Even if some accident really did happen and he got killed, there was nothing George could do about it. At worst, the stock would fall again and he would lose some money. Once he grew stronger in the future, he would naturally have a chance to earn it back through other means.
For him right now, building a relationship with Tony Stark would certainly be better for his future development, but if he did not make this move, it was not as if he had nowhere else to go.
Money was a universal equivalent. It was only useful when spent; if it was not spent, it was just wastepaper.
No matter how badly Stark Industries' stock fell, the company's scale was still there. The shares could still be exchanged for a good deal of money, enough to cover their expenses for seven or eight years.
By then, he would have long since learned the Muggle Repelling Charm and the Loyalty Charm, and he would not have to worry about the school's safety issues either.
So putting his energy into magic was the most important thing. Everything else was secondary.
