Amber listened blankly as Gawain explained. Only after he finished did she lower her head to look at her hands, then raise it again in confusion. "So you think what happened at Firmament Station had something to do with me?"
"The hall was filled with Shadow Power. When they cut the thorns, your body went out of control, and you sensed 'limbs' that did not belong to you." Gawain looked very serious. "Of course, I know these are not particularly convincing speculations, but there are too many coincidences. I cannot help connecting them."
"But how could that be..." Amber clenched her fists in confusion, then slowly loosened them. "I'm just an Ordinary Person who has lived on the surface for decades. How could I have anything to do with Firmament Station in space..."
"But you are not an 'Ordinary Person.'" Gawain looked into Amber's eyes. "You know how unusual you are. In fact, nothing that happens to you would surprise me. After all... you can even obtain part of the Night Lady's authority."
Amber pressed her lips together, suddenly realizing that she had no way to refute this. Just as Gawain had said, she had never been an "Ordinary Person" to begin with—she was "Artificial Human No. 36," synthesized by the Gondor Empire. She had a soul from the Shadow Realm. She was the only Shadow Dweller known to survive in the real world, and she had an inexplicable connection to the Goddess of the Night... So many extraordinary traits had gathered in one person. That was destined to bring unusual things upon her.
It was only that, all this time, the "unusual things" in her mind had been limited to this planet. Firmament Station in space... A few years ago, she had not even known that space stations existed!
