Xu Fan built his pill-refining and artifact-refining skills while preparing for the Mystic Realm, where he befriended Ye Xiaoyao and rescued Wang Yulun and Murong Qian'er from Spirit Devouring Bees. After learning why they had risked provoking the bees, he returned to their territory to seek Spirit Devouring Honey.

• Xu Fan sold Spirit Rice, took up pill refining, and began earning Spirit Stones while keeping his identity confidential.
• Xu Fan encouraged Zhang Weiyun to accept Venerable Xuanqing as her master, then joined Pang Fu's alliance and turned his attention to artifact refining.
• Xu Fan agreed to enter the Mystic Realm with Wang Yulun and Murong Qian'er, refined several artifacts, and broke through to the Qi Refining Fifth Layer.

Xu Fan took in Xu Gang and Xu Yuexian as disciples, settled them near the Outer Sect, and helped Wang Yulun and Murong Qian'er prepare for their child. He later boarded the Floating Sky Vessel, entered the Endless Sea, and began refining artifacts with Sha Diao in Zhenhai City.

• Xu Fan escaped the Desire Devil Sect’s pursuit only to be struck by a Death Soul Worm, then woke after Little Fang and his sister rescued him and accepted them as disciples.
• Xu Fan named the siblings Xu Gang and Xu Yuexian, helped provide for their elders, and moved his disciples to a secluded mountain where he built them a home.
• Xu Fan promised to support Wang Yulun and Murong Qian'er, agreed to take their unborn child as a disciple, and warned them about the risks of the Myriad Universe Fetal Spirit Pill.
• Xu Fan trained Xu Gang and Xu Yuexian, gave them secret techniques and custom artifacts, and sensed danger surrounding Wang Yulun before he left on a Mystic Realm mission.

Xu Fan expanded his artifact and puppet work, helped his disciples explore a Mystic Realm, and followed Ye Xiaoyao’s increasingly dangerous adventures from afar. The stretch ended with Xu Fan accepting Li Xingci as his fourth disciple while still questioning the limits of his own cultivation.

• Xu Fan rescued Ye Xiaoyao from a Gold Devouring Swordfish, and a Spatial Rift swept them into a Minor World where they escaped after ten days.
• Xu Fan returned to the Heavenly Gate Sect, refined new artifacts, uncovered a Demon Race infiltration plot, and helped free Wang Yulun and Murong Qian'er from Fox Demon influence.
• Xu Fan developed the Heart of Puppets and explored a rune trial on a rusted iron plate while Ye Xiaoyao was sent toward the Demonic Spirit Realm by a Teleportation Array.
• Xu Fan joined Xu Yuexian and Xu Gang in a Mystic Realm, where his puppet army gathered treasures and defeated Golden Core Stage Demon Beasts.
• The Great Butcher Demon Venerable seized Ye Xiaoyao and proposed making him a disciple, while Xu Fan returned from the Mystic Realm with valuable loot.
