Background / History

The Yun Lan Sect was founded by Yun Po Tian, a legendary Dou Zun. By the period discussed by Yao Lao, its later generations had declined severely from that legacy, with Yun Yun as its sole Dou Emperor and its elders generally at Dou Wang level 8.

Zhang Tian joined the sect as a disciple while displaying Four-Star Dou Ling strength. His cultivation rose so quickly that Yun Yun and the elders elevated him to Second Elder after he reached Three-Star Dou Wang; at that time, only First Elder Yun Leng ranked above him in formal status 12. Zhang Tian later became powerful enough to rival and defeat Yun Yun shortly after entering the Dou Emperor realm, substantially increasing the sect's influence and the arrogance of its members outside Yunlan Mountain 16 17.

Yun Shan, the sect's eighth-generation leader and Yun Yun's teacher, eventually emerged from seclusion as a Three-Star Dou Zong. His breakthrough had been enabled by a Soul Hall protector, who placed a restriction on him and ordered him to annex the Gama Empire 44. Yun Shan regarded Zhang Tian as an asset to be exploited for the sect's growth, without knowing Zhang Tian's full strength 44.

Zhang Tian left the Yun Lan Sect after concluding that its ideals no longer aligned with his own. Yun Shan subsequently considered either retaining or killing him, viewing Zhang Tian as a likely obstacle to the sect's imperial ambitions 50.

Yunlan Mountain

Yunlan Mountain serves as the sect's headquarters, containing its main hall, training grounds, elders' residences, and the Life and Death Gate 44 48. Half of the mountain was destroyed during the confrontation involving Xiao Yan, Yao Lao, Yun Shan, and Zhang Tian 55.

Life and Death Gate

The Life and Death Gate is a forbidden area and the resting place of past Yun Lan Sect leaders. Normally, only the successor to each sect leader may enter it 52.

• It was guarded by Dou Ling disciples Yun Ku and Yun Zhi during Yun Shan's seclusion 44.
• Yun Shan used the area for death seclusion and broke through to Dou Zong there 44.
• Zhang Tian arranged for Xiao Yan to receive one opportunity to enter through an agreement with Yun Yun 15.
• Nalan Yanran later entered it for training, prompting concern over how much her cultivation could advance 52.

• Yun Yun — Sect Leader and former disciple of Yun Shan. She attempted to bind Zhang Tian more closely to the sect through exchanges of favors and support for Nalan Yanran's cultivation 15 25.

Major Arcs

Zhang Tian's Admission and Rise

Zhang Tian joined the Yun Lan Sect to gain power and resources, initially appearing in its disciple uniform in Wu Tan City 3. He was later promoted to Second Elder due to his extraordinary cultivation speed and strength 12.

His status became politically sensitive after he surpassed ordinary expectations for a sect elder. While disciples, stewards, and even First Elder Yun Leng treated him with great respect, Yun Yun kept him formally at the rank of Second Elder 17.

Dissolution of Xiao Yan and Nalan Yanran's Engagement

Ge Ye represented the Yun Lan Sect in the attempt to dissolve Nalan Yanran's engagement with Xiao Yan 13. Zhang Tian intervened as Second Elder, defended Xiao Yan, and forced the matter into direct negotiations involving Yun Yun 14.

Yun Yun later agreed to permit Xiao Yan to enter the Life and Death Gate in exchange for Zhang Tian helping Nalan Yanran reach the Dou Shi realm within a year 15.

Yun Shan's Return and Expansion

After emerging from seclusion, Yun Shan learned that Yun Yun had become Sect Leader and that the sect had gained several Dou Huang-level experts 44. Under the Soul Hall's coercion, he prepared the sect to annex the Gama Empire 44.

The Yun Lan Sect destroyed the Chuyun Empire, with Yun Shan suppressing four Dou Huangs, Yun Yun killing a One-Star Dou Huang, and Zhang Tian killing a Six-Star Dou Huang before his official withdrawal from the sect 52.

Battle for the Gama Empire

The sect later fought the Gama Empire alongside the Snake-People Race 53. Yun Yun acted on the sect's behalf, while Zhang Tian repelled several opposing Dou Huang powerhouses during the conflict 53.

Battle on Yunlan Mountain

Following Xiao Yan's victory over Nalan Yanran, Yun Shan attempted to prevent him from leaving Yunlan Mountain. Yun Leng was severely injured while trying to capture Xiao Yan, and Yun Shan fought Xiao Yan while Yao Lao controlled Xiao Yan's body 54.

The ensuing battle destroyed half of Yunlan Mountain, killed Yun Leng, and resulted in the deaths of six or seven elders. Zhang Tian ultimately defeated the severely injured Yun Shan after warning that he would destroy the sect if Yun Shan continued interfering with Xiao Yan 55.
