Background / History

Luo Mu became a Trainer by coincidence rather than ambition. After rapidly growing strong enough to clear Paldea's Gym circuit, defeat the Elite Four, and overcome Top Champion Geeta, he received Champion-level certification at eighteen. Rather than accept Geeta's invitation to join the Paldea League, he announced his retirement and stated that his real dream was to operate a small shop or farm in peaceful countryside. He nevertheless agreed to help Geeta through personal requests when Paldea needed him. 1 83

He purchased land near Los Platos and began building a farm where he and his Pokémon could live together. Soon afterward, the Special Hint System appeared before him, declaring its purpose was to make him the strongest Champion of the era—an objective Luo Mu openly resented because it conflicted with his hoped-for retirement. 1 2

After discovering Tera Orb Raw Ore, Luo Mu accepted Geeta's offer to fund its crafting in exchange for working as a Battle Studies instructor at Naranja Academy. The arrangement preserved his farm life: he would teach only two battle classes per week and could commute from Los Platos on Dragonite. 3

His teaching role expanded over time. He became a trusted mentor for students including Nemona, Arven, Pippa, and Botan, later receiving a promotion that removed his fixed teaching hours and allowed him to focus on students he personally selected. He eventually introduced himself as the Dean of Battle Studies at Uva Academy. 263 267 508

Appearance

Luo Mu is a young man who favors practical, casual clothing over formal wear. At eighteen, he deliberately avoided suits because he associated them with becoming a corporate worker. 39

  • Often wears a black hooded sweatshirt, military-green work jacket, work pants, and casual sneakers. 39
  • Previously dressed in a casual T-shirt, capri pants, and sunglasses while settling into Los Platos. 1
  • Uses formal Champion attire only for major occasions: a tailored dress outfit with a black, gold-embroidered cloak. 481

Personality

Luo Mu is powerful but notably unpretentious. He dislikes the obligations, publicity, and repetitive labor associated with high-status Trainer work, preferring a self-directed life centered on farming, his Pokémon, and only the teaching or battles that genuinely interest him. His initial refusal of Geeta's League offer and repeated attempts to avoid being recruited into major public roles reflect this preference. 1 704

Despite his aversion to trouble, Luo Mu is dependable when people or Pokémon need help. He rescues Nemona and her friends from kidnappers, intervenes discreetly on Botan's behalf, agrees to investigate the Paldea Great Pit for Arven, and supports Ogerpon in finding closure over its former trainer. 12 236 248 450

As an instructor, Luo Mu is practical, observant, and sometimes unconventional. His classes emphasize survival skills and real combat needs, such as physical conditioning to outrun Wild Pokémon. He can be strict when students act badly, but he tailors guidance to their individual goals and limits. 73 81 763
