Gawain stared at the suddenly appearing Amber, momentarily dazed. It was not only because he had sensed absolutely nothing of her arrival, but also because the torrential chaos in his perceptions and the information storm that had erupted in his mind had left him feeling foggy even now. He roughly remembered what he had seen and heard with Night Lady, the Memory Fragments he had recovered, and his meeting with Gawain Cecil, yet beyond that, he somehow felt that he had forgotten something. That sense of dissonance made him frown.
So he stood where he was and took a moment to compose himself. Only after his mind had settled somewhat did he let out a soft breath, his gaze falling on Amber. "Where did you go earlier? After I arrived in the City of a Thousand Towers, I never saw you or Modir again... Oh, right, where is Modir?"
"Modir and I got out ages ago. He's resting back at camp right now. I sensed your presence and came over to see what was going on," Amber said with a carefree grin, raising a hand to point toward the camp. "We've all been waiting for you here for three days now—we've been wandering around Night Lady's Divine Kingdom this whole time."
Gawain frowned. "You were in Night Lady's Divine Kingdom?"
"Yep, near the Divine Throne. She showed us all sorts of incredible things—ancient observation records, equipment from the Voyagers, that sort of thing. I'll brag all about it to you later," Amber said cheerfully. "But never mind us for now. What about you? What did you see? What did Night Lady tell you? Where are we going afterward?"
