Background / History
After the Great Dao withdrew into the Chaos Depths, the Heavenly Dao assumed responsibility for operating the Primordial Wilderness. The Great Dao’s later appearance during Houtu’s vow was treated as extraordinary precisely because it no longer ordinarily intervened in the world. 99
The Heavenly Dao bears Pangu’s aura and was personally created by him. After Haotian received Pangu’s entrustment of the Three Thousand Laws, the Heavenly Dao extended him goodwill: Innate Spiritual Qi actively gathered around him, his absorption efficiency rose by thirty percent, and Heavenly Dao Power aided his observation of the River of Time. 51
It presides over the Heavenly Dao path to sainthood. Primordial Violet Qi gave Laozi, Yuanshi, and Tongtian a connection to the Heavenly Dao and the prospect of lodging their Primordial Spirits in the void; it later answered Tongtian’s founding oath with merit, enabling his ascension. 39 68
The Heavenly Dao also acts to preserve balance. It was identified as the force behind the inevitable separation of the Three Pure Ones, and its human tribulation prevented Saints from freely intervening lest greater karma result. 87 91
Nature and Manifestation
The Heavenly Dao has no fixed physical form. Its will is normally perceived through pressure, law runes, blessings, merit, and world-changing phenomena. 51 519
- Eye of the Heavenly Dao — A golden eye that manifested during Cangjie’s creation of writing and unleashed the final World-Ending Lightning trial. It closed after recognizing Cangjie’s successful “Dao” character. 198
- Voice — When directly communicating with Haotian, it often speaks in a crisp, loli-like voice, showing joy and gratitude. 157 216 378
- Solemn dharma voice — During Buddhism’s establishment, its approval was conveyed in an unusually majestic voice, which Haotian linked to its approaching opportunity for ascension. 370
- Heavenly Dao runes — Golden runes descend to acknowledge oaths and bind those who swear loyalty to the Heavenly Court. 308
