Deep Ruins

Gawain had actually planned to bring Rebecca along as well, but she had been busy with the construction of "Magic Net One" these past days and had not gotten a proper rest in quite a while. Today, she had finally been able to turn in early, so Gawain did not wake her.

Besides, bringing her along would only add one more Fireball Launcher. It probably would not be much use—not as powerful as Gawain drawing his sword and cutting people down himself.

Heti had not gone to rest yet. She was in her tent studying the Systems and Plans Gawain had written when she heard that something had gone wrong with the ruins in the mountain. She immediately threw on an outer robe and hurried over.

Seeing that she looked somewhat nervous, Gawain reassured her, "Don't panic. It was only some unusual noises. Maybe one of the Ancient Facilities in the ruins shifted a little—if it were really a Cave-in, there couldn't possibly be so little commotion."

Heti nodded worriedly.

Knight Byron quickly selected a group of capable soldiers. Then, under Gawain's lead, they passed through the mountain path and arrived before the main entrance of the ancient ruins.

A temporary sentry post made of wooden shacks had been built here. Normally, five soldiers were stationed here to guard the gate. Torches illuminated the area around the entrance, making everything plainly visible: aside from several tense-looking soldiers standing guard, there did not seem to be anything unusual.

"My lord," one of the soldiers came forward and immediately saluted upon seeing Gawain. "There were two more noises from inside just now."

"Mm. I'll take a look myself," Gawain said as he headed toward the entrance. "You lot stay outside and stand guard. Without my orders, no one is to enter."
