Ever since learning that his mutant limit was only Level Two, he had been thinking about how to make the most of his abilities.
He could not do what Magneto did—stop and reflect countless bullets and even missiles. Nor could he lift things weighing thousands or tens of thousands of tons, fly using magnetism, or alter Earth's magnetic field.
But he felt that the Experimental Base Instructor's method of training him to control daggers for killing was simply too low-level.
Daggers were inferior to needles. At the very least, he could control more of them at greater speed. Their power might be weaker, but if they targeted vital points like the seven orifices, the results should not be bad.
Of course, after much thought, he believed that if he wanted to maximize the power of magnetism, he still had to rely on firearms.
Bullets fired from guns were far superior in both speed and damage to any sharp weapon he could control. As long as he slightly altered a bullet's trajectory, he could become a marksman beyond human limits.
For now, it was only submachine guns. If his abilities grew stronger in the future and he could control the trajectories of heavy machine-gun bullets, that would be truly formidable.
He would truly be able to hold a pass alone against ten thousand men. By himself, he could deal with every guard in the entire base.
"Move!"
With most of two magazines spent, every guard in the cafeteria had fallen. George waved at the stunned Gabriella and the confused Little Wolf Girl.
"Laura, let's go."
Coming back to her senses, Gabriella hurried forward, grabbed Little Wolf Girl, and ran toward George.
Of course she knew Experiment Subject 757. However, unlike the other mutant children, this directly created adult mutant did not need nurses like them to care for him. Dedicated personnel were responsible for him instead.
But since he was willing to help, he definitely was not an enemy.
Leading Gabriella and Little Wolf Girl as they sprinted along, they soon caught up with the children ahead. But George did not dare let his guard down, because he knew the guards at this Experimental Base numbered far more than this.
It was simply that they had not expected a situation like this, so they had not fully reacted yet.
And there was no ruling out the possibility that they had more advanced and more destructive weapons.
He might have looked impressive just now, taking out a group of guards in the blink of an eye with two submachine guns, but that was mainly because Little Wolf Girl had drawn their fire, allowing him to launch a surprise attack.
Honestly, in his current state, even encountering a sniper would be a huge problem.
Some specially modified Barrett heavy sniper rifles used high-penetration bullets that could punch through thick concrete walls with a single shot. If one sniped him from a distance, his magnetism would be unable to deflect the bullet. He might be killed before he even had time to react.
So now was not the time to relax.
Fortunately, nothing unexpected happened along the rest of the route. They did not encounter the sniper he feared or Wolverine's duplicate, and they successfully reached the outside of the Experimental Base.
"Do you know roughly where the base's most important laboratories and archives are?"
After helping the children into the cargo compartment of the truck, George did not immediately climb aboard. Instead, he asked Gabriella.
Though Gabriella was somewhat puzzled, she quickly pointed out two directions.
"There and there."
"Good. Before we leave, let's give them some gifts."
George opened the bag on his back and took out more than a dozen grenades he had collected from the guards' corpses.
It was not just grenades. His bag also contained some cash he had casually searched from them, so he would not be completely penniless after getting out.
"I hope you like them."
Using his ability, he controlled the grenades and fired them precisely toward the two locations Gabriella had indicated, then pulled their pins simultaneously in midair.
Moments later, deafening explosions erupted, and those two areas of the Experimental Base instantly turned into seas of fire.
"Let's go!"
Only after seeing that his goal had been achieved did George get into the truck with the open-mouthed Gabriella.
His purpose was simple. It would be best if the explosions killed the Experimental Base's upper management. Even if they did not, they would create chaos, destroy important research materials, and slow the enemy's pursuit.
And he had indeed achieved his goal.
An hour later, the soot-covered Dr. Rice slapped Commander Donald across the face and roared furiously:
"Useless trash! I told you to deal with that garbage, and you made such a mess of it! Most of them escaped, and you destroyed so much of my important data! If X-24 hadn't been alright, I'd throw you into the Incinerator right now!"
"Boss, it was my mistake. I didn't expect those nurses to help them escape."
Donald did not care about the pain in his face at all. He merely lowered his head respectfully.
Dr. Rice took a deep breath, calmed his tone, and ordered:
"Things have already reached this point. I don't want to hear your excuses. I want you to capture those escaped mutant children and dispose of them as quickly as possible. We cannot let other organizations discover them."
As the head of one of the world's famous companies, with secret ties to many terrorist organizations, he understood that this world was not simple. In particular, there was the colossal organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D.
If S.H.I.E.L.D. discovered that mutants still existed, they would certainly follow the trail of those mutants to him. That would be troublesome.
Before he had replicated mutants in large numbers, he did not want to oppose S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Keep me informed of everything. If necessary, I'll bring X-24 to help. It will also be a good chance to test X-24's actual combat performance."
"Yes, Boss!"
Donald nodded, then left the half-destroyed laboratory to gather his men.
"How did the investigation go?"
"Commander, according to our findings, it seems to have been caused by Experiment Subject 757. Based on—"
A squad leader quickly gave him the investigation results.
Donald frowned after listening.
"So it was him. How could a mere Level Two mutant possess such strength?"
He had been directing the battle the entire time, so he naturally knew what had happened.
Although the mutant children had escaped control with the help of several nurses, he had quickly sent more men over to stabilize the situation.
If nothing went wrong, they should have been able to block all the escaping mutant children at the cafeteria. Yet for some reason, after a burst of gunfire, his men had all gone silent.
He had been preparing to lead more men in pursuit when the explosions startled him into rushing back.
He had no choice. One of the explosions had occurred near the big boss's laboratory, so he did not dare stay away.
"It should be correct. Captain Bis, who was responsible for dealing with Experiment Subject 757, was killed. Although he destroyed every surveillance camera along the way, our trace-analysis specialists still found traces of him heading toward the cafeteria.
"However, judging from the bodies, aside from a few who died from daggers, most suffered gunshot wounds. Nearly every shot was fatal."
The squad leader explained.
"A sharpshooter? But he doesn't seem to have any abilities related to that."
Donald frowned deeply, looking puzzled.
Mutants with the potential to become sharpshooters generally either possessed superhuman eyesight or special motion-tracking abilities, reflexes, and so on. Yet according to what he knew, Experiment Subject 757 possessed Psychic Abilities and magnetism control.
"Perhaps we should ask the boss about this."
He only understood combat command. Researching mutant abilities was the boss's responsibility.
But when he considered that the boss was still furious, he gave up on the idea.
Besides, even if he was a sharpshooter, without specialized training, he was nothing much.
