The battle between Froakie and Lapras.
Even though Nemona and Iris were both promising Trainers, it could not be called a rookie squabble.
But limited by the Pokémon's own strength, the entire battle was still rather dull to watch.
Iris was still attending Twin Dragon Academy. It would be at least a few more months before she set out with Ash to travel through the Unova Region.
And her Lapras had only recently been a juvenile Pokémon. Though it had clearly grown quite a bit and was nearly as large as the Lapras Ash had caught in the Orange Archipelago, that did not change the fact that it had not undergone much training during this period.
It only knew a few basic moves, along with an inherited Egg Move whose accuracy was utterly unreliable.
On the other side, Nemona's Froakie had only hatched not long ago.
Today was its very first battle. Before this, it had not even received any proper training.
Just like in the Scarlet/Violet games.
Even though Nemona had legitimately passed the Champion Assessment and was basically a qualified Champion apart from the title, there was still only so much she could do.
"Pound," "Growl," "Bubble," "Quick Attack," as well as the inherited Egg Moves "Mind's Eye" and "Power-Up Punch."
Among beginner-level Pokémon, that move pool was already considered quite decent.
For those reasons, the way a current Champion-Level Trainer and a future Pokémon League Champion battled each other was remarkably straightforward.
In the end, Nemona proved more skillful, using Froakie's Power-Up Punch—which was super effective against the Ice Type Lapras, easy to control, and came with an additional effect—to take the victory.
The second battle was much more interesting.
Iris sent out the unshakable ace of her current team, the true land shark—Excadrill!
Nemona still sent
