Against the lowest-tier zombies that had not even become Deadwalkers, Han Jiang could take down one with every two strikes.
What upset Han Jiang was that zombies gave no Evolution Points. Killing them was a complete waste.
But if he did not kill them, they would interfere with his movements, and the more troublesome ones would even call over their companions.
Fortunately, there were not many Deadwalkers in the direction Han Jiang had chosen. At most, he had faced three at once.
By the time the other Deadwalkers arrived, the ones before him were nearly all dead.
After a month of training at St. Freya, Han Jiang had improved tremendously in physical fitness, combat skill, and battle awareness.
Combined with the Hokushin Itto-ryu granted by the system, Han Jiang felt that his strength had already reached the passing standard for a B-rank Valkyrie.
Whenever there was a battle, the commotion was bound to be considerable.
Even though Han Jiang killed the Deadwalkers around him as quickly as he could, he still drew over the Scythe Queen from the plaza.
The Scythe Queen was somewhat taller than ordinary Deadwalkers, with more patterns on her weapon and brighter-colored clothing.
Accordingly, the Scythe Queen attacked faster and more frequently than other Deadwalkers.
"Clang!"
Han Jiang knocked aside the Scythe Queen's weapon with his Tang Dao, inwardly sighing at how much harder this thing was to deal with than an ordinary Deadwalker. It even knew how to exploit openings to attack.
"Not good!"
The Scythe Queen clasped her scythe in both hands as faint Honkai Energy circulated over her body. This was a sign that she was about to unleash a heavy strike.
Facing the Scythe Queen's heavy strike, Han Jiang immediately gave up on blocking and dodged aside.
"Pfft!"
The scythe struck a Deadwalker beside Han Jiang. A massive gash opened across its body, sending it flying backward.
Han Jiang glanced at the Deadwalker that had been flung away, glad that he had not chosen to take the attack head-on.
The Scythe Queen's heavy strike generally came in three or more consecutive attacks. She would leap into the air while holding her scythe, spin once, and begin cutting people down.
In such a situation, one either killed the Scythe Queen instantly or retreated far enough away.
If one's defense was strong enough or one was agile enough, they could use the opportunity to attack.
This was only the first wave of Deadwalkers today. Han Jiang still needed to earn more Evolution Points, so there was no need to recklessly fight a Scythe Queen over a point of pride.
The Scythe Queen's chain attack activated, and Han Jiang began dodging through the horde of Deadwalkers.
Whenever the Scythe Queen struck, one or several Deadwalkers would certainly be cut open. Some were even cleaved straight to death.
With the Scythe Queen's help, Han Jiang's work afterward would not be too difficult. What he needed to consider now was how to deal with this Scythe Queen safely.
After a string of heavy strikes, the Scythe Queen stopped and began gathering strength for the next round.
Han Jiang seized that opening and slashed at her.
"Clang!"
As expected, the Tang Dao was blocked by the shaft of the scythe. Then Han Jiang swept upward with the Tang Dao in his left hand.
Han Jiang did not expect to knock the Scythe Queen's weapon away in a single blow. He only wanted to force that enormous scythe upward by a small distance.
The Scythe Queen seemed to possess the slightest bit of intelligence. She tightened her grip on the scythe and slashed toward Han Jiang's body.
Han Jiang leaned backward. The Tang Dao sweeping upward did not lose any force, colliding with the scythe with a sharp ring.
The next moment, Han Jiang raised his leg and drove a hard kick into the Scythe Queen's stomach, knocking her away.
As the Scythe Queen staggered back, Han Jiang forcefully threw the Tang Dao in his right hand and rushed after it.
The thrown Tang Dao was deflected by the scythe. Han Jiang reached behind his back, drew Muramasa of Bizen, and viciously slashed it into the Scythe Queen's shoulder.
His other hand did not stop either, taking the chance to thrust its blade into the Scythe Queen's chest.
"Ding. Schicksal Soldier Guard killed. New item obtained: Schicksal Soldier Core. Evolution Points +10."
"Thud!"
The Imperial Guard's collapse sounded at the same time as the system chime. Han Jiang began cleaning up the remaining stragglers.
During the Imperial Guard's attacks earlier, it had helped knock quite a few Deadwalkers to the ground, saving Han Jiang a great deal of trouble.
Without the Imperial Guard, the remaining Deadwalkers were no threat. More than ten minutes later, Han Jiang had successfully dealt with every Deadwalker in the park.
"Student Han Jiang has cleared the park in Zone C. Personal score increased by twenty points. Total score: twenty points. Keep up the good work."
The students watching the mission area map saw a line of small text slowly scroll across the top of the map.
This was a mechanism Himeko had established from the start. Whenever someone cleared a group of Deadwalkers within an area, it would update in real time to encourage the other students to compete.
Han Jiang was currently sitting on the edge of a flower bed, browsing his status panel and calculating what he had gained.
"Thirty-two Evolution Points, one Schicksal Soldier Core. I'm not far from upgrading my Domain Gear." Han Jiang encouraged himself.
"But this thing was actually only an Imperial Guard among ordinary monsters? Not a Scythe Queen?" Han Jiang could not help sighing as he looked at the Deadwalker corpse on the ground.
But on second thought, the Scythe Queen barely counted as a high-level existence among this type of Deadwalker. If one could encounter them anywhere, why would they be called queens?
Han Jiang did not dwell on the Deadwalker's exact name. As long as it gave Evolution Points and a Schicksal Soldier Core, that was enough. Why care about anything else?
With no more Deadwalkers nearby to interfere, Han Jiang cut off the Imperial Guard's claws and placed Muramasa of Bizen on top of them. He wanted to try evolving the weapon.
An image of Muramasa of Bizen slowly rotated on the system screen. He tapped submit materials and consumed two Deadwalker Claws and ten Evolution Points.
The screen then began glowing with golden light. Accompanied by the sound of "Weapon Upgrade," the evolution was completed, and it became a two-star weapon.
The evolution sound effect was exactly the same as in the game, that same tune Han Jiang had never been able to understand.
However, the evolved weapon had no specific attack value and no enhancement button. Only its appearance had changed slightly.
Han Jiang picked up Muramasa of Bizen and examined it, swinging it a few times. It had become somewhat heavier, the chips along its edge had disappeared, and it seemed sharper than before.
A new line of small text appeared on Muramasa of Bizen's description page in the system panel.
"When using Hokushin Itto-ryu, power increases by 1%."
Han Jiang's Tang Dao was a Pulse Blade forged by St. Freya High School's Manufacturing Department. It was said to be more than sufficient for a B-rank Valkyrie.
Compared to the evolved Muramasa of Bizen, it was still inferior to the Tang Dao by a wide margin.
"Too tasteless to keep, too wasteful to throw away."
Han Jiang was a rather sentimental person. Muramasa of Bizen had helped him through his initial hardships, so from now on, it could only be kept as a collectible.
"Ding-dong."
Han Jiang idly swung Muramasa of Bizen when an unfamiliar chime suddenly rang in his mind. The Muramasa of Bizen in his hand had already vanished.
"Ding. Congratulations, you have unlocked the Illustration System."
"Illustration System?" Han Jiang blinked in confusion and opened the system panel. Sure enough, there was an icon representing the Weapon Library in the lower-left corner.
"You do not have permission to access this. Please evolve the system."
"???"
"I don't have permission? Then give me back Muramasa of Bizen! Why did you absorb it? I can't look at it, and I can't use it."
"You want me to evolve the system, but at least give me the conditions for evolving it! You haven't told me anything. How am I supposed to evolve you?"
The more Han Jiang spoke, the angrier he became. Other people's systems either had beginner guides or intelligence. His own system only unlocked things after triggering something related, and he still had to explore it bit by bit himself.
Still, it had at least produced something new. As for how to evolve it, he would take it one step at a time.
