Geography and Cosmology
Main World
- The Ninja World contains the Main Continent, the New/Primitive Continent, and the Sea of Death; the latter is the only connection identified between the two continents. 447
- Rōran lies near the mapped western edge beyond the Land of Wind and contains the Dragon Vein, a vast Chakra construct described as the landmass's lifeline and center. 208
- The Dragon Vein can connect to specific time-space coordinates. Uchiha Kiyoshi's contact with Anrokuzan's aura sends him into a future time-space. 211
- The world possesses a physical moon, stated to have been artificially created, while its apparent sun, stars, and celestial changes are projections from the Chaos. 459
Pure Land
The Pure Land is the underworld counterpart of the Ninja World and houses souls of the dead; together, the two realms form a single system. 445 The Sage of Six Paths maintains a territory in its first layer and retains a faint connection through which he can sense the Ninja World's general course. 377
During the later upheavals, the boundary between the Pure Land and the living world begins to merge. Uchiha Kiyoshi subsequently refines the Reincarnation Rule and uses it to reorganize the order of both realms. 507
Nature of Reality
Uchiha Kiyoshi concludes that the Ninja World is a lower-dimensional world shaped by fantasy and faith through Chaos Power. Its form can appear as either a planet or a continent depending on perception, though living beings and locations touched by human activity remain real. 447 459
Society and Political Order
Shinobi Villages and Clans
Before its unification, the Ninja World is dominated by the Five Great Shinobi Villages and their associated countries. Village systems weaken independent clans over time, though bloodline clans retain advantages through private instruction, businesses, discounted supplies, and access to cultivation resources such as medicinal baths. 24 84
Clans with Kekkei Genkai guard their bloodlines closely. Their inherited abilities are considered core assets and are not to be allowed to leak to outsiders. 123
- Konoha — A major hidden village whose political system concentrates authority in the Hokage and balances the Uchiha-controlled Military Police Force through its Elders. 388
- Iwagakure — Hosts the Four-Tails and Five-Tails Jinchuriki and possesses Dust Release, a three-nature Kekkei Tōta. 47
- Amegakure / Rain Country — A war-torn region that later becomes the center of Akatsuki's struggle against Amegakure's suppression. 176
- Sunagakure — One of the major villages affected by the Second Shinobi World War and later infiltrated by Maka. 142 322
- Kirigakure — A village whose persecution of Kekkei Genkai clans drives those clans toward rebellion. 299
Academy Access
Conventional Ninja Academies restrict entry through strict evaluations, particularly of identity, while wartime orphanages largely serve children already displaced into a village's reach. Consequently, children born outside shinobi villages have almost no path upward. 347
The Immortal Academy changes this structure by recruiting children under five from across the entire Ninja World. 347
Chakra, Bloodlines, and Cultivation
Chakra and Nature Transformation
Chakra is the foundation of shinobi techniques. Fusing two Chakra natures can create a Kekkei Genkai, while combining three can produce a Kekkei Tōta, such as Iwagakure's Dust Release. 47 130
Kekkei Genkai may be inherited through bloodlines or cultivated independently. 130 The Sharingan, Byakugan, Rinnegan, and Tenseigan are among the world's most consequential dōjutsu.
Sharingan
The Sharingan evolves through intense mental stimulation and sudden growth of Spiritual Energy, which causes the Uchiha's Chakra to mutate. 62 Its known stages confer increasingly specialized functions:
| Stage | Primary function |
|---|---|
| One-Tomoe | Insight and enhanced perception 158 |
| Two-Tomoe | Copying ability 158 |
| Three-Tomoe | Stronger Genjutsu capability 158 |
| Mangekyō | Unique dōjutsu and access to higher Rule-based power 158 424 |
| Eternal Eye | A more mature Rule-linked state that can directly absorb Natural Energy and removes the Mangekyō's bodily burden 254 |
| Rinnegan | Connects to a primary Rule, provides inherited knowledge and techniques, and approaches the level of Kekkei Mōra 236 488 |
Rules and Kekkei Mōra
Higher dōjutsu are connected to Rules, which function as both power sources and repositories of comprehension. A Mangekyō initially bears a Rule's aura, then can develop toward drawing on Rule Power directly and eventually achieving control over that Rule. 424
The Rinnegan grants its wielder access to extensive information on Kekkei Mōra. A Six-Tomoe Rinnegan may evolve further into a Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan, fully transforming into a Kekkei Mōra. 488
Immortal Cultivation System
Uchiha Kiyoshi develops an alternative cultivation path built around internal energy arts, body forging, Natural Energy, Primordial Qi, and Rule comprehension. Shadow Clones accelerate its research by returning their training memories to the original body. 84
The system is later disseminated across the Ninja World. The Five Great Shinobi Villages begin researching the Nourishing Origin Art, while Uchiha Kiyoshi advocates that practitioners develop cultivation methods suited to their individual circumstances. 428 508
History
| Period | Events |
|---|---|
| Warring States era | The Senju, Uchiha, Hyuga, Kaguya, and Uzumaki clans produce several Super Kage-level figures. Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara stand at the era's peak. 456 |
| Early village era | Shinobi villages replace clan warfare as the dominant political system, gradually concentrating power in village institutions and weakening clan autonomy. 84 |
| Before the Second Shinobi World War | Whirlpool Country is destroyed by several nations led by Kirigakure; only a small number of Uzumaki survive. 27 |
| Second Shinobi World War | Konoha, Sunagakure, and Amegakure suffer severe losses. Konoha wins, but gains little due to Hanzo's intervention and its own peaceful principles. 142 144 |
| Postwar peace | The five great nations avoid large-scale conflict because all have been weakened. Konoha adopts policies encouraging shinobi childbirth to rebuild its population. 142 144 |
| Rise of the Immortal Organization | The organization establishes the Immortal Academy, recruits across the world, infiltrates major powers, and spreads the Immortal Cultivation System. 322 347 428 |
| Fourth War crisis | Akatsuki gathers the Tailed Beasts, the Five Kage unite against it, and Uchiha Madara activates the Infinite Tsukuyomi across the Ninja World. 238 480 |
| Unification | The Immortal Organization subdues the Five Great Shinobi Villages, detains the daimyos of the Five Great Countries, and unifies the continent. Shinobi are redirected toward academy construction and production. 490 |
| New era | Uchiha Kiyoshi perfects the Reincarnation Rule, reorganizes the Pure Land and Ninja World, and establishes the Yin-Yang Realms as the basis of a new world order. 507 508 |
Major World-Scale Crises
- Infinite Tsukuyomi — Uchiha Madara places the entire Ninja World under genjutsu. The Immortal Organization's Enforcement Teams activate a world-spanning counter-genjutsu formation that can only slightly influence it. 480
- Kaguya's descent — Kaguya Ōtsutsuki descends after Black Zetsu betrays Madara, while Maka's actions cause the moon to crash into the Ninja World and fill the Sea of Death. 480
- Fire God's descent — The Fire God appears in the Ninja World, causing panic among the Five Great Shinobi Villages and the Three Great Sacred Lands before Uchiha Kiyoshi wounds and seals him. 418
- Ōtsutsuki arrival — Momoshiki and Kinshiki Ōtsutsuki enter through the Chaos Land, seeking to address the disappearance of earlier Ōtsutsuki harvesters. 504
