Hongjun paid no heed to the crowd's emotions. His gaze turned to Nuwa, and his tone softened by a degree.
"Nuwa, you too are my direct disciple. In the future, there will be a great deed of merit that none but you can accomplish, one you must complete with your own hands. Such an opportunity is enough to support your ascension to sainthood."
As he spoke, the fourth strand of Primordial Violet Qi drifted out slowly, merging into Nuwa's brow.
"Thank you, Master!" Nuwa rose and bowed, her eyes brimming with surprise. At the same time, she stole a glance at her elder brother Fuxi beside her, a trace of apology in her gaze.
Though her brother had cultivated alongside her, he had no share in the Violet Qi.
Seeing this, Fuxi shook his head with a smile, reached out, and patted her shoulder, his eyes warm.
"Little sister, being able to obtain such an opportunity makes your brother's heart happy enough. You need not dwell on it."
To him, his sister's achievement mattered far more than whether he himself became a saint.
Just as everyone expected the fifth Violet Qi to fall into Haotian's hands, Haotian suddenly rose, cupped his hands toward Hongjun, and spoke.
"Master, your disciple's path does not lie in entrusting oneself to the Heavenly Dao, but in transcending it."
"Though the Primordial Violet Qi is excellent, it is not what your disciple seeks. I beg Master to bestow it upon one who needs it more."
Jade Pool also rose, her voice gentle yet resolute.
"Your disciple's cultivation is aided by my senior brother, and I also have an Innate Spiritual Root to nourish my Dao Heart. I too have no need for the shackles of Primordial Violet Qi. I am willing to follow my senior brother in forgoing it."
At these words, the entire Purple Firmament Palace fell into dead silence.
Everyone stared in shock. The Primordial Violet Qi was the key to becoming a saint, a supreme treasure dreamed of by countless Innate Great Powers.
These two simply gave it up as if it meant nothing?
Dijun and Taiyi exchanged glances, their eyes filled with disbelief.
Jieyin and Zhunti were frozen in place. They had assumed Haotian and Jade Pool would seize the remaining two strands of Violet Qi, yet now the tide had turned, rekindling their hope.
"Nonsense!" an Innate Great Power couldn't help but bark, only to be firmly held back by those beside him. The decisions of the Mystic Gate's direct disciples were not for others to question.
Hongjun looked at Haotian, a flicker of approval passing through his eyes, and nodded slowly. "Your talent is exceptional. You were always meant to walk the great path of proving the Dao through strength."
"The Heavenly Dao's restraint from the Primordial Violet Qi would indeed limit your future."
"With your protection, Jade Pool, and the Ren Water Flat Peach to solidify her foundation, she can break through on her own talent in the future. This item is indeed useless to the two of you."
These words let Jieyin and Zhunti breathe a full sigh of relief. They exchanged a glance, their eyes burning with urgency.
Four strands of Violet Qi had now been distributed. Three remained. Surely there should be a share for them.
But Hongjun suddenly lowered his head in thought, as if he had forgotten them entirely.
Time trickled by. Jieyin and Zhunti's heartbeats quickened, cold sweat soaking their Dao robes.
They recalled the barren Western Spirit Veins, the wounds left by Luohu's self-destruction. If they could not become saints, the West would never rise!
Finally, Zhunti could bear it no longer. Crawling forward on his knees a few steps, he choked out toward the high platform.
"Dao Ancestor! The Western Spirit Veins are severed, and the beings there suffer in their cultivation."
"Your disciples are willing to beg for a thread of hope for the West. We implore the Dao Ancestor to grant us the Primordial Violet Qi, to help us revive the West and protect the Sentient Beings of the Primordial Wilderness!"
Jieyin also knelt, tears streaming down his aged face. "Dao Ancestor, have mercy! Though we two are dull in talent, we are willing to devote our entire lives to walking the Dao path."
"If we obtain the Violet Qi, we will never forget the Dao Ancestor's teachings and will guard the order of the Primordial Wilderness!"
As they spoke, the two burst into loud wails, their cries of grief echoing through the Purple Firmament Palace.
"Here they go again..." The faces of those in the hall were full of contempt.
Last time during the first lecture at Purple Firmament Palace, these two had cried their way into seizing the Cushions. Now they wanted to cry their way into obtaining the Violet Qi. They had absolutely no bearing as Great Powers!
Dijun and Taiyi frowned but also grew wary. If this trick actually worked, they might have to swallow their pride as well.
Hongjun grew somewhat annoyed by the crying. His brow furrowed slightly as he spoke in a deep voice.
"Crying and shouting—what kind of conduct is this?" He paused. "Still, the second of you has no master-disciple fate with me, yet you do possess the foundation to become a saint."
"Today, I will accept you two as nominal disciples. These two strands of Primordial Violet Qi, I bestow upon you as well."
As his words fell, the fifth and sixth strands of Primordial Violet Qi flew out, merging into the Primordial Spirits of Jieyin and Zhunti.
The two immediately stopped crying, their faces brimming with ecstasy as they kowtowed repeatedly toward the high platform.
"Thank you, Dao Ancestor! Your disciples will not fail your trust. We will revive the West!"
They cared nothing for the contempt of others. As long as they obtained the Violet Qi and revived the West, this bit of humiliation was utterly insignificant.
The crowd in the hall was completely dumbfounded. So crying really could get you the Primordial Violet Qi?
After a brief daze, no one knew which Innate Great Power started it, but a wailing cry suddenly rang out.
"Dao Ancestor! Your disciple is willing to exhaust himself for the Primordial Wilderness. I beg you to grant the Violet Qi!"
Then more wails rose one after another, and the entire Purple Firmament Palace descended into a scene of chaotic frenzy.
Dijun and Taiyi exchanged a glance. Gritting their teeth, they set aside their pride, rose, and cupped their hands toward the high platform, their voices deliberately laced with sorrow.
"Dao Ancestor! The Demon Race rules the starry sky, protecting the countless beings of the stars. We are willing to contribute to the stability of the Primordial Wilderness. We beg the Dao Ancestor to grant the final strand of Primordial Violet Qi!"
As they spoke, they even squeezed a few tears from their eyes, lowering their posture as much as possible.
Face is important, but the position of a Saint was right before their eyes. If they missed it because they couldn't set aside their pride, that would be the true regret.
Zhenyuanzi shook his head and did not follow the trend. He knew well that his own talent was limited.
Even if he obtained the Primordial Violet Qi, the path to sainthood would be fraught with difficulties. It was better to focus on tending the Ginseng Fruit Tree and guarding his own Dao path.
Although Hongyun's expression was complicated, he felt no regret. From the moment he had sat down on that cushion, he had sensed that it did not belong to him.
He was, by nature, someone who went with the flow. Since it wasn't his, he simply wouldn't take it.
But now, it seemed he had unknowingly offended people nonetheless.
Thinking this, his mood grew even more tangled, and in the end, he could only choose to close his eyes and rest.
Meanwhile, within the Purple Firmament Palace, the wailing rose and fell in waves, shaking even the Dao Patterns on the pillars and beams until they trembled faintly.
Hongjun's brows were tightly knit, clearly annoyed by the clamorous scene.
He raised a hand and pressed down lightly. An invisible pressure spread out, instantly suppressing all the crying.
"The final Violet Qi cannot be decided by me. It depends entirely on personal opportunity."
His tone carried a hint of impatience. With a flick of his finger, the pale purple stream of energy suspended in the void suddenly came alive, darting through the hall like a spiritual serpent.
"Seize it!" someone barked in a low voice, and the hall erupted into chaos.
Dijun's River Diagram and Luo Book blazed with spiritual light as he tried to bind the Violet Qi with the Star Law.
Taiyi gripped the Eastern Emperor Bell, its chime reverberating as he attempted to halt the Violet Qi's trajectory with the sound.
Kunpeng transformed into his true form, his massive wings stirring up fierce gales as he tried to sweep the Violet Qi into his embrace.
Even many Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals refused to be outdone, summoning their spiritual treasures to snare or lure it, their gazes locked onto the stream of energy that led to the position of a Saint.
But the Primordial Violet Qi was inherently imbued with the Heavenly Dao Origin and possessed its own intelligence.
Facing the encirclement and interception of a host of Innate Great Powers, it dodged left and right, nimbly evading the bindings of the River Diagram and Luo Book, slipping past the vibrations of the Chaos Bell.
It even used the wind stirred up by Kunpeng's wings to accelerate, weaving its way to the back rows of the hall.
There, Hongyun sat upright on his cushion, trying to close his eyes and ignore the commotion, hoping that what he couldn't see wouldn't trouble him.
Just as everyone assumed the Primordial Violet Qi would continue its escape, it suddenly changed direction, like a bolt of purple lightning, and plunged straight into Hongyun's brow, merging into his Primordial Spirit.
"Boom!" The entire Purple Firmament Palace fell into dead silence. Everyone stared at Hongyun in disbelief, their eyes filled with shock.
Dijun's River Diagram and Luo Book hung motionless in midair. Taiyi's Chaos Bell fell silent. Kunpeng's wings froze in place, his earlier eagerness instantly turning to a livid expression.
He had exhausted his schemes, even harbored a grudge against this fellow Hongyun, and yet, in the end, this Violet Qi had chosen Hongyun of its own accord?
"Why?" a Great Power couldn't help but growl, his voice twisted with envy.
"Hongyun voluntarily gave up the front-row cushion. He's not even a nominal disciple of the Mystic Gate. Why does he deserve the Violet Qi?"
More gazes fell upon Hongyun—some envious, some resentful, and some carrying undisguised murderous intent.
The Three Pure Ones, Nuwa, Jieyin, and Zhunti were the six disciples of the Mystic Gate. They could not be touched, nor dared they be touched, for none of the six were easy to deal with.
But Hongyun was merely a rogue cultivator with no sect or affiliation. If they could seize the Violet Qi from him, perhaps they too might have a chance to attain the position of a Saint!
