgan begins the purification ritual in the underground cavern. As her Servant manifestation starts to fade, Xi Jianxi asks her to remain and form a new contract with him; she accepts. 46
Following the war, Morgan adopts the low-profile identity Toneriko (Ash) for travel with Xi Jianxi. They later travel to Blackmore Cemetery and Blackmore Village, where a statue of the Black Madonna bears a striking resemblance to her. 47 50
Appearance
Morgan is described as a peerlessly beautiful woman who draws attention even when accompanying Xi Jianxi and the children in public. She adapts easily to modern clothing, but can shift into a combat outfit when preparing to fight. 4 23
- Often appears in modern casual clothing and wears glasses at times. 21
- Uses a blue kimono on at least one occasion. 41
- Her combat attire manifests alongside her Demon Spear. 6
- Resembles Artoria closely enough that their sisterhood is immediately apparent to observers. 6
- The statue known as the Black Madonna strongly resembles Morgan's face and features. 50
Personality
Morgan is calm, poised, and difficult to read. She treats Xi Jianxi's relaxed attitude toward the Holy Grail War with amusement, yet values his refusal to see Servants as mere familiars. She recognizes the unusual “human warmth” of his home and considers the presence of Sakura and Karen an improvement rather than a flaw in his workshop. 3 24
She frequently teases Xi Jianxi by calling him her husband or framing her actions as “wifely duties.” Beneath the teasing, she is observant and protective: she shields him from Gilgamesh, gives him strategic counsel, and accepts his protection when he insists on taking the front line. 10 12 27 45
Morgan can be cold and ruthless toward enemies, particularly Zouken Matou, Ryunosuke Uryu, and those who endanger civilians. She shows notable discomfort around insects and reacts harshly to the Matou family's insect magecraft. 4 27 29
Her obsessions are complex. Morgan claims no simple relationship to Artoria's affairs as a queen, yet acknowledges that her obsessions sometimes concern Britain and that she and Artoria are alike in their attachment to it. 26 31
Abilities & Skills
Age of Gods Magecraft
Morgan is an Age of Gods magus whose magical ability greatly exceeds that expected of a modern Servant. Artoria judges her battlefield magecraft as potentially surpassing Merlin's. 3 7
- Launches ranged magical bombardments, including explosive attacks formed from condensed energy. 6
- Can attack a target through their body using manifested blue spears. 6
- Creates identical clones of herself to overwhelm opponents; this allows her to defeat Diarmuid after a direct spear duel. 20
- Uses Azure Flames to kill Ryunosuke Uryu. 27
- Casts defensive and strengthening spells on allies and raises the ground to keep them clear of contaminated mud. 43
- Produces dense fog capable of isolating an active battlefield from ordinary civilians. 27
Greater Holy Grail Analysis
Morgan possesses extensive knowledge of magical systems and investigates the Fuyuki Grail directly.
- Locates the Greater Holy Grail beneath Mount Enzou by tracing the city's spiritual veins. 4
- Easily bypasses the cavern's barriers against Servants and spiritual bodies. 4
- Determines that the Grail's mana is corrupted rather than colorless and demonstrates the abnormality to the other Masters. 30 31
- Identifies Irisviel as the Lesser Holy Grail and Kiritsugu Emiya as Artoria's true Master. 22
- Seeks to obtain and analyze the principles of the Third Magic, materialization of the soul. 42
Demon Spear
Morgan's primary weapon is a magically forged Demon Spear, which combines the functions of a staff, spear, and blade. 3 30
- Its balance and weight distribution make it practical for close combat as well as magecraft. 30
- Can transform into other forms, including a two-handed greatsword and a longsword comparable in specifications to Artoria's Holy Sword. 30 35
- Morgan lends it to Xi Jianxi when battlefield conditions require them to fight separately. 27 35
- Her spear technique mirrors Xi Jianxi's and incorporates elements recognizable to Celtic warriors. 19 20
- While Morgan admits Diarmuid surpasses her in pure spear technique, she compensates with tactics, range control, magecraft, and cloning. 20
Roadless Camelot
Roadless Camelot is Morgan's Noble Phantasm. Seated upon a throne, she manifests dark ripples in an aurora-lit sky and summons green Demon Spears to impale targets across the battlefield. 28
- Annihilates Caster's Sea Monster and Caster during the Miyuen River battle. 28
- Releases condensed mana as cold, brilliant flames after the Demon Spears strike. 28
- Its apparent exhaustion cost is partly deceptive; Morgan feigns being unable to stand so Xi Jianxi will carry her, though a second use would only be somewhat less efficient. 28
Lost Will
Lost Will is Morgan's magic, used in the conflict surrounding Artoria and the Einzbern castle. 33 35
- Places Artoria in an experience confronting her past, Britain's history, and the implications of her wish. 35
- Can be breached by an intruder with “no heart,” an event Morgan considers unexpected. 35
Equipment
- Demon Spear — Transforming staff-spear-blade used for close combat and magecraft. 3 30
- Glasses — Worn while in casual modern attire. 21
Relationships
- Xi Jianxi — Her Master during the Fuyuki Holy Grail War and her partner under a new post-war contract. Morgan repeatedly calls him her husband, while he treats her as a respected Heroic Spirit rather than a disposable familiar. 5 12 46
- Artoria Pendragon — Her sister and initial enemy in the war. Their relationship remains hostile and complicated, but Morgan understands Artoria's origins and shares her attachment to Britain. 6 26 31
- Sakura Tohsaka — Xi Jianxi's adopted daughter and Morgan's student in ancient magecraft, particularly because Sakura possesses the rare Imaginary Numbers element. 5 13
- Karen — Xi Jianxi's adopted daughter. Karen and Sakura call Morgan “Mother,” and Morgan spends time with them during their outings. 23 24
- Gilgamesh — An opponent Morgan recognizes from prior encounters. She considers him dangerous enough to personally shield Xi Jianxi from him. 10 14
- Zouken Matou — A hostile insect mage whose decayed lineage and methods Morgan openly despises. 4 28
- Tokiomi Tohsaka — Sakura's biological father and Gilgamesh's Master. Morgan refuses his assistance against Caster's Master, judging modern magi unable to contribute meaningfully unless they match Xi Jianxi. 27
