Just hearing that name, many people might not know what the move did or have the slightest impression of it.
But what if it were called something else?
—Petrification Technique.
This was the signature move of Psyduck, the duck god among Kasumi's Pokémon—the Mermaid of Cerulean City, the future Cerulean gym leader, and someone aiming to become a Water-type Pokémon Master—In the original Pokémon anime.
When Psyduck's headache reached its limit, its hidden potential would be unleashed, giving birth to the impressively performed Petrification Technique.
But that was merely an issue with the early anime translation, as well as the difference between anime and game portrayals.
In reality, "Body Slam" had only one effect in the games.
It hindered the opponent's actions, putting them into a Body Slam state. While the move remained in effect, the target that had been hit could not use the last move it had used before entering the Body Slam state.
Put simply, it was a single-move seal for a certain period of time.
Unlike Seal, a Psychic Type move, this was a highly targeted move that severely tested the timing of its use.
After Ceruledge seized the opening between Air Cutter attacks and used this move, Togekiss, having been hit, was naturally temporarily sealed from using that move.
—Air Cutter had been disabled.
That also meant that the troublesome Flinch secondary effect of Air Cutter had been forcibly suppressed by this stroke of genius.
