Demon Guards and Wrathguards were the backbone of the Burning Legion's vast military might, the vanguard that conquered countless worlds. They were also the strongest permanent demons Sorcerers could summon.
So even though they always made inappropriate remarks after being summoned—things like, "You lowly creature," or, "Have you become incapable of fighting for yourself?"—Sorcerers still eagerly put their faces forward and summoned them again and again.
Wasn't that simply because they were powerful, durable, and useful?
Thus, both Sorcerers and demons had long since grown accustomed to this. In fact, they had gone a step further, interpreting each other's behavior according to their own wishes.
Whenever a Demon Guard appeared and called someone a lowly creature, countless Sorcerers had long regarded it as the textbook example of someone whose words contradicted their true feelings. In the Demon Guards' eyes, meanwhile, Sorcerers were all perverts with severe masochistic tendencies—and they enjoyed it.
So after answering this summons, these demons did not give it much thought. They simply treated it as an ordinary occasion. Some were even excited, since they had not been summoned in a long time.
But once that initial excitement passed and they truly arrived at the summoning site, they felt somewhat confused.
First, there was no Sorcerer who had summoned them to form a contract, nor could they spot any enemy. Second, there seemed to be rather a lot of their kind summoned here this time.
Could it be that the summoner intended to hold a trial, choosing the strongest among them as the one to contract with?
