Murder, or an Accident?
Night, the Bronx, inside the most luxurious nightclub on Carlson family turf.
Deafening music, men and women twisting their bodies wildly, explicit and seductive performances on the stage, and addicts in the corners who had paid for all kinds of contraband and were getting high.
George sat at the bar and ordered a drink, sipping it half-intentionally while searching the place for his target.
According to the intel Leon had given him, this nightclub controlled by the Carlson family was now managed by Carlson's youngest son, Young Carlson, and Young Carlson came by almost every night.
Young Carlson's greatest hobby was women—especially young, energetic women. Better yet if they had not entered society yet, or had only just done so.
With his status, all he had to do was spend a little money and crowds of young, energetic female university students would be willing to keep him company, but what he liked was that feeling of conquest.
So he came to his own nightclub every day to look for prey.
Once he found a target, he would have his men forcibly bring her back to his private VIP room in the club. If he was extremely satisfied, he would even do it himself.
The craziest time, he had even started the show right in the middle of the nightclub dance floor, in full view of everyone.
And afterward, as the heir of the Carlson family, he would give them some money and make a few threats. Girls from ordinary families with no background, for the safety of themselves and their families, could only swallow their broken teeth.
If they dared resist, at worst, he would just have them dumped in the sea.
Even those with a bit of background did not dare clash head-on with the Carlson family.
As for those the Carlson family truly could not afford to provoke, they knew exactly what kind of place this nightclub was and would never come here to have fun in the first place.
The people who came to his nightclub were either veterans, the sort who came here to go wild and get high, or young people who did not yet understand what his club was like.
They were too naive and foolish. Some came out of curiosity, some wanted to encounter beautiful love in a nightclub, to meet a tall, handsome, rich man and spend a wonderful night with him.
But cruel reality would teach them how the world worked, and make them understand that staying far away from danger was the best way to protect themselves.
"He's here!"
Seeing a strongly built bald man walk into the nightclub with a group of underlings, then openly sit down in the club's exclusive luxury booth, George slowly rose to his feet.
Killing Young Carlson would be easy. He could control a blade and send it straight over to slit Young Carlson's throat, but that was not what he wanted.
Because that would affect the chaos. If things went wrong, the Carlson family higher-ups would all be scared into hiding, and then the matter would become troublesome.
Besides, the higher-ups of the Thirteen families being assassinated one after another would likewise cause a sensation.
So if possible, it was best not to be so direct. What he wanted was to make these higher-ups die in a reasonable way, to make everything look like an accident.
He did not want anyone connecting this matter to a supernatural incident.
Even when he had saved Leon last time, outsiders thought Leon himself had counter-killed Chebel on the rooftop, not that the Mysterious Person had helped him.
"Looks like I'm in luck today. Found myself a little stunner."
Not long after Young Carlson sat down, he found a satisfactory prey in the central dance floor.
She had a good face, a tall figure, and most importantly, that air about her. One look and he could tell she was a newcomer here for the first time. She could not even let loose while dancing. Most likely, she was still a student.
"Boss, looks like she's about to leave. Want us to go straight over and tie her up for you?"
The underling beside him was good at reading the room and immediately asked.
But Young Carlson set down his glass and waved a hand.
"This time, I want to go myself. She reminds me of that girl from last time. Pity that girl killed herself in the end. Otherwise, I could've had a few more rounds with her."
"Looks like the boss is planning to do it right on the dance floor this time."
Hearing Young Carlson's words, those underlings all grew excited as well. What kind of boss raised what kind of underlings—they were all the same sort of filth.
Young Carlson got up and strode quickly into the dance floor, stopping the girl amid the noisy crowd before she could leave.
First came a round of verbal harassment, and then he began putting his hands on her.
The girl wanted to resist, but how could she be a match for the tall, broad Young Carlson? On top of that, Young Carlson's threats frightened her badly.
As for the companions who had come with the girl, they had long since been surrounded by Young Carlson's men and were unable to move.
Yet just as Young Carlson was about to succeed, George, within the crowd, also arrived at the spot closest to Young Carlson.
"Tarantella dance!"
A thin beam of blue light, amid the dazzling colors of the dance floor, shot soundlessly into Young Carlson.
After being struck by the blue light, Young Carlson suddenly stopped groping her. His legs began twitching uncontrollably, as if he were dancing an extremely difficult quickstep.
When his underlings saw their boss suddenly getting in the mood and dancing at a time like this, they thought the boss had come up with some new trick, and at once began loudly cheering him on, applauding their boss's dance.
The girl, whose clothes had been torn nearly half open, also froze, not knowing why this bully in front of her had suddenly started dancing.
Even more dumbfounded was Young Carlson himself, because even he did not know why he had suddenly started dancing.
"Leg lock curse!"
The Dancing Curse was immediately followed by the leg-locking curse. Young Carlson looked as if he had accidentally tripped while dancing; his center of gravity went unstable, and he fell backward.
If it were only a fall, naturally, it would have been nothing.
The key was that at the same moment he fell, a stud on a nearby punk's studded leather jacket suddenly popped loose and dropped to the ground, happening to roll right where Young Carlson was falling.
"Hiss!"
The nail pointed upward and drove viciously into the back of Young Carlson's head. Blood poured out, and he died on the spot.
"Someone's dead! Someone's dead!"
For a moment, the dance floor was filled with screams. Everyone scattered and fled, and George quietly left the nightclub with the crowd.
Naturally, that nail had not been an accident. It had been controlled by his ability.
Two hours later, the grief-stricken Old Carlson was in the dance hall, listening to a report from his men.
"Based on the surveillance footage and investigation, we can confirm that this really was just an accident. It wasn't a deliberate murder."
"I told him long ago to show some restraint, but he wouldn't listen. He brought this on himself.
Sink all the men who were supposed to protect him into the sea and feed them to the fish!"
After confirming that his son had not been murdered, but had died in an accident, Old Carlson sighed, rose with the help of his cane, and left the nightclub.
His son's death pained him, but what gave him an even greater headache was the impact brought by the death of his heir.
Originally, his son had been the heir, and the family's upper ranks had been willing to assist him. Recently, they had also swallowed up some of the Chebel family's territory, and everything had been developing in a good direction.
But now his only heir was dead. The family's upper ranks would definitely start getting restless. If he handled things poorly afterward, the entire family might fall into chaos.
When the time came, everyone would want to fight for his position. It would absolutely be ten times more chaotic than the Chebel family. One wrong move, and even he would be dragged down with it.
"My body is still in decent shape. I can keep them under control. Looks like I need to settle on a new heir as soon as possible."
