Aegwynn followed Elisande onto a disc-shaped elevator, which slowly ascended. This elevator, a hallmark of magical civilization, was powered entirely by Arcane Crystals at its base, lifting and lowering like a magnetic levitation system.
This was the tallest and grandest Mage Tower in Suramar City. Aegwynn had never seen a super-giant Mage Tower over a hundred stories tall with such a magnificent scale, not even in Dalaran. In the center of the colossal tower was a circular ascending passage, and the suspended disc elevator rose through it layer by layer. On each floor, Aegwynn could see various scenes in the circular hall.
Some were large-scale magical lectures, some were libraries, and some were solemn and quiet laboratories.
It truly lived up to its reputation as a holy city of magic. Dalaran, a city of young mages, simply couldn't compare. After all, Suramar had countless years of history, and the Highborne themselves were the ancestors of magic users.
"Um... Lady Elisande, is Grand-Master... strict? I'm a bit nervous." Aegwynn felt her centuries of composure and pride vanish, as if she had returned to her childhood, feeling the same nervousness and uncertainty she had when she first met Merith Winterwind and became his disciple.
Elisande looked at Aegwynn with amusement. "Don't worry, the Master is very amiable. Besides, you are Merith's only disciple, so the Master will be very happy."
"That's a Faceless One! Lady Elisande! A Faceless One!" As they passed a certain floor, Aegwynn suddenly saw several massive Faceless Ones emitting red light, seemingly casting some evil spell.
"Relax, Aegwynn. Getting so agitated is not how a Guardian of Tirisfal should behave. Those Faceless Ones are the Master's subordinates and have nothing to do with Azeroth's Old Gods."
Aegwynn was speechless for a long time. What exactly had happened in Suramar City? What kind of existence was her Grand-Master? She could see all sorts of strange things here.
The elevator finally reached the very top. It was a quiet hall, like a reception room, furnished with comfortable cushioned sofas. Wine and food on the tables suggested that guests could eat and drink freely while waiting. A tall, centaur-shaped Arcane Golem stood silently by the stairs in the depths. Apart from golden armor on its key parts, the rest of the golem was made of red, unknown energy.
Aegwynn immediately recognized the golem's terrifying power. These golems, crafted using ancient methods lost to the outside world, were incredibly fierce, capable of engaging in both close-quarters and ranged combat, making them truly all-round talents.
Elisande led Aegwynn over. "Ktilax, did the Zealot take over guard duty today?"
The golem named Ktilax experienced a surge of energy. The red energy throughout its body immediately shifted to purple Arcane energy, with the Mystic persona taking control.
"Ah, Lady Elisande, I was resting for a bit just now, so I let that impulsive fellow take my place. Hmm... it seems we have guests?" Ktilax glanced at Aegwynn behind Elisande, then moved aside from the stairs. "Please, the Master is waiting for you."
Pose and personality switching! This kind of golem was simply god-tier! Aegwynn's eyes, filled with a thirst for knowledge, were fixed on Ktilax, as if she wanted to dismantle it to find out more. Her artifact, the talkative staff "Aluneth Guardian's Staff," had been silent since entering Suramar. However, Aegwynn, familiar with its nature, knew that her staff had encountered too many powerful beings and was currently feeling a bit intimidated.
"That staff seems to have a consciousness?" Ktilax looked at Aluneth. "Hmm... this is a good thing. It would make an excellent snack for the Master's Origin of Divine Power."
Aegwynn felt her staff tremble and complain to her mentally. "Master! Get out of here quickly! I never want to come to this terrifying place called Suramar again! Everyone here is a devil!"
Elisande couldn't help but laugh and cry. She glared at Ktilax. "Don't be rude. This is the Master's disciple's disciple, and currently the Guardian of Tirisfal. You must show proper respect."
Ktilax shook its head and said no more.
Entering the inner hall, a large open space was cleared in the center, apparently a golem workbench. A circle of bookshelves and a few sofas were placed around. The door to the living quarters was closed, and Aegwynn couldn't see inside.
Aegwynn saw the legendary Grand-Master sitting on a terrace ahead, flipping through something. A magnificent, enormous staff floated around the hall by itself, with a floating Eye of Magic at its tip, constantly looking left and right. The staff seemed to sense something, and the Eye of Magic looked towards Elisande and Aegwynn... and Aluneth behind Aegwynn, then it suddenly floated over.
A mental message entered both their minds: Little girl, your staff is good, very promising, I think highly of it! Give it to me! I will teach it well, ah~~ this will surely be delicious... no, it will definitely be taught to become a promising young staff!
Aegwynn looked extremely nervous, clutching Aluneth tightly. She had long heard from her teacher that her Grand-Master possessed an ultimate artifact staff and was extremely greedy. She hadn't understood what "extremely greedy" meant before, but now she did...
"Stop scaring people, get back here and stay put!" At this moment, the Grand-Master's voice came, and Aegwynn immediately felt relieved. The greedy staff reluctantly floated back behind Hu Feng.
"Come over here, I'm almost done reading."
The two women walked over and sat on chairs in front of Hu Feng. This terrace was located at the highest point of Suramar, offering a panoramic view of any corner of Suramar City below.
Hu Feng placed the continental intelligence report he was holding on the table and looked at Aegwynn.
"Merith is doing well. He can teach Guardians now. Where is he? Did he go into seclusion in the south again?"
Aegwynn quickly nodded nervously. "Yes, Grand-Master. After I completed my apprenticeship, Teacher returned to the southern Stormwind Kingdom to live in seclusion. I tried to persuade him to stay multiple times, but he insisted on doing so."
Hu Feng nodded, a little helplessly. "That kid Merith, I already told him he could transform into an Undead when necessary. What, does he think I'll be furious and afraid to face me? Really..."
Aegwynn dared not reply. This was her Grand-Master complaining about her teacher, and as his disciple, it would be unwise to join in the complaint.
"I heard you're going to Northrend on your way here this time? What for?"
Aegwynn said excitedly, "Yes, Grand-Master. I received accurate intelligence that the Dark Titan Sargeras is about to descend upon this world! Uh, of course, in a state where he has abandoned most of his power. So..."
"So you believe this is a rare opportunity to completely destroy Sargeras?"
"That's right! If Grand-Master also came with me..."
"I won't be going. I believe your strength is more than enough to handle it. I'll be waiting for your good news."
Aegwynn was immediately ecstatic. Her Grand-Master acknowledged her strength! He even believed she could confront an Evil God, even though this Evil God had shed nearly ninety-nine percent of his power.
However, she didn't notice the strange look in Hu Feng's eyes.
